YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP The Hufflepuff common room was practically empty at the current hour of the day. Technically Amelia was supposed to be fast asleep, but lately she had been having severe insomnia and spent her late hours reading or studying. Not being able to sleep was a very curious thing for Mia, especially now considering she had nothing stressful going on in her life. Really the only thing she worried about was the safety of her family. Their devotion to the Order, although just, would probably be the reason for their death. She didn't know what she'd do if the two of them died family meant everything to her, and without her mom and dad she really didn't have anyone. On the other side of things she also had two younger siblings who wouldn't have a parent to look up to. The thought of losing them caused her to shiver.
Trying hard to get that thought out of her mind, Amelia went back to reading the Daily Prophet. Politics were very important to her, and she loved being up to date on the latest happenings in the wizarding world. Getting an unbiased opinion at the school was impossible. Actually get an unbiased opinion from any source was impossible, the Daily Prophet didn't even state the facts simply. Things like that drove her nuts. Why couldn't newspapers simply write about logical, clear facts instead of convenient facts? Opinions did matter very much, but that's why there was an opinion column.
After reading a couple articles she put the paper down and stood up to stretch a little bit. The heads weren't from her house, and the prefects were definitely sound asleep by now so she figured she had nothing to worry about. Anyways, Amelia wasn't really causing any trouble; she was simply catching up on reading. She took a seat in front of the fireplace and grasped her arms to warm up. The castle was very drafty, especially during the frisky months like October.
As she sat in front of the fireplace she nearly fell asleep, but her heavy eyelids widened as she heard footsteps. Calmly, she turned around to see who it was, hoping to God she wasn't going to receive detention or anything. The tension she felt relaxed when she saw who it was; October Madley one of her dearest friends. A smile appeared on her lips as she spoke a whispered hello.

But when it did happen, she couldn't get to sleep and she couldn't stay asleep. She had to get up and move. Had to get out of the room with these girls. She quietly got up and she moved to get her hoodie. It was cold out, so she needed to stay warm. Her hair was up in a ponytail and she grabbed a blanket, just in case. She always came prepared for the cold when she went to school. She was usually cold while she was there, so she had to make sure that she had the proper things to stay warm: extra sweatshirts, extra blankets, anything to keep him warm. She wrapped herself up with it, and grabbed a book. She would get herself into a fairytale land until she fell asleep, it was what she usually did when she her body was rebelling against her. She opened the door to her dorm room and crept out of it, trying not to wake the sleeping girls in her room. It would end in her downfall.
It wasn't that she didn't like the girls she lived with, they just got on October's nerves more than anyone else in the Hufflepuff house. They were typical girls, and October didn't like it. Gossiping, drama, anything those girls could get their hands on to talk about, they were all chit chat all night. It was annoying and it also made for long nights for October. And although the red head wasn't the best in school, and she didn't exactly like it that much, but she still wanted good grades so she could be successful when she got out. She needed to be able to support a family when she got older... She shook her head. She was still only seventeen. She knew that she shouldn't think about future ties and anything like that, since she was still just a baby. But she always was scared she wouldn't be successful in the future. She just wanted that for a family she was going to have when she was older.
She crept down the stairs to the common room and saw someone else sitting there. She clutched her blanket tighter as she felt the tiny shift in temperature and she let her arm with book in hand fall down to her side. It was a good friend of hers sitting there, even a best friend. This girl was miss Amelia Bones. October talked to her more than anyone, her best friend. They met October's first year and instantly hit it off. They've been inseparable ever since. October opened up to Amelia about her abuses, everything. October's truest friend, and she couldn't be more grateful for her. She heard the quiet hello that escaped Amelia's lips and smiled. "Hello my friend," she said, her voice soft so that she didn't wake anyone, though they probably couldn't hear her all the way in the common room. "What are you doing up so late?" she asked as she moved over to the couch and sat cross-legged and put the book down beside her. |
