So Miss MacMillan, please state your name and any nicknames so we have that on record.
Uhm, my name is Daphne. Daphne Macmillan; Daphne Ewan Macmillan. As far as nicknames, I suppose my family has called me Daph on occasion, but I really prefer Daphne.
Mhm, and you are currently a Hogwarts Student?
Yes. It’s my fifth year.
Right, right. And, a Slytherin correct?
No, a Hufflepuff actually.
A pureblood Hufflepuff? Well that’s a bit unusual.
Yes, and a PROUD one at that. I wouldn’t say it’s unusual, and the sorting hat is never wrong after all.
APPEARANCE
Yes, well, moving on. We’re going to need a brief physical description… for the record. So please state your height and weight.
This seems like a lot of information for a simple survey.
We like to be thorough. Now, you’re height?
5’2.. in a half.
Weight?
Around 7 stones(100lbs).
Hair color?
Red. Really, really red. It’s fairly long too. Recently it’s just grazed my bum. Was that too much information? … Sorry.. It’s become somewhat of my crowning glory lately.
Mmm, yes, and eye color?
Which eye?
….. Both eyes?
Well, one is green and the other is blue. I suppose an emerald green and baby blue if you want me to give specifics.
Interesting. Any notable features?
Well, I have a lot of freckles. And, unlike most redheads I’m fairly tanned. I suppose it’s from spending many years of my youth playing outside with my brother. Oh, and for some reason I’ve always smelled like a forest. My mother can’t seem to figure out why. She says I was cursed as a child, but I explained to her that no one would put any effort into a curse that makes someone smell like Christmas trees and flowers year round.
PERSONALITY
Right. Now, moving on, give us a brief list of some of your favorite things.
Oh just a brief list? But, there are so many things I just adore. Dragons, for one thing, are my absolute favorite things in the whole world. I also love being outdoors, and drawing. Spending time with my Family is up there too. Playing Quidditch, any sort of Animal, and Butterbeer, which I like to spike with Whiskey, but don’t tell anyone that. I suppose my older siblings are up there too along with Care of Magical Creatures, reading, long pointless conversations, the color yellow, sunshine, grass, and anything sparkly really. Oh, and how could I forget my half-Kneazle Mr.Pickles. He such a darling thing….
Well thank you for that –breif- list. Now, what about your least favorite things?
Well for starters, Dragon Hunters, bad weather, orange vegetables, Transfiguration class. I also despise long periods of time stuck inside, ever being told no and basically anyone my older brother dates.
What is your boggart?
Well, I’ve never really seen one. But, if I were to guess, I’d have to say a werewolf. Those things scare me to bits.
And, we’re you to encounter a dementor, what would you see?
A dementor? Well, I surely hope I never have to deal with one of those nasty little buggers. But, should I ever come across one I guess I’d go back to a memory when I was only eight. My father took me to New Zealand, he had to travel there on business, and knowing my love of Dragons we went to see a natural Antipodean Opaleye habitat. It was definitely that trip that made them my favorite breed of Dragon. Well anyway, on our last night we went to see them one last time. What we got was the most devastating and horrifying sight I’ve ever witnessed. The dragon was slaughtered. Just laying there.. lifeless.. and.. cut to pieces. It was horrifying. I don’t know if they ever caught the hunters responsible. I’m not sure if I want to know.. for fear of what I would want to do to them.
Now, what about your Amortentia?
Oh.. mmmm.. New Zealand grass after a fresh rain, Dragon scales, an almost undetectable hint of lavender and sunflowers. Oh, and lemons. Most definitely lemons.
Interesting. Well, continuing on.. What would you say are your strengths?
Well, I’m very caring, compassionate, and kind. I’m also determined, and intelligent, I’d say. My bloodline doesn’t hurt either. I’ve found most people respect you when you come from a long line of pureblood’s even if we do have some family members which have strayed from what was expected of them.
Weaknesses?
I’m naïve, sheltered by the protection of a large family and an older brother. I ramble when I’m nervous and I’m dreadful when it comes to Transfiguration class. I guess I can be rather stuck up sometimes when I let my blood purity get to my head, but I try not to let that happen.
What would you say is a life time goal of yours? Any big goals/ambitions?
I’d love to study Magizoology successfully and eventually specialize in Dragons. Hopefully this will eventually lead me to a successful career as a Dragonologist in New Zealand where I will get to work with the local Antipodean Opaleye population.
So could you expand a little on your personality for us?
Well, to begin with I’m a very a happy-go-lucky person. Some people have described it as almost magnetic. You’ll rarely find me without a smile or giggling frantically about one thing or another. While most people I encounter tend to find this quality pleasant, others have found it to be especially bothersome. Those on the more serious side have been known to find me both childish and irritating.
While I am somewhat childish, it does not necessarily stem from immaturity but a playful attitude. I just adore having a good time and focus my energy more on embracing joyfulness. I tend to not get caught up in the in’s and out’s of the world. As the youngest child in my family, I’ve been largely sheltered from the evil’s that plague the wizarding community and thus tends to take life less seriously than the other Hogwarts students around me. This sheltered lifestyle has, unfortunately, made me overly trusting and I often overlook the dangers in forming relationships with certain people, which has been known to set me up for disaster.
I also like to think I’m very kind. I am not one to be short tempered or cruel. I’m a firm believer of treating other’s with respect and kindness. I guess you could say I am a very gentile soul. I just have an undying love for those I place close to my heart. I value the relationship I have with my family and friends above all other things in the world. I like to believe that I am the quintessential Hufflepuff.
There isn’t much that really irritates me in regards to other people. If someone doesn’t rub me right, I usually just avoid them. When it comes to confrontation, I can be quite the little baby (youngest child syndrome I suppose). I’ve always resided to letting my older brother fight my battles for me. When confronted I have been known to shut down or even embarrass myself with a cry.
I have to say I am also a hidden nerd. On my down time, I obsessively study Dragons. I have sketch books filled with drawings upon drawings of various breeds of Dragons. No one is too sure of where or when this obsession developed but it has been there for as long as I can remember. You can often find me lying around outside in the sun or lounging in the library sketching. I often find myself resisting the urge to ramble on about the creatures when asked. I also adore Quidditch and you can always find me on the sidelines acting much like some awkward muggle cheerleader.
HISTORY
Very fine, yes, now where are you from Miss Macmillan? You know, your Hometown?
I was born and raised in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. My family has lived in Scotland for as long as anyone can remember.
And, your parents names are?
Duncan and Lesley Macmillan.
What is their occupation?
Well, my mother doesn’t do much of anything. She doesn’t have to really. My father does one thing or another in the ministry, I don’t really know nor do I care too.
You were talking about a brother, any other siblings?
No, it’s just my older brother and me. His name is Alistair, he's a 7th year Ravenclaw. I adore him naturally. He’s the best big brother anyone could hope for.
Alright, well our last question just seems to be a brief general history.
Well, let’s see… I was born on the 3rd of November to a wealthy pureblood family. I never really understood the importance of that or the paramount effect it would have on my life until I became a student here at Hogwarts.
My childhood was easy. I spent my life obsessive over Dragons and daydreaming about flying alongside them. I loved spending my days outside rolling around in the Scotland grass and soaking up as much sunshine as I could. My nights I much preferred curling up in one of the large armchairs my family had in our living room, listening to my father tell stories of our family heritage. My brother and I would fight over who got to sit closest to my father; it was magical really.
When I was nine, my brother went off to Hogwarts. I must admit it was an awful time for me. I missed him desperately and couldn’t wait until I’d be off at school. I’ll never forget when I got my letter. I literally danced around the house while my mother sobbed hysterically realizing that her last child was, in a way, leaving the nest.
Hogwarts is everything I expected and more. I will admit I was a little upset when I didn’t end up in the same house as my brother, but I’ve never been happier that things worked out the way they did. I love my house, indefinitely. It was here, however, that I discovered the true meaning of what it meant to be a ‘pureblood.’ I had heard the term my whole life and knew that it was what I was but never understood what it meant. People RESPECT you. They look at you differently. I’m still not sure where I stand in the whole ‘pure’ or ‘un-pure’ conflict, but I do know what is expected of me. I must keep the bloodlines clean.

It did not take long for Daphne to realize that the grounds of Hogwarts had just been graced with a morning shower. Mornings were some of her most favorite times. She loved being up before everyone else and able to witness the silent glory of a gorgeous sunny day peaking through the clouds as it kissed the night sky farewell. Even deep inside the walls of the castle, she could smell the wet grass, a smell she oddly loved. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, Daphne forced herself awake. A morning like this was not to be wasted away dreaming of mornings like this.
Slipping out of her bed, Daphne stretched out her tiny body and let out a jolly little yawn. She silently tiptoed her way over to her dresser, pulling out the first few articles of clothing she could get her hands on. When it came to style, Daphne really was not one to care. She had never been the girl obsessively flipping through magazines for the latest fashion and trends. Anything expensive she owned was bought by her mother in a desperate attempt to get her daughter to focus on something other than Dragons. The room was dark and she could barely make out the colors of her chosen pieces. She assumed she ended up with some sort of dark green t-shirt and dark denim jeans, which happened to be faded in all the wrong places and covered in multiple holes. When she was finished getting dressed, unbeknownst to her roommates, Daphne slipped out of the small-shared room and into the Hufflepuff common room, taking only a second to pull on a shiny pair of yellow rain boots and grab her brown leather satchel.
The glorious color yellow greeted her again as she stepped out into the Hufflepuff common room, awakening her senses. She did a small spin around the room, the only reason being sheer joy. Daphne adored the Hufflepuff common room. She could not imagine any of the other houses producing the same amount of warmth and comfort. It truly was her home away from home and at times she even found herself preferring it to her actual living room back in Scotland. Much in a hurry, Daphne scurried out of the common room before she lost her train of thought and ended up spending her morning daydreaming on one of the large armchairs.
The castle was basically barren. At random a student or teacher passed her to caught up in his or her own agenda to pay much attention to Daphne. It made it relatively easy for her to make her way outside with out the distraction of a random conversation. Though she simply adored random conversations, Daphne would get caught up for hours and miss out on the beautiful sights nature had planned for her.
Finally outside, Daphne contemplated her next move. She could settle down in the courtyard somewhere or lakeside. Each had its advantages and disadvantages. The lake had always been a favorite spot of hers but she often found herself returning with some sort of ailment after each visit. On one occasion, she spent two days in the infirmary when her right arm suddenly sprouted little purple pimple like bumps. The nurse never discovered what caused it and assumed it to be a practical joke of some sort in the form of a spell cast by a student on a certain patch of grass.
Grimacing at the thought of returning with bumps for a second time, Daphne settled on the courtyard. She picked a nice damp spot to settle into; unlike like most she was not bothered by the stickiness of dewy grass. Removing a few items from the satchel, she placed it behind her head and proceeded to stretch out on the grass using the bag as some sort of makeshift pillow. Her long red hair spread out about her looking much like the feathers of a male peacock.
Among the items she removed from the bag was a leather bound sketchbook and stoutly little piece of charcoal. Taking only a brief moment to enjoy the heat of the sun on her face in contrast with the cold bed of grass, she flipped to a previously marked up page in the book and continued on with her sketch.
