when minerva was a little girl she owned a little kitten named eliza. eliza was a grey and white bi-colored tabby cat that she loved more than anything in the world, therefore, she was not surprised when the cat took the form of her patronus. whenever she casts the spell she thinks of the day she got a position at hogwarts teaching under one of her dearest friends.

the dark lord. the only real reason he is her boggart is the fact he does not have the capability to feel anything. people like voldemort are unafraid to kill hundreds of people, and have complete disregard for the basic human rights of mankind. anyone who shows snippets of being sadistic like that frightens her to no end.

the day she had to tell dougal she couldn't marry him. it hurt her so much to lie to him and come up with a totally unreal reason, but she couldn't allow marriage to interfere with her dreams of becoming a successful witch. even though she's completely certain she made the right decisions, she constantly wishes she had picked him over the wand.

when minerva attended hogwarts as a student she was considered one of the most talented students in her year. many tell her that she's lucky to have been gifted with such intelligence. whenever someone tells her that minerva gets slightly annoyed because all she did was work hard and study. all throughout her life min's parents pushed her to do the best she could do and encouraged excellence; minerva met their expectations and formed a great work ethic. most of her adult life has been devoted to her job and teaching the students of hogwarts everything she can about transfiguration. at times this intense determination creates problems in her personal life, and after the thing with dougal she's managed to cut herself off romantically.
one of the most important things in her life is her strong christian faith. she grew up with a father who was a minister. despite the fact she has a strong belief minerva does not stuff it down other people's throats. the core teachings of the bible deal with mercy and forgiveness, and not allowing people to have their own opinion on matters does not really go along with a lot of what the christian faith believes. during the summer vacation she attends her father's church, and is a very devoted member. along with her faith stems her crusade against human rights violations. she believes that every human has infinite worth, and she can't stand the discrimination against half-bloods and muggle borns.
docile and demure are words that are not in min's vocabulary. she is fiercely loyal, and would be willing to die for people who are close to her. the bravery she demonstrates in her daily life proves that she is not willing to sit and watch injustice happen. that does not mean she is stupid. courage doesn't always mean fighting, and one of her favorite quotes is “courage is not a man with a gun in his hand. it's knowing you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. you rarely win, but sometimes you do.”

minerva cornelia mcgonagall was the first born child to isobel ross and her husband robert mcgonagall. her parent's love affair was scrutinized, and looked down upon by both parents. in the end that did not matter to the couple causing them to elope. after a couple months of marriage isobel found herself pregnant with her first child, and on october fourth she gave birth to minerva cornelia mcgonagall. during minerva's early years isobel had to make sure to keep her daughter's magic under control because her husband did not know about it, and the muggle community that she lived in couldn't know about it. throughout this time robert mistook this behavior for isobel being depressed. eventually she had to tell him about the magic. the two still loved each other, but they knew their marriage wouldn't be the same. minerva picked up on this.
at the age of six her parents arranged for min to take piano lessons from the woman who played for the church (charlotte). every sunday afternoon the family would have charlotte over for lunch and after their meal charlotte would give little minerva a piano lesson. for a while min dreaded the lessons, but over time she learned to love playing and making music. after charlotte's eventual death, minerva took over playing piano and organ every sunday for the church.
on june twelfth malcolm mcgonagall was born and a couple years after that robert jr. was born. minerva only knew being an older sister for a couple years before she received her acceptance letter and attended hogwarts. the sorting hat took quite a bit of time pondering whether to place her in ravenclaw or gryffindor (eventually picking the latter). she proved to be a very talented witch especially in transfiguration. throughout her hogwarts years she devoted her time to studying and playing quidditch. her mother played and was captain of the gryffindor team so the day minerva was recruited to play made her mother exceedingly proud. in her fifth year she became gryffindor prefect. minerva loved being able to grow and learn new things; this determination as well as talent made her the most promising witch of her class.
during the summer before her seventh year minerva met dougal mcgregor, a son of a local muggle farmer. the two of them became best friends and eventually lovers. their relationship worried isobel, but she kept her mouth shut to avoid a conflict with her daughter. when minerva returned to hogwarts she was the appointed head girl and a valuable asset to the quidditch team. towards the end of her seventh year dumbledore began giving her private transfiguration lessons because she was clearly above the current curriculum. he taught her how to transform into an animagus. unfortunately she was terribly hurt during the last quidditch match of the year (against slytherin), and was in the hospital wing with a concussion and a couple broken ribs.
after graduation she returned home to spend a summer with her parents and siblings. upon arrival she rekindled her romance with dougal, and on august twenty third he proposed to her on a ploughed field. minerva accepted his proposal with open arms and the two shared a beautiful few months as an engaged couple. there was, however, one thing that bothered her in the back of her mind and that was the fact he was a muggle and she a witch. having watched her mother and father's relationship strain because of the magic she had to tell him she couldn't marry him. a couple days before she broke it off the ministry offered her a position under the department of magical law enforcement. dougal was heartbroken as was minerva, but he insisted she keep the ring. it was a beautiful one carat tiffany diamond ring, and she still wears it to this day.
when she left for london she centered herself on work, but eventually found the ministry to be a bad match for her. at the age of twenty one she applied for a teaching position at hogwarts and was granted one. she has been working at hogwarts for many years as one of the most respected teachers.[/size][/ul]
