--------------------------------I think I'm falling in love with you My heart is beating faster than I want it to--------------------------------- There was really little to no noise that evening in the hallways. It was an hour after curfew as a red haired girl turned a corner. She pushed a couple of strands of her hair out of her emerald green eyes as she started to become lost in her thought. Really, Lily Evans did love to patrol by herself. It provided her with the perfect opportunity to think about what had happened that day. Either that or gathering up her thoughts about a particular issue she was having at hand. She certainly had a lot to think about. Battles were ranging in her mind like always. Severus or James? She growled in frustration as she shook her head. The sixteen year old had tried her hardest not to think about that. There was still some hurt feelings for both of them. Especially what happened last year and afterwards. Oh Merlin why can’t I make up my mind? Lily thought furiously. Her ears pricked up, hearing the distance sounds of footsteps. She quirked an eyebrow as she pulled out her wand, silently making her way to the source. Her own feet made little noise. Her parents had often joked that she moved like a cat around in the house. One moment there would be no one there, and then when they turned they found themselves staring at a pair of emerald green eyes.
She stifled a giggle at the memory. To be far Lily was only nine years old at that thought. The nine year old Lily was different than the sixteen year old one. It was surprising at how far she had come along in just a few years. She still remembered most of her childhood. Playing with Petunia and the other kids and being generally close with the other girl. She frowned as a thought crossed her mind. In primary school Lily had few friends. Most of the girls were jealous of her. She could remember the times that she had come home in tears because they had teased her. They did not like her looks and her personality. They also did not like the fact that she was book smart. If there was one thing that was lacking in Lily it was the ability in being street smart, as most of the children were. She considered herself very lucky to have the family that she did. Their house was roomy and cozy. Enough for the girls to have rooms of their own….her eyes held that faraway look as she started to remember the feeling of being safe and protective in her home. Her thoughts turned to the situation in the wizarding world and she frowned a little. As much as she wanted to think that, Lily knew that she was not safe. Really, the only place that she could be safe was at Hogwarts.
After all, wasn’t the Headmaster the only person that You-Know-Who was afraid of? Or so the rumors went anyways. Lily knew what she wanted to do the next two years. Join the Order and fight for the light side as well as working at either St. Mungo’s or the Ministry of Magic. She had done some thinking throughout the summer. At first she didn’t know what she wanted to do until she looked closely at the Ministry. Probably something in the Magical Law Department. Wouldn’t that be fun? She asked herself with a grin. That grin soon faded away as she got closer and closer to the footsteps. “What are you doing?” Lily asked the person. Their back was to her. She practically had no way in telling who they were. “It’s after hours.” [/blockquote] Tagged!? Bellatrix Words!? 610 Notes!? This is finally up! So sorry for the lateness! Credit!? Her timing could not have been worse. It was hardly her fault of course. Her detention was only supposed to have lasted an hour. But when Professor McGonagall had returned to her classroom at the end of the hour to find Bellatrix hadn’t done any of the work she’d been set, the rules suddenly changed. The Gryffindor Head of House had coldly informed the seventeen year old that she’d be staying there until the work was done before sweeping out of the classroom. That hadn’t gone down too well with Bellatrix, to put it mildly. Not only did she majorly disagree with these detentions in the first place, but now she was being made to do extra time? All she’d done was land some little first year brat in the Hospital Wing, how did that justify the three months’ worth of detentions that McGonagall had given her? Of course, in hindsight, maybe attacking a member of Gryffindor house wasn’t the best idea she’d ever had, she was far more likely to get away with it if the Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff Head of house was involved. Bella was almost certain the Transfiguration professor had something against her.
Still, the extra time she’d had to spend in detention meant she was over half an hour late to the owlery. Since her first year at Hogwarts, Bella’s parents had adopted the habit of sending her a letter once every two weeks. Nothing unusual about that. But Bella’s letters were sent straight to the owlery to be personally collected instead of directly to her at breakfast. Her parents’ reasoning was unknown to her, but she could hazard a guess that it was something to do with ensuring the letter didn’t get lost among dozens of other letters. Either way, the family owl was waiting for her when she arrived, a rather disapproving look on his face. She quickly retrieved the letter, putting it in her pocket for later. Like most Slytherins, correspondence with her parents was only carried out because it was expected, not because she particularly desired to do so. The letter held little interest to her. If it was from her Father, then it would be a short note wishing her well and telling her to contact him if she needed anything. If it was from her Mother, it would be a detailed account of the latest Pureblood ball, who had been there, what everybody was wearing etc. Neither letter held any sort of appeal for Bellatrix.
On her way back down to the Common Room, a voice stopped her in her tracks. She smirked, the voice was instantly recognisable. Of all the Prefects she could have run into, it would be Lily Evans she encountered. And she was alone. Brilliant. “Evans,” she replied, turning around so she could see the red head, “What a . . . pleasant surprise.”

--------------------------------I think I'm falling in love with you My heart is beating faster than I want it to--------------------------------- Her stomach sank rather rapidly as the other person turned around. Of all the people that she had caught it would have been Bellatrix Black. She was a year older than Lily but the red haired knew better than to run into her. Just look at all of the rumors that had been spreading about the Slytherin. She took a deep breath. “Black. The feeling is…mutual. You do know that I’m going to take points away and giving you a detention right?” Lily would probably make instant enemies with her. Then again, they already were. Slytherins usually don’t associate or hang out with muggleborns and she was a prime target for any of them. “Maybe this would teach you to not fool around the hallways after hours.” This was golden, pure golden. A sixth year student telling a seventh year what not to do. Oh she could see this encounter going very well. She ran a hand through her hair as she glanced up and down the corridor. Great, they were alone. Lily quickly whipped out her wand and pointed it at the older Slytherin. “Don’t try any tricks,” she warned. “I know some of them….” Her voice trailed off as she realized that she was shaking with fear. Fear at being alone in the hallways and alone with none other than Bellatrix Black. Lily had heard stories about her. Probably most of them were a bit exaggerating and not true but then again she would never know.
“What were you exactly doing out of your common room? Up to no good I suspect. Sort of runs in with the family name. Too much like Sirius.” It was here that Lily had shrugged. What little she had known of Sirius was through either James or, like always, rumors. She bit down on the inside of her cheeks. I should start thinking before I speak, she thought to herself with a mental sigh. It’s only going to get me into trouble. Another thought instantly perked her up and she smirked slyly. No Slytherin would dare hurt anyone within school grounds. It would have been done in secret and threats. “You can’t do anything to me.” Okay, maybe it would have been her fault if anything happened to her this night. She was only provoking the other girl. And Lily did report to Professor McGonagall because she was the one who had made her a perfect last year. Taking a good look at the expression on Bellatrix’s face Lily instantly shut up. She lowered her wand and stored it in her pockets. She then folded her arms across her chest. Merlin, why was she doing this? Giving the other girl an opportunity to hurt her and threaten her? It looked like the cat had found the mouse so to speak. Lily made a mental note not to cross her again, although that would have been very unlikely.
She didn’t know what she was doing. Acting tough to make Bellatrix think twice about taking her on? Whatever she was doing it wasn’t working. Lily thought that she would have been the tougher one if she had put up a front. “Where you just coming back from having ordering someone to do your homework for you?” Here she frowned at the other girl. “It’s just like you Slytherins. Can’t do anything for yourselves.” Okay, Lily was really going to get it. She had uncrossed her arms and pulled out her wand again. She pointed it straight at the other girl’s chest. Her eyes were glittering like cold emeralds. Really, she honestly had no idea what she was doing. [/blockquote] Tagged!? Bellatrix! Words!? 604 Notes!? I do apologize for the lateness.
