-----------------------------Up where the mountains meet the heavens above out where the lightening splits the sea I could swear that there's someone watching over me ------------------------------ It was in the middle of the night. A few minutes til midnight and Hailey was tossing and turning in her bed. She had been trying to get sleep for the past two hours, listening to the slight snores of her fellow dorm mates. Every time she closed her eyes she could see his face sneering at her. She could see the flames that were rising and it engulfed her hand. The fifteen year old scrambled out of bed, hitting the floor with a slight thud. She quickly bit down on her lower lip so not to cry. It was hard to believe that only four weeks had passed since she had encountered Rodolphus Lestrange. Four weeks since she had ran into James and Sirius in the Gryffindor Tower and began the healing process. She took a deep shaking breath. I give up, she told herself and started to dress. It was going to be a long day ahead of her but she could only blame one thing, her mind. The brown haired girl rolled her eyes as she finished getting dressed in the dark. It was something that she was used to by now. She reached over in the darkness and groped her side table for her wand. Ah, she thought to herself as her fingers lightly brushed against the wood. Here we go.
Hailey then took the first book that had come into contact with her fingers. She didn’t bother on lighting the tip at all. She then took one last look around the girls’ dorms before walking out, closing the door behind her with a gentle snap. She walked down the stairs, lost in her thoughts. For the past several years she had thought of Hogwarts as her home. It was a much better home than the one she was living in right now. There were people that looked out for her. Her housemates, her friends, the Professors that she had managed to get on her good side. She had friends in Gryffindor and Hufflepuff but never in Slytherin. She was basically forbidden to enter and a trouble magnet, as Sirius had often referred her to in a friendly term. Oh Merlin why did you turn everything around? She asked silently as she settled herself down on one of the armchairs. Hailey had everything planned out. She would end up in Slytherin and eventually followed her elder sister around, trying to be like her. That had changed when the hat had placed her in Ravenclaw. In Ravenclaw of all places. Most parents would be happy to That had changed when the hat had placed her in Ravenclaw. In Ravenclaw of all places. Most parents would be happy to have their child in a house that was known for its wit and learning.
Not Kevin Thomas, oh no. He wanted to have all of his children in Slytherin house. It was either that or disowned from the family. He even went so far as to threaten that he would write her out of his will. Hailey gave a mental shrug. At this point she was surprised that he still acknowledged her as ‘family’ put in loose terms. She had turned her back to him and started to hang around halfbloods and muggleborns and blood traitors. Oh if her ancestors could see her now. They would have a huge fit, she thought gloomily and glanced down at the book for the first time. It was one of her books on Divination oddly enough. She ran a hand down the cover before frowning slightly. Hailey was trying to remember if she had any homework in that class or not. “Oh well,” She murmured under her breath as she settled herself down. “It’s going to be a long night anyways. Might as well make myself comfortable.” She cracked open the book and just stared at the pages. Tagged. Open to all Ravenclaws! Words. 646 Notes. Here we go! Credits. we always misbehave, people latch down and then they rain on our parade - - -
Alistair had sat in the far corner of the Ravenclaw common room since last period. Books, parchment, quills and ink spread out on the table in front of him as he attempted to finish a particularly gruelling transfiguration essay. He hadn’t even gotten up for dinner, just opened a packet of chocolate bars and biscuits that he’d picked up from Hogsmeade on his last visit and munched on those. The idea being that he wouldn’t have to get up and break his writing flow. Except he’d never gotten into much of a flow, his writing when he did manage to scratch out a few words was disjointed and fragmented. He just couldn’t put down what he wanted to say when he actually figured out something to write. He usually holed up in the library to do his work, actually he usually holed up in the library anyway, much preferring it to the noisier common room.
The place wasn’t noisy now however. Admittedly, the last few stragglers had only just gone up to bed. Alistair glanced at the grandfather clock in the corner to see that it was a minute to midnight. He sighed, stretching his arms to the ceiling, thankful that he had a free period first thing tomorrow morning. The joys of being a seventh year. He glared at his essay, the one he had been working on and off on for the past, what, eight hours? He had gotten distracted by some friends for an hour or so and by the Ravenclaw quidditch captain who had wanted to run a couple of ideas by him and of course, the general hustle and bustle of the common room in the early evening had stopped him from getting too much done. But really, he should have finished by now. He had actually been thankful for those distractions. Procrastinating. But now he had peace and quiet and still he wasn’t making much progress.
The door that led to the girls’ dormitories creaked open, causing Alistair to look up from his essay and watch a haggard looking brown haired girl wander into the common room clutching a book and mumbling to herself. She seemed completely oblivious to the fact that she wasn’t alone. Since it was a reason to procrastinate on his essay even more he watched her sit down and open her book but her eyes didn’t seem to be scanning the pages. He chewed thoughtfully on the end of his quill, wondering whether or not he should reveal himself, he didn’t want to scare her and yet hiding away in his corner and keeping an eye on her seemed rather creepy. He took one last glance at the words on his paper deciding that he wasn’t going to get it finished anyway and so finally admitting defeat and dropping his quill, he stood up, starting towards her and clearing his throat to announce his presence.
He bent his head slightly so as to get a good look at the cover of the book she was holding. ”Divination?” Alistair said with a sneer. ”As your fellow Ravenclaw, I feel it my duty to inform you that you should not pay any attention to that subject. And drop it as soon as you get the chance.” He sat down in the armchair opposite her, propping his feet up on the table between them, frowning at her. ”It’s Hazel, isn’t it?” He asked, knowing he was probably wrong on her name; he didn’t particularly pay attention to his housemates since he tended to find Ravenclaws insufferable. He only knew the names of those in his year and on the quidditch team and this girl was neither. Alistair ripped into a packet of jelly snakes, pulling one out and popping it whole into his mouth. "Want one?" He offered, leaning forward and holding the open packet towards her.

SHE COULD BE A JOAN OF ARC It wasn't like her not to be able to sleep. In fact, sleepless nights were quite a rare occurence with Maria Langley. Not even nightmares, when the came, managed to keep the female awake for long, her rational mind kicking in and effectively banishing her fears so that the female could return to her sleep. usually, maria would sleep like a baby. not to mention she was quite a heavy sleeper. seriously, the girl could sleep through a hurricane, and wake up the next morning completely well rested.
however, it seemed that tonight wasn't really a good night to sleep. her sleep had been plagued with weird and senseless dreams, that kept jolting her awake and made the female wonder if there was something wrong with her head. The last one had consisted of a giant pink stuffed bunny trying to strangle the female. it was with relief that the female woke up within the darkness of her dorm room, glad to be in a calm, bunny-free environment.
she wasn't sure why her brain kept giving her these weird dreams, but she knew that at this rate, she would be better of if she just got out of bed and used the free time to work on something. well, they had been assigned an essay for potions, and the sooner she got started on that, the sooner she would be done with it. so maybe she could just go work on it and...
the sound of someone moving in the room interrupted her line of thought. apparently, she wasn't the only ravenclaw having trouble sleeping that night. the female heard as her housemate moved about the dark dorm, until she finally left. well, she figured she might as well do the same. at least she could keep the other some company. the female tossed her covers aside and swung her legs out of her bed and she glanced around the room, trying to find who had been the one to leave just moments before. hailey's bed seemed to be the one that was empty, not that it was that easy to tell. maria reached for her wand. she wasn't going to light it - she didn't want to risk getting a pillow to the face, but since she wasn't about trying to find her potions notebook in the dark, she summoned everything she would need to work. the items quietly flew to her bed, and the female grinned as she put on her robe, before picking everything up and exiting the dorm.
she was making her way down the stairs when she heard a male's voice. so it seemed there were quite a few insomniac ravenclaws tonight. she made it to the common room at the same time she heard alistair getting hailey's name wrong. "It's Hailey" she corrected with a light frown as she walked to one of the tables in order to drop off her materials.
WORDS I DIDN'T COUNT TAGGED ALL THE AWESOME RAVVIES AROUND NOTES I DUNNO, THIS IS WEIRD TEMPLATE BY WE WERE INFINITE ! OF CAUTIO 2.0

-----------------------------Up where the mountains meet the heavens above out where the lightening splits the sea I could swear that there's someone watching over me ------------------------------ Ever since the attack had happened Hailey was a bit jumpy. She jumped even at the smallest of noise. She had figured that she should have been checked in at the mental ward in St. Mungo’s years ago. She let out a small gasp as she heard someone clearing their throat. Her hand diving in the pocket of her robes, Hailey pulled out her wand and whirled around in her chair. She pointed it straight at the person and blushed when she gotten a good look at him. It was one of her fellow Ravenclaws. “Sorry,” she whispered as she lowered her wand. Hailey blinked at him and the blush depend. “I happen to be very interested in Divination thank you very much,” Her voice had turned surprisingly cold. It was what happened if people questioned her and what she was doing. Very seldom would she use it. She blinked and recoiled a bit as she watched him placed his feet on the table and gave him one of her best glares. “Would you mind? Some people place their books on that table.” Really, what on earth was wrong with this boy? In a flash Hailey had changed. Despite the both of them being in the same house, Hailey thought to herself that he really wasn’t worth much of her time. She felt the blush on her cheeks rise, this time with shame.
She blinked as he offered some jelly snakes. He was….rather strange in a way that Hailey couldn’t place. “Thank you.” She told him shyly as she took one from the bag and bit down on it. She frowned at him when he had gotten her name wrong. She couldn’t really blame him. Hailey opened her mouth and was about to correct him when another person, this time a girl, made the correction for her. She closed her mouth and turned around before breaking out in a huge grin at Maria. She then turned her head to the boy. “It’s Hailey. Well, Hailey Thomas to be exact but I usually don’t use my last name unless I have to,” Her cheeks turned red with shame. If he was in the ‘in crowd’ with the purebloods, so to speak, he would have perked up at the sound of her last name. Her family was well known. Kevin working in the Ministry as well as a Death Eater. The latter part she kept to herself, knowing that he would murder her in her sleep. She didn’t even act like a typical pureblood. She was around more with other blood traitors and those that were deemed less than worthy. Although, on occasions, she did come across a few people that she had met in her past due to the pureblood parties and such like that. The boy that was sitting across from her didn’t look familiar in the past tense.
While she had seen him around the castle and in the common room they usually didn’t encounter one another. He looked to be a few years older than her. She then shook her head at herself, pulling out of her thoughts. Of all the times for her to let her mind wonder off. “I couldn’t sleep. The common room looked empty at first.” It was nice, knowing that she wasn’t alone with being up this late at night. Although they probably had different reasons. A small frown appeared on her lips as she ran a hand over her book. She did need to study for divination and could use that as an excuse. Hailey looked down at her hand and winced, realizing that it showed something that looked suspiciously like burn marks. James and Sirius had done all they could with it but it would take weeks for it to go away. The fifteen year old hastily pulled her left hand away and pulled out her right one. Thank Merlin she was right handed. It would have been awkward to explain to her housemates. It would have been especially awkward with this boy that was across from the table. One that she didn’t even know. She probably should tell Maria. Hailey made a mental note to tell her later, or tell her when they were climbing the stairs to their dorms whenever their bodies demanded that they go to sleep.
“I still need to study for Divination and get started on a History of Magic essay that Professor Binns set for us.” Hailey mused. Anything to break the slightly awkward silence that was spreading between the three of them. She then looked over to Maria. “I’m slightly nervous about our exams coming up. Not that it matters to father since he thinks that I’m nothing but a waste of spa-” Hailey instantly shut up. Not for the first time did her cheeks turned even more pink as she quickly glanced away from the two of them. The past few weeks seemed to have a thing going for Hailey. It seemed that she was sprouting things that she kept hidden. Granted, they were hidden for quite a while. She quietly ran a finger over the title of her book as a comfortable silence fell. we always misbehave, people latch down and then they rain on our parade - - -
What was this; take a dig at Alistair day? In an act of innocence, Al raised his palms Don’t shoot I’m just the friendly Ravenclaw. Yeah right. This was exactly why he didn’t hang around with his housemates. They were insufferable to the max. Either that or this Hazel- Hailey, apparently her name was Hailey. Alistair shot Maria a nonchalant shrug and a roll of his eyes because quite honestly, he didn’t care. But whatever, anyway, this Hailey girl seemed to be rather jumpy. He hadn’t exactly sneaked up behind and grabbed her or anything yet she had still practically jumped out of her skin. He gave her a contemplative look until she lowered her wand, realising that he was not a threat. Honestly, Alistair was rather offended and he let that show in his expression. He wasn’t some sort of predator, sneaking up on girls in the middle on the night.
But she apologised and looked quite embarrassed about it so Al let it go. It was too late at night to lecture her on his morals. That was until she revealed she liked divination. With an ‘are you kidding me?’ look he shook his head and even put his palm to his head to add to the exasperation. ”Then you need your head looking at.” Alistair stated bluntly. ”It’s nonsense. You can’t predict the future.” His tone stated with a self-assured clarity that he was right and that he didn’t expect an argument in return. ”So you should drop it.” He said again, offering a smile as if his advice was a gift from the Gods. Which in Alistair’s opinion, it was. The subject was ridiculous. Out of curiosity, he had taken it for a couple of weeks in his third year and had only stuck around for that long in order to mock the stupid lesson. Arithmancy was of much more use; deal in solid hard facts and you can’t go wrong.
He dug into his bag of sweets again and then this time held the packet out for Maria, wordlessly. Then turned his attention back to Hailey with a frown. ”They’re not muddy or anything, I’ve been inside all day.” He then smirked at her, adding, ”Don’t worry, the shoes aren’t new – I suppose you believe in silly superstitions like that as well as divination.” He didn’t say it coldly, or even remotely unkindly, he just spoke in his usual, light-hearted Scottish accent. He wasn’t trying to offend Hailey, or Maria for that matter, he just liked to share his opinion and say whatever he was thinking. Solicitous was a word that eluded Alistair. Not purposely, he just wasn’t ever very aware of the effects his words might have on people until he saw their reactions, and even then he was often confused as to what he had actually said that might’ve offended them.
Alistair put his feet back onto the table now that Hailey had taken her share of the sweets and was now introducing herself formally. He cocked his head to one side, curiously. ”Don’t you like it then?” She was a strange girl, one minute standing up for herself and the next shying away. His mind was sifting through his thoughts and memories because her surname did ring a bell. He had a sneaking suspicion that she was a pureblood. As was Alistair, not that it really meant anything. Well it did, but not in the, ‘Look at me, look at me, I’m a pureblood elitist who wants to persecute anyone that’s not’ kind of way. He was proud to be of pure blood, and although he might sometimes brag about it, he did not choose sides. And neither did his family so it wasn’t like he could refer to past pureblood social gatherings because they had never attended a single one of them. Al snapped a jelly snake in two. ”I’m Alistair Macmillan” He tossed half of it up in the air, catching it in his mouth, ”But you probably already knew that.” He gobbled up the other end of the sweet, only half listening to her ramble.
Stretching his arms to the ceiling once more, Al flashed his crooked grin to Maria. ”I expect you don’t need to worry about studying. Your mother could give you the answers.” This gentle teasing was a little less offensive but it was different because he actually spoke to try and hit a nerve. Not in a horrible way, just banter. Yes, Maria he knew, but only because of her mother and only because he had invited her to a party that was happening this weekend, earlier this week, ”You still haven’t told me yes yet.” He said, which was Alistair's way of demanding she agree to come along with him. Once again he turned with a frown to Hailey, this time in a slightly worried way. He raised an eyebrow questioningly but didn’t say anything since it wasn’t exactly his place. See he did have tact sometimes.
