At eleven years old, Leroy was showing the traits that would make him the ‘perfect pureblood son’ that his father was hoping for ever since he was born. It wasn’t much of a surprise, as Leroy was already detached from most of his emotions. The fact of the matter was, it was beginning to get worrisome. Leroy Selwyn was only eleven years old; just entering Hogwarts, and he had the makings of an old pureblood Lord. Detached and cruel. He was pretty sure it worried his mother, but his father couldn’t be any more happier about it. Especially after he owled them about getting into Slytherin. The house only proper purebloods got into, according to his father. Still, at eleven, Leroy was beginning to detest his father. He barely had the childhood the other students spoke about. With presents and cookies and hugs everyday from their mothers, at least. Some he knew had an emotionless, tough childhood like his. Where they were bred to be the ‘perfect’ son for their fathers. The first year Slytherin was beginning to feel the beginnings of hate. And for some reason or another, he didn’t care if it was his own father he didn’t like.
The train ride back to London was somewhat exciting, however, he couldn’t bring himself to do anything but blink and stare out the window. Some of the other kids were trying to get him to talk, but he had nothing to say. Truly, he didn’t. He wasn’t much of a talker anyways, anyone who even tried to talk to him figured that out. Bloody hell, even the teachers knew he didn’t talk much! At first, some of the Slytherins thought he was a mute, but after a class in charms, where Leroy almost easily learned the spell, proved them wrong. He was just an impossibly quiet guy. The cheerful old witch that ran the trolley came buy, asking if anyone wanted to buy any sweets. He glanced at the trolley, noting that she had almost all the different kinds of wizarding sweets on there. Deciding he’d get some for his sisters as a sort of ‘early Christmas sweet’ Leroy bought three chocolate frogs - one for each, so they could eat it together - two cauldron cakes - as he really didn’t have a big sweet tooth - and a box of every flavor beans. He considered a few other snacks, but decided against it. Besides, these snacks were always fun to eat. He figured his sisters would enjoy them.
With it being the first time going home from Hogwarts - for the Christmas vacation - Leroy didn’t know when they were supposed to arrive. Neither did the others in his compartment. They were all first year Slytherins as well. So, when they did arrive, none were ready for it. Leroy was a bit upset, having little time to get his things before going out to find his family. Hopefully they weren’t waiting long; father would have had his head. ‘It was not well for a pureblood to make others wait, especially if those others were superior’ he’d say. Leroy knew it, because he knew his father. Even at eleven, the Selwyn heir knew what to expect from the eldest Selwyn. However, he managed to grab his things and make his way out of the train. However, as he was walking out, he noted a rather petite witch having trouble with her trunk. With a sigh, the Selwyn placed his things to the side, as to not get in anyone’s way and went over to aid said witch. Tapping her on the shoulder, she looked a bit surprised. "Excuse me, but I was wondering if you needed help with that?" he asked softly. At her nod, Leroy lifted the trunk with little difficulty, and placed it on the ground beside her. "You’re welcome." he replied quietly in response to her bashful ‘thank you’.
Turning and grabbing his things, Leroy made his way through the crowd. Knowing his father, he’d wait at the end of the crowd, as to avoid all the trouble of making their way through it. And, as he figured, he was right. Feeling in his pockets for a moment, Leroy just wanted to make sure he had the chocolate frogs still in there. His mother looked proud and had a smile on her face at having her son back for the holidays. "Hullo mother. Father." he nodded towards his parents, his father only giving him a rough pat on the shoulder, while his mother laid a gentle hand on his head. "My baby boy is growing up! Helping out that young lady with her trunk, I’m so proud of you!" she gushed before going on about him being a wonderful husband and any girl would be lucky to have him and all that embarrassing stuff that moms talk about. "Mother…" he quietly argued, wanting her to stop her fussing. He hadn’t even been gone the entire year yet.
Finally, turning towards his sisters, Leroy smiled - a real, true, albeit small smile - at them. Reaching into his pockets he pulled out a chocolate frog for each of them. "Here you go. I got them from the trolley on the train, thought it’d be a nice before the hols treat." he explained with a shrug, handing them their chocolate before taking each into a very brief hug, each ending with a clearing of the throat by their father. With a sigh, Leroy stood by his younger sisters, Olivia and Juliana, as their father led them away from the train station. Oh well, at least he was home again, and with his sisters. He grinned slightly at Olivia before following their father, making sure his sisters were by his side and hadn’t wandered off or anything.

APPROACHING THE INEVITABLE EDGE olivia had counted down the days. it was almost christmas, but before christmas marked the day that leroy would be coming home. it had only been a few months since he had went off to hogwarts, and she knew that she would be joining him there the next year, but their trio of siblings had been broken up and olivia had always looked for her brother's protection and approval. not having him at home was weird for her, and a bit scary. not that she couldn't handle herself and look out for juliette, but it wasn't the same without leroy there. he was her big brother, her protector, and the one of the only people she felt she could be herself around.
when leroy had turned eleven and his letter had come from hogwarts, olivia couldn't have been happier for her brother. but even as a young child, she could tell the demands that their father was beginning to place on leroy and she could sense leroy's disapproval and distaste beginning to grow. but she also knew he tried to hide it from her and juliette, but olivia knew. she knew leroy too well. and when the day she had circled on her calendar came, she couldn't have been more excited. leroy was coming home today, and the whole family would go to the station to pick him up and bring him home. then they would begin their two weeks until christmas. this involved mundane family things such as decorating the tree and baking cookies - things their mother tried to do to maintain some sort of maternal feeling for her children. olivia knew that it was the barest of things to do, but she would enjoy them anyways, knowing it was time with her siblings and even time with her parents whom she loved.
getting dressed and ready, olivia could barely been kept up to as she rushed into the platform in which the hogwarts express was coming into. she couldn't believe it had been so long since she had seen leroy. juliette was with them, excited like olivia, and periodically olivia would turn to juliette and share a large grin with her sister. this was it. finally leroy would be with them for a few short weeks before going back to hogwarts. then next year she wouldn't have to be without her big brother as she would join him at hogwarts. she would get sorted into slytherin just like her big brother and rest of the family and everything would be perfect. she could spend all the time she wanted with leroy. and when juliette came, she would join them too and the selwyn siblings would be stuck together.
the train whistled and students began to slowly pour off of the train. olivia tried to peer through the crowds of people, but her mother gently held her back, making sure she wouldn't get lost in them as well. olivia didn't have that much patience, but she knew not to go against her mother's wishes at this point. she didn't really like the idea of getting lost either. finally, she saw leroy. olivia's face lit up and turned into a smile as he walked to them, emitting a brooding type of look. olivia couldn't help giggle as he always seemed to look angry or sad, but really that was just leroy. he reached the group of them, and exchanged greeting with their parents. it took so much for olivia not to pounce on him and hug him right there and then.
finally he turned to olivia and juliette, smiling towards them and holding out chocolate frogs. he had gotten them on the train and olivia grinned widely, taking the chocolate frog from leory and throwing her arms around her brother in a tight hug. "thank you leroy!" she exclaimed happy that he had thought of her. "i'm so glad you're home. i missed you so much," she spoke, releasing him and continuing to smile at him. she couldn't help it. he was finally home and the time that he had been gone had gone by too slowly for her liking. she was going to make the most out of all the time that she had with him now that he was home.
her father cleared his throat and the brief moments of happiness being shared were brought to an end. olivia gazed up at her father for a moment before they began to head off. leroy stayed close to her and juliana. olivia skipped along, determined that nothing would break her content mood, and leaned over to speak to leroy. "so what was it like? how big is the castle really? are the teachers nice?" she couldn't help the questions, she was curious and wanted to know about leroy's world now that it was away from her.

He couldn’t help but grin slightly at his younger sister as she thanked him with a hug. He could already feel his father’s disapproving glare, but he couldn’t bring himself to care. After months away from this hug, he wasn’t about to not let her hug him because his father thought it was a weakness to show emotion, even to his little sisters. "No problem Olivia. I missed you both too, you know." he chuckled slightly. After the brief hugs – thanks to his father – were given out and their father turned to walk away, Leroy bent his head down as if to whisper something to his sisters. "I’ve more treats as well for you two, but we’re going to have to wait." he whispered loud enough for his sisters to hear, but not loud enough for his father to bother to turn around. Leroy would have glared at the back of his father’s head had his sisters not been next to him. He really didn’t understand what was wrong with giving a hello hug to his sisters that grew up with him, after the first few months he spent away from them. Was that so weak? To love one’s siblings so?
Apparently to Father, yes it was.
The Selwyn heir felt a grin come onto his lips as he heard Olivia’s questions. He didn’t answer her right away, having been too deep in thought to. His thoughts weren’t all that bad, mainly about his first impression of the castle and the sorting. He remembered it all as if it had happened just yesterday instead of the months ago. "Well…" he began, wondering how to explain it. It wasn’t as if he didn’t know what to explain, but rather how to explain it. It was one of those ‘you must experience it’ moments. He decided to be rather vague about it. Besides, he was pretty sure Olivia’s impression and his impression would be different. "The castle is…well, enormous!" he began making a wide and tall motion with his arms, as if to emphasize his point. Normally, he wouldn’t have done such dramatics, but he liked doing so with his sisters. They tended to laugh when he acted so silly anyways, and he missed their laughs. He missed them, and he was glad to know they missed him as well.
"It’s much bigger and taller than anything we’ve seen before." he continued on, remembering how in awe he was of the Hogwarts castle when he first arrived with the other first years. Granted, he didn’t gape or gasp like the others, but he was still in awe. Just silently. "Some of the kids were so awed of the castle that they looked like fish out of water." he stated, mimicking their open-mouthed expressions for the sole purpose of hearing his sister’s laugh. Such a face was not one Leroy would normally make and he felt absolutely silly making it. However, he chose switch back to his neutral, almost laid back expression just a few seconds later. Silly really wasn’t his type of thing. "The professors are nice, especially Slughorn. He likes Slytherins the best, of course." Leroy almost boasted. Professor Slughorn may have been somewhat of a gullible idiot at times, but the eleven year old could already tell he favored his Slytherins.
Turning his attention back to his sisters, Leroy wondered how their year was going so far, with it just being the two of them for the first time in a while. "So, how about you girls? How are things at home now that I’m at Hogwarts?" he asked, not caring if he changed the subject or not. There wasn’t much else to talk about, after all. He wasn’t exactly the most talkative or friendliest guy around, so he couldn’t talk much about his fellow classmates or the older students. Most of them wouldn’t even associate with a first year, unless it was their sibling or something. And from what he saw, even then, first years were left to their own devices while the older students mingled with each other. Not that he was complaining, a lot less people to speak to.
"What do you two want to do first, when we get home?" he asked nonchalantly, his eyes flickering to their father briefly before returning their attention to Juliana, then Olivia. He hoped his father wouldn’t want to speak with him once they got back. He’d rather spend most of his vacation with his sisters and not listening to his father lecture him about showing affection to Olivia and Juliana.
