A trip to the kitchens seemed more tempting with every passing moment.
Mary Macdonald sighed once more and turned around in her bed for what would seem like the hundredth time that night. However, sleep seemed to have forsaken the female Gryffindor as she wasn't able to rest, no matter how hard she tried. At first, reading seemed to be the best option, but not very long after she had taken on said task, Lilly had started to mumble incoherent things about not being able to sleep with the light on and that she should shut it. And so, Mary had done what her friend wanted, thus having nothing to do, and becoming a very bored, very sleepless Mary.
And that was where her need for a trip to the kitchens had started. At first, it had been just a simple though. "A cup of hot chocolate would be so nice right now", as simple as that. Something her mother always did to her when she couldn't sleep. And the school's elves just happened to make the best hot chocolate she had ever tasted. With that, a simple thought slowly started to turn into a craving, an actual hunger for hot chocolate. But there was only one tiny problem with her idea. She'd have to go through all the castle and down to the kitchen at who knows what time it was in the morning. And that seemed a bit too much for just a cup of hot chocolate.
The female sighed and turned again in her bed, glancing around to the sleeping forms of her roommates, hoping that one of them would show signs of not being able to sleep as well. There was no use, she was all alone in her insomnia. Sighing yet again, Mary resigned to staring at the ceiling for the time being, as she debated whether or not she should just get up and get the bloody hot chocolate. But she didn't want to do it alone, and she wasn't about waking one of her friends just because she wanted food. She'd probably get a pillow to the face as soon as she asked the question. Damn it, why couldn't she sleep?
Groaning, the female tossed the covers aside, swinging her legs out of the bed and getting up. No, she hadn't decided to give into the craving, but she was getting out of the room. After putting on a warm sweater, the female grabbed the nearest blanket and the book she had been reading earlier on and made her way out of the room and into the common room, where the fireplace was still lit, the flames casting a golden shade over the silent room. She smiled, it was odd finding the common room this silent, or this empty, but she rather enjoyed it.
Mary made her way towards the couches near the fireplace, so she could get both some light and warmth, and sat down on the floor, her back leaning against the couch and covered her legs with the blanket she had brought from her room. After finding a comfortable position, the female grabbed her book and flipped it open in the page she had been previously reading. Now this was far better than being stuck in her bed staring at the ceiling. She should have thought about it earlier.

--------------------------------I think I'm falling in love with you My heart is beating faster than I want it to--------------------------------- There was little to no noise in the sixth year girls’ dormitories. A red haired girl was staring at the wall. Her blanket wrapped around her tightly as she tightly closed her eyes. Sleep, she told herself sternly. As much as she wanted to, Lily Evans could not get to sleep whatsoever. She withheld a slight groan so not to wake up her dorm mates. A lot was on her mind at the moment. Could it not wait until the morning? She thought to herself grouchily. Her mind was a funny thing. It would wait until she was sleeping before thoughts started to flow. The chief main ones were Severus and James. She couldn’t help it. She groaned out loud as she stood up a bit. It was only to punch her pillow a couple of times before laying her head back down on it. Anything but that. Anyone but those two, Lily pleaded with her mind. It continued to ignore her and flashes of memories started going through it. Her first meeting with James and Sirius on the train to Hogwarts. James insulting Snape because the latter hoped she would be in Slytherin. The Great Hall and her sorting ceremony. She had been sorted into Gryffindor along with those idiot boys. Meanwhile her only best friend was sorted into Slytherin. It would take until fifth year for those two to be pulled apart.
She had called off their friendship because he had lashed out at her. He called her a Mudblood while she was trying to help him. Stupid annoying bully Potter, Lily thought with a slight growl. Now it was harder for her to say which one she hated the most. She always had a soft spot for Severus. It was getting to the point where she was wondering if she had any feelings for the other sixteen year old. It was bad enough that she was starting to develop feelings for James. Lily had been doing her best to hide them whenever he was around doing something stupid. She knew that, sooner or later, she would have to tell him. The main question was, how she would be able to tell him. Lily certainly can’t go straight up and tell him that she was falling in love with him. The stupid boy would probably jump in the air and gloat to his friends or anyone who would listen for that matter. Oh the complications, she thought. Her ears perked forward and she tensed, thinking that she heard footsteps. Lily laid perfectly still, pretending to be asleep. She heard a groan and someone moving around before the door closed with a gentle shut. Once she was sure that the girl wouldn’t be coming back, Lily slowly sat up and glanced around.
Wand, she thought to herself, gripping the side table. Where’s my wand? Her fingers brushed against the wood and she smiled to herself. The red haired girl raised her wand and whispered, “Lumos,” The tip lightened up as she slowly climbed out of bed. Quietly she got dressed and pulled on her nighttime robes. It was a dark pink. If Potter sees me in this he’ll have a fit, Lily thought and couldn’t help but to smirk. She walked out of the dorms and closed the door, careful not to wake up any of her mates. Her wand raised she slowly walked down the stairs and into the common room. It was quiet, pleasantly so. Potter and his friends must have gone to bed early tonight, she mused as she looked around. There was someone sitting in one of the couches by the fireplace. Lily frowned as she walked towards them. She grinned as her eyes sparkled. “Mare?” Lily took the seat that was next to her friend. “Couldn’t sleep either?” [/blockquote] Tagged!? Mary! Words!?634 Notes!? GAH. Like old times <3333 Credit!? Not being able to sleep was a rare thing for Mary. Sure, she was mostly a nocturnal person – getting her to sleep was a battle and waking her up was a war ever since she was little – but when it was time to sleep, it was time to sleep, and she could pretty much sleep through a hurricane. So, on the rare occasions when she actually couldn’t sleep, the female found herself clueless as to what she should do. A book tended to be the most common of choices because even though she loved to read, her eyes would eventually get tired and she would fall asleep, but there had been some times when she had opted to draw something – again, something that was bound to make her eyes grow tired and force her to sleep. She rarely decided to explore on her own, unless she was extremely bored. There wasn’t a particular reason for this; she simply preferred to do so.
It still came as a surprise to her how she had managed to befriend so many people, especially during her first year. Back when she had boarded the train, she’d been too scared to even talk, quite unlike most of her peers, who chatted nonstop about their hopes and expectations. Well, technically, Mary would have never been able to chat nonstop, but had she been excited instead of terrified, she would have been a talkative person. After all, an excited Mary is a chatty Mary. Luckily, the welcoming of the Gryffindor table had been quite warm, successfully untying Mary’s tongue and getting her to chat a bit with her fellow housemates. Still not enough to match some of her peers, but certainly a lot more than saying absolutely nothing. The first person she had warmed up to had been Lily Evans, and to this day, Lily was probably her most treasured friend. Lily was just a likable person.
She wasn't expecting for anyone else to be up at this hour. Well, she didn't even know what time it was, but the overview of her own room was a pretty good overview for the rest of the tower. Though she had been a bit disappointed none of her friends had been awake to accompany her on a trip to the kitchens - well, she was disappointed that some of them weren't awake, cause she was certain Lily wouldn't want to be a part of a breaking of curfew - but she had soon gotten over it as she found comfort in her blanket, her book and the fireplace. Quite possibly, she would carry on her reading till morning and then face an excruciating day of classes. Or she would fall asleep in the middle of the common room and wake up the next morning with a sore neck and having to face an excruciating day of classes... Maybe she could just sleep in. No, Lily would never allow that, she would drag her to classes. There was just no way to avoid it, she'd have classes in the morning and...
Someone's voice reached her, interrupting her current line of though and nearly making her jump out of her skin. She turned towards the sound, only to find the person she had been thinking about. The same person who had complained about her being awake a couple of hours ago. Mary smiled at her friend, shrugging a bit. "I got bored of being in the room without sleeping. And I'm kinda hungry too. How 'bout you?"

He was at the end of a long dark cave, there was no light and yet.... he could see. Sort of. Most of it was all shadows and darkened areas, things flitted in and out of his line of vision and each time they did, they got worse. At first, the shadowed thing was nothing but a bat perhaps and then a huge bird and then it became a cat, a dog, a wolf and finally, the wolf stood and took on the shape and form of a man.
The man's eyes began to glow brighter and brighter until they were nearly blinding. He drew his wand and suddenly, a woman was beside him. His mother. Then, one his right side, a man joined him. His father. "No!" Luke gasped and then, his mother was killed and then his father and as the man turned his sights on Luke, a little boy ran into the way, laughing and playing. He was struck by the spell and his body hit the floor.
Luke Denmark sat bolt upright in his bed in the Gryffindor boy's dormitory. He was breathing hard, as if he'd been running for miles, his long blond hair clung to his face, which was drenched in cold sweat. He looked around frantically for a few moments and then sighed "A dream." He muttered, "It was just a dream." he ran his hand over his face in the darkness, feeling the long thin scar that ran down from under his left eye to his chin. "A horrible dream." He added and then, got up from the bed and headed into the bathroom.
There, he threw cold water onto his face and studied his reflection for a little bit. The dream had been so.....so real! And frightening. His parents he knew, had already been killed but the little boy had been his foster brother and this wasn't the first time he'd had a nightmare about the boy getting killed. Luke left the bathroom, and went to go back to sleep, but as he studied his bed he decided there was no way he'd be able to sleep. And so, with a sigh he left his dormitory, leaving his flute necklace on the nightstand. He only ever took it off at bedtime, when he knew it'd be safe.
He ventured down into the Common Room, deciding that maybe he'd go get something to eat in the kitchen. To his surprise people were in the Common Room when he walked down. Lily Evans and Mary Macdonald. "Hey Lily. Mary." He greeted, "Can't sleep?" he asked, hoping that he'd shaken off the effects of his nightmare, but he was still shaking slightly as he sat down on an armchair. He caught the last of Mary's sentence and smiled "I'm pretty hungry as well. Mind if I join you two?" He asked, hoping they'd let him. He didn't want to admit that he didn't really want to be alone, even if it wasn't dark in the Common Room.

--------------------------------I think I'm falling in love with you My heart is beating faster than I want it to--------------------------------- Lily made herself comfortable in the armchair and looked over to Mary. She made a slight face. “I can’t get to sleep. Every time I close my eyes I see…two different people..” She made sure to mumble the last bit under her breath. A small sigh escaped from her lips as she propped her elbow on the arm of the chair and laid her chin on her hand. “I have a lot on my mind. It’s frustrating to the point where I want to scream.” The red haired girl eyed the other. Mary was probably her best best friend in the whole house of Gryffindor except for a couple of people. Surely she would understand the conflicting feelings that she was having right now. “Actually I need to talk to you about something.” Lily took a deep breath but nearly jumped at the sound of a third voice. Having James on her mind, she raised her head and lowered her arm, gripping the wand and quickly turned around. “Luke you nearly scared me to death! I thought you were someone else.” She lowered her wand and eventually stuffed it in the pockets of her robes. Her heart was still beating as she tried to calm herself down. Luckily the two of them had commented on the fact that they were hungry at this hour. She laughed. “Nighttime munchies you two? Sure. You know you’re more than welcome to Luke.”
She raised her head to look up at the other boy, remembering the first time that they had crossed paths. And been pretty much friends ever since then. She ran a hand through her hair as she pulled her night time robe tightly against her. The corners of her lips twitched upwards into a small smile as she thought of something. “We can probably raid the kitchens for snacks.” Lily commented with a mild tone. “Now that you two mention it I am getting a bit hungry.” Now, what was this? Lily Evans was agreeing to walk out of the common room in the middle of the night? Surely that was clearly the talk of one being sleep deprived. “How is everything going with you two?” Pretty much a lame attempt at small talk but it was something at least. A comfortable silence fell between the three of them as she turned her head to stare at the crackling fire. It was a comfortable sensation, being around two of the people that she had considered to be best friends. Lily fell silent as her eyes held that faraway look. Her mind was running wild tonight. It wasn’t a good thing at all. All she wanted to do was to get some rest. Wasn’t that asking enough? She let out a frustrated sigh as she ran a hand through her hair. She was being impossible and she knew it.
“It’s going to be one of those nights I can tell,” Lily broke the comfortable silence. “I have a lot on my mind like I told Mary and I cannot get it to quiet down. No matter what I do.” She smiled softly. Lily hated to complain to people but it helped with the many frustrations that she was having the past few weeks. Lily was the type of person to normally let things bottle up inside of her while trying to put up a front. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. She pulled her robe close to her as she glanced up at her two friends. [/blockquote] Tagged!? Mare and Luke and pretty much every Gryffindor Words!? 585 Notes!?
