-----------------------------Up where the mountains meet the heavens above out where the lightening splits the sea I could swear that there's someone watching over me ------------------------------ Hailey waited an hour after Rodolphus had left the room. She was frozen in her chair and she just waited. Just waited for him to come back with Marcus and they would finish her off together, just like he had said he would. After forty five minutes had passed she slowly stood up from the chair. She winced as her legs protested the walking. She bent down and rubbed the spots where the ropes had been. She just knew the ropes left a mark that was going to be there for weeks to come. The brown haired girl gathered a fistful of her sleeves and rubbed her forehead furiously. She felt the warmness and stickiness that was the blood coming off. Hailey figured that she would just have to wash it off in the rest room. She felt her stomach dropping as she realized that it was late. Probably about a few hours after dinner. Everyone would be in their common room. Maybe….just maybe if she would run up to the Gryffindor Tower and bang loudly on the portrait of the Fat Lady. It was either that or yelling and pleading for the Fat Lady to find Sirius. Suddenly his words rang into her head that he had told her the morning after her sorting ceremony. “If you need help, I’ll always be there for you Hails.” That’s what it took for Hailey to come to her senses, well sort of.
She snatched her wand off the floor and placed one foot in front of the other. She broke out into a run. She could feel the beginning of another major breakdown but did it really matter? As far as she was concerned Hailey was pretty much broken. Merlin only knows how long she would take to heal. As that thought entered her mind, the Ravenclaw lost her footing and tripped, falling face first onto the floor. Biting back a cry of pain, the fifteen year old could hear Rodolphus’s laughter. She could also hear him telling her that she was worthless. A worthless blood traitor that couldn’t do anything right. Was she really? Shaking with fright and taking a deep breath, Hailey quickly scrambled to her feet and broke out into a run again. Her goal was to stop running until she caught sight of the Gryffindor Tower. She knew she was forbidden to enter into another’s common room. Everyone was forbidden to enter the common rooms that didn’t belong to them. She didn’t care now. She just wanted to see Sirius. The mere mention of his name sent her running even faster. She started to cry again. Tears were slipping down her cheeks as she ran. Another thought filled her with fear. What if he pushed her to report Rodolphus to him? Hailey could see the smooth look on the Slytherin’s face as he lied his way out of the situation.
She could see the professors shaking their heads at her as if it was her fault that she had gotten herself into the situation in the first place. She could see being expelled from Hogwarts and forced to living her life in the Thomas Manor. As nothing more than a slave, a toy to be used at their convince. It was this thought, and this thought alone, that caused Hailey to break down into tears. She shook with fright as she realized she didn’t even know which floor she was on. Had Rodolphus broken her to this point? To the point where she didn’t even know where, or what, she really was? Her face turned white as a ghost. Conflicting thoughts were running wild in her mind as she tried to stop them. A full blown out vision made her come to a complete halt in the middle of the sixth floor. She was a bit older. Someone that she didn’t even know had hit her across the back of her head. She saw the person throwing her hands into the fire every time she made a mistake. Hailey let out a small whimper of fright as she shook her head before continuing on. Her mental thoughts proved one thing and one thing only. She had been screwed up in the head thanks to none other than Rodolphus Lestrange. She really wasn’t fit to mingle around with the other people.
The other, NORMAL people. Normal people who did as they were told. People who pleased their parents when they were sorted into family houses. She closed her eyes, shaking her head again, trying to clear her thoughts. She knew the moment she was in Gryffindor Tower when she spotted two slightly older boys heading that way. Her heart leaped up in her throat as she stared at them, mistaking the jet black haired boy as Sirius. Hailey really wasn’t thinking straight as she leaped at him. Her arms wrapped around his waist as she collided with him. “Sirius!” She winced as she felt the robes moving across her burned hand. “Sirius…” The fifteen year old Ravenclaw broke down again, this time in a fresh wave of tears. it's your tyranny that drives us, ADDS THE FIRE TO OUR FLAMES |
[/div] It wasn’t t unusual to see James Potter and Sirius Black departing the common room just a few minutes before curfew and so the two boys weren’t given strange looks or frowns as they headed towards the portrait. And no one tried to stop them as they never seemed to lose any points for their afterhours strolls. James wondered what the other students thought about how they got away with it. He allowed himself a small chuckle as he smoothed the front of his robes under which his prized invisibility cloak was hidden. He knew Sirius would know what he was thinking; more than ever these days he seemed to be on the same wavelength. James hated to think that he favoured any of his friends but he did seem to have a connection with Padfoot unlike no other. And that was why it was just the two of them tonight, as it so often was. They’d been down to the kitchens, eaten their fill and told the house elves to save them a large portion of cakes, sweets and butterbeer for this coming weekend in preparation for the party that was going to take place when Gryffindor did beat Slytherin a in the first quidditch match of the season.
They were now back in Gryffindor tower, joking excitedly about the forthcoming game, not noticing that the Fat Lady had disappeared for the night now that curfew was in place. Instead, James grinning in anticipation at the night ahead soon realised they wasn’t alone. He quickly shoved his invisibility cloak under his robes again (they had managed to get back to Gryffindor tower on time and so hadn’t needed to wear it) but before he knew it, the other occupant of the corridor, a girl, was running at him and shouting Sirius’ name. Which was really quite depressing. Could he not get himself a girl, friend without them having known his womanizing best mate first? He just about had time to glace shocked around at his friend before she flung herself at him. Stumbling backwards but managing to keep them both upright, James tried to get the girl to calm down. ”Hey, Hey!” She seemed to be having some sort of hysterical breakdown and he instantly came to the conclusion that it was Sirius’ fault. He wanted to turn and ask him what he’d done now but he was a little pre-occupied with trying to extract himself from the sobbing girl. He bent his head back, trying to get a good look at her face to see if he recognised her.
She continued to cling to him, apparently convinced that he was Sirius. In the state that she was in he didn’t have the heart to correct her. He was more interested in the congealed blood that covered her left arm. His eyes finally managed to rest on her face and he frowned because he did recognise her (though only by sight, he sifted through his brain for her name) and he was pretty sure that she hadn’t ended up in Sirius’ bed. But admittedly it was hard to keep track. ”Hailey!” He cried, her grip on him was becoming uncomfortably tight and his hands grasped hers but he let go instantly at the wail of pain she gave him and as he saw the raw and reddened skin of her left hand. His eyes flew open wide, a million questions now running through his head but he settled on the more important one. ”Merlin, what happened?” Gently, he attempted to push her to the floor, crouching down with her and giving Sirius a look of complete dismay. He took in her appearance now that he was in full view of her body and his mind instantly jumped to a conclusion he hoped to Merlin was not true.
He pulled out his wand, because his eyes kept jumping to the hideous burns on her fingers and palm and it needed dealing with immediately. He looked helplessly up and down the corridor but it was Sirius who handed him an empty ink bottle. James transfigured it into a small bowl, filling it with cold water. He kept a steady hand on her all the time, hoping to reassure her as much as possible with his touch. ”Here.” He said as he placed the bowl carefully down on her left hand side, listening to her speak.

TELL ME THAT YOU'VE GOT EVERYTHING YOU WANT&& Y O U R B I R D C A N S I N GBUT YOU DON'T GET ME, YOU DON'T GET ME Sirius and James were often mistaken for one another at a glance, their jet black hair and devishly handsome good looks leading most to believe they were related- which Padfoot supposed was true enough... to a degree. He had known his friend long enough to notice the differences however, he and James were polar opposites really. Distantly related though they were, the boys could not have been more dissimilar. Prongs was far more tanned that than he, hours of quidditch practice leaving him a few shades darker. Sirius was more... poised, he supposed, with perfect posture and a certain air of grace about him. James’ mother had been a Black too... but she hadn’t exactly passed on the same sense of decorum his parents had instilled in him. It was a hard demeanor to shake really- near impossible.
Not that it had ever stopped him from trying. Sirius Black took every opportunity to shake his roots in fact, his late night wanderings with his best friend being testament to this fact. More and more often it seemed they left their other friends behind, the four of them having grown far too big to fit beneath the one cloak. It was just he and James tonight, just as it was on so many others. The boys had spent an entire summer together after all, the bond between them only having grown stronger. He and James simply shared a mindset, one that the no other seemed able to tap into.
Dragging his feet as he made his way back up to the common room, Sirius went about exchanging mindless banter with his best mate. A full stomach had left him feeling a little sluggish, the god forsaken trip back to the tower seeming to take an eternity. Climbing the stairs was bad enough at the best of times... but right before curfew? Lights were beginning to go out, students gaggled and giggled throughout the halls. It was enough to drive anyone mental.
A familiar voice broke him out of his trance however, the satisfied grin being wiped clean from his face. What in the world was Hailey doing in the Gryffindor tower so late at night? Or better yet, what in the world was she carrying on about. Raising his eyebrow at James, Sirius found himself at a loss for words, unsure of how to explain the situation. He knew exactly what his friend was thinking after all, but figured his assumption would be rectified soon enough. Right now, he was more worried about the hysterical girl calling his name.
Taking a step back as Hailey near tackled his mate to the ground, Sirius gave her the once over. The Blood in her hair did not go unnoticed, neither the burns on her hands and wrists. With anger rising in his chest, the boy barely had time to think things through. Murderous though he might have been, Hailey’s best interests needed to be put above all else.
Literally choking for words, the boy fumbled through his pockets to find and empty ink bottle, passing it to his friend in a haste. For once in his life he was actually glad he’d learnt to patch himself up, the mediwizard inside him wordlessly driving his actions.
Shooting James a panicked look, he pulled out his wand, vanishing the clotted blood from her hair. He tried in vain to catch a glance at the wound, only to find she had buried herself too deeply in his best mates neck. On any other occasion he might have felt a little jealous... but he was in far too much of a frazzle to give the scene much thought,
”Dear lord Hails... what happened?” he finally stuttered, voice shaky and confused. He felt his fists clench then, a new wave of anger seeming to have washed over him. He was going to kill the sick bastard that had done this to his friend, skin them alive and dangle their innards from the top of the Astronomy Tower. He didn’t care how ‘Black’ it made him sound... nobody messed with his friends. Nobody.

-----------------------------Up where the mountains meet the heavens above out where the lightening splits the sea I could swear that there's someone watching over me ------------------------------ She was gripping the boy tightly. In her state it was a bit hard to tell what his expression was like. It took her a few minutes to calm down slightly as she slowly raised her head. She was doing her hardest not to break down again. She took a good at the boy and instantly felt her cheeks redden. “James!” Hailey was surprised. She bit down on the inside of her cheeks at the question that she knew would come up soon. Half of her wanted to tell him that she fell into the fire at the Ravenclaw Tower. The other half wanted to tell him the truth. She battled with herself for a few minutes as she slowly sat down on the floor, shaking. Hailey turned her head to the other boy that was standing there and wanted to get up. She wanted to hug Sirius and just cry. Her whole body shook with fright as she came to the conclusion that she owed her two friends much more than the lie. She told them everything as she slowly slipped her hand into the bowl. She hissed softly in pain. Tears filled her eyes but she was wiling herself not to cry. She told them that she had left the Ravenclaw table during dinner, not all that hungry. She shared the exchange with her sister and left soon after as Marcus had given her a look.
Hailey told them everything. Every single detail that she could remember. When it came to the point where the fire was involved she had choked up a bit. She took a deep shaking breath and continued. She felt her cheeks turning pink as she stammered that he had written the word traitor on her forehead with her blood. “I rubbed it off before I left the room. I didn’t….I didn’t want anyone to come across me. Once he left I waited for about an hour before I ran. I did not stop running until I ran into James.” She finished with a small shiver. The cold water was numbing her hand. She glanced down at it, letting it float before slowly raising her head to look at the two boys. “I can’t report him. He said that he would do it next time and that he would get Marcus in on it. The last thing I need is for him is trying to force himself on me again!” Those words rang out in the silence that had followed. Horrified at herself, Hailey raised her other hand and clapped it to her mouth. Oh Merlin she was going to get herself into so much trouble. “Please. Don’t say anything that I told you. I’ll get expelled. Rodolphus would only lie his way through to the Professors! They’ll shake their heads at me and I’ll be forced to live with my parents at the manor!”
The Ravenclaw was nearing hysterics again. Her body was shaking. “He said that if anyone asked I was trying to catch my fall in the Ravenclaw Tower when my hand slipped and fell into the fire.” While Rodolphus was torturing her Hailey had kept everything he told her in a small piece of her brain. She raised her head to look up at Sirius. “Please Sirius. This is the first time I’m begging you because I know you to well. Please don’t kill him. He’ll know that I told the truth,” Hailey was shaking. She was downright terrified of Rodolphus now. “I know what he’s capable of.” She added in a soft whisper. The brown haired girl was staring down at the floor. She was too scared to look at either of them. Especially at Sirius. It did help that she had known him for almost half her life. “I don’t want this to get out. Everyone would say that I had deserved it for being a blood traitor and letting it happen to me. Those are a few reasons why I kept the attempted rape a secret.” She took a deep shaking breath as she turned her head to stare at her hand. The water was a miracle for the burn. She could hardly feel it but she knew that, once taken out of the water, it would be a different story.
“I wasn’t sure whether or not anyone would be around.” The fifteen yea old slowly raised her head, looking at her two friends for the first time. “I didn’t want to take any chances and…well, you know. I wasn’t about to go down the hospital wing and you can’t make me.” There it was. The stubbornness that was coming out of Hailey in the wrong time. She sighed softly. “I wish I learned how to heal myself. It would do wonders after father’s beatings. That’s one of the few reasons that I aim to be a Healer at St. Mungo’s….” Her voice trailed off as she realized what she had said and quickly ducked her head. This really wasn’t her day. it's your tyranny that drives us, ADDS THE FIRE TO OUR FLAMES |
[/div] With each word that Hailey spoke, James knew that his worst fear was being confirmed. Someone had done this to her. Automatically, the fingers on his hand that was leaning against the wall, propping him up, dug into the stone in a vain attempt to release some of the anger that built up inside of him at the mention of Rodolphus Lestrange’s name. He wanted to storm and shout and hunt the bastard down right now but that would do Hailey no good. Besides, Sirius would be enraged also, James needed to keep his head clear and do his best to calm the frightened and sobbing girl in front of him. He knew Lestrange was crazy, knew that the guy was liable to throw curses and hex people up but to submit them to this? It sickened him to his very stomach. His knees began to feel weak as he listened to her words with horror, letting out a string of violent swear words under his breath.
Noticing with revulsion that there was still blood smeared on her forehead, James dipped the cuff of his robes into the water, dampening them and gently wiped away what was left. ”We’re going straight to McGonagall.” James said fiercely, standing up. But of course, she shouted him down. He wanted to interrupt, and ask who the hell this Marcus bloke was but his jaw dropped at her following words and he looked aghast up at Sirius to see if he knew anything about that. James didn’t think that Hailey would be expelled for lying if they believed Lestrange’s version of events, but she would be subjected to this again if she reported him of that he was certain. The injustice of it all made James’ blood boil and he was beginning to see red. He wanted nothing more than to cause the Slytherin a serious amount of pain. He felt helpless as well; he didn’t know what to do. Sure he could patch up Hailey’s physical injuries; admittedly the burn was a little more complicated, but the mental scarring? How was he supposed to deal with that?
James shook his head, scoffing with derision as she explained the excuse Rodolphus had thought up. Oh he thought he had it all covered didn’t he? ”I can’t just let this go. No one is going to believe that!” He turned, exasperated to Sirius, silently asking him ‘what the hell?’ Hailey brought his attention back to her again however. ”No one would say that! Only psychopathic Slytherins who must be compensating for something think like that.” James argued back, anger was easier to deal with than collapsing on the floor and sobbing with her and it made him feel like he was doing something if he was angry. ”No one deserves this.” He made a conscious effort to lower his voice, remembering that screaming and shouting was not going to improve the situation. He stifled a sigh as his eyes cast down on the poor helpless girl before him; he had this overwhelming urge to scoop her up in his arms and take her away somewhere and protect her from the world.
James didn’t know Hailey that well at all but from what he could gather, her life seemed to be pretty messed up. No wonder she bonded so well with Sirius. Personally, he couldn’t relate to this; living in fear. He had a normal life, a good healthy upbringing, apparently one to be envious of though James had thought it nothing special until he had met fractured people like Padfoot and now Hailey. Raising his eyes, he addressed his best mate, ”Is she always this stubborn?” He found himself flinching again. All of these words coming out of this girl, like a desperate cry for help; it cut James right to his very core and he found himself crouching down again. ”I’m always around, Hailey. I know that you know Sirius better than me, but we do sort of come as a pair.” His voice turned light-hearted for a moment, a smile twitching gently on his lips. ”I don’t care if it’s three o’clock in the morning and all you need is one of my amazing jokes. We’ll be there.” That was James for you, always able to show-off, even in a crisis.

Sirius forced himself to sit quietly and listen to the remainder of Hailey’s story, not trusting himself enough to speak. He knew he would be unable to shut up once he opened his mouth, and hence, he remained quiet. As much as he might have wanted to yell and scream himself hoarse at the unfairness of it all, he knew it would only make things worse.
Hailey’s wellbeing had to be his top priority, her safety needing to come before his anger. He could gain his revenge later, shove Rodolphus into a boiler and laugh as he screamed for forgiveness- slowly cut him up, bit by bit, and watch him bleed out over the span of a few days- beat him until his entire body was painted black and blue, then kick him a little while longer for good measure - tie him to a chair and push him down the moving staircase, hexing him as he fell. Oh yes, Sirius would gain his revenge in a manner that would deem him worthy of the name Black. He would take joy in hearing him plead after all, just as his father had taken pleasure in hearing him plead. He would put all those unintentional lessons in dark magic to use, turn them on their head. It was about time the elitist assholes got a taste of their own medicine after all.
So, Sirius remained calm through the brunt of it. He listened as she explained Rudolph’s’ attack on her, the escape. He was able to cap his anger as he heard her talk of writing in blood and running into James- but there was one thing Sirius refused to take in his stride. Marcus. At the mention of the other boy’s name, Sirius visibly tensed. In an instant, he was able to piece together the puzzle that had been Hailey’s distance as of late. This Marcus prick had... well, he had signed his death warrant is what he had done. Biting down on his lip until they were all but dripping red with blood, Sirius averted his eyes. He didn’t want Hailey thinking he was mad at her after all, it was these sick bastards to which he directed his anger. Rodolphus and Marcus...
He wanted them in a grave before the end of the year. And he suspected not a tear would be shed if he succeeded.
”If he’s dead what will it matter if he knows you told or not?” Sirius retorted darkly, an entirely new wave of anger seeming to have overcome him. Responding to James’ with a slight frown and a shake of his head, Sirius shot the boy a look that quite clearly said ‘death to Marcus’. Though he might not have known of any of this before just now, it didn’t make him any less mad. What might have happened, days, weeks, or even months ago angered him just as greatly now as it would have then. How dare he lay his hands on Hailey? And how dare Rodolphus leave her in such a state.
Sirius wanted nothing more than to break down and scream in the middle of the stairwell, to cry for his hailey and drag James off on some destructive spree that would leave half the school turned upside down. And every moment like this left him one step closer to fulfilling his want.
”definitely always been this stubborn” He affirmed, smiling lightly at James’ attempt to lighten the mood. Thankfully for all those involved, his attempts succeeded, and Sirius’ focus was once again drawn to Hailey and her injured. ”And you know I’ll always be there honey” he cooed, nodding along with James, ”I’ve always been there” ”Plus... my jokes are WAY funnier than this ponce’s... AND I know how to heal you” Smirking a little at James, Sirius delved his hand deep into his enchanted pockets, pulling out a salve of some sorts. Extending his hand to the girl like he had so many times before, he could not help but allow his features to soften. There was simply something about Hailey that brought out the softer side in him. Be it her likeness to his own home situation, or her completely polar opposite personality, she made him calmer, better, nicer... just like the marauders did. Where James, Remus and Peter were his brothers, he supposed Hailey was his sister.
”Put this on your burns yeah?” he urged, looking up at his best friend as he passed Hailey a balm of some sorts. The scene felt all too familiar for his liking, the boy having healed Hailey on all too many occasions beforehand. He had always been there for her like that, he had always been there to pick up the broken pieces. It was probably wildly apparent too, to them it was just routine. Sirius would hand her the balm, she would show him the injury, he would mutter whatever healing spell he saw fit... and she would cuddle up to him until she felt better again.
And he hated it. He hated that it had become a routine.
((this has been written on Madie’s phone... I will make it pretty later xD))

----------------------------- The fifteen year old Ravenclaw flinched as James wiped her forehead before realizing that there might still be blood. And here I thought I had most of it off, she thought to herself. But Hailey knew she couldn’t dwell on that simple thing. There were other matters that needed to be dealt with. Matters such as trying to see that the two boys wouldn’t go off and report this to their head of house. Or even worse, to the Headmaster. She didn’t want the whole school to know that Rodolphus Lestrange had succeeded in breaking her. Who knows what kind of things that the brown haired girl would run into next? Her stomach dropped at the thought and let the fear showed in her eyes. She didn’t have to act like everything didn’t bother her. Not in front of these two boys. That was the one thing that, even in her broken state, Hailey liked. She liked that she could be herself around them. Such odd thoughts to be thinking at a time like this, the pureblood thought to herself. Maybe he had broken me much worse than I thought. She was still eying the floor, too afraid to look up at them. She didn’t want to look at their expressions. She feared that they were plotting revenge.
Her eyes widen slightly at his next words. She cringed away from him at his tone, pushing herself against the wall and wishing that she could just melt into it and disappear. That would satisfy a couple of people at least. “Please James. You don’t know what he’s capable of. You don’t know what would come out of it if we had gone to McGonagall or Dumbledore. He’ll make up a whole story and spread it around the school. He would say that the I was asking for it and he had no choice but to.” Her imagination was running wild as she spilled her thoughts to the two Gryffindors. All of her thoughts and fears. The fear that her father would find out and beat her even worse. The fear that her sister would, in order to protect the bloodline, turn away from her when they had always been close. The fear that, made her stomach sink even lower as she realized, Rodolphus would be getting his way with her in the near future. As she finished Hailey sniffed and hastily wiped away the tears. While she wasn’t feeling a lot better she was starting to feel a bit better. She knew that it would take months, maybe even years, for the mental part to heal up.
After all that she had been through Hailey was surprised that she wasn’t in a mental hospital yet. She found it hard to hide a dry snort at James’s next words. “No one ever does. And yet, it seems as if everything has gone bad lately. And try telling that to father or brother the next time you see them and see how they like it.” The Ravenclaw relaxed at the lowered tone to his voice. She now looked at Sirius. Hailey grew quiet as she tried to think of an answer to that question. “Because I already told you Sirius. The next time won’t be too easy and it might involve Marcus. Even if he was dead Marcus would still be able to finish the job.” She blushed when James asked if she was always stubborn. “Stubbornness tends to run in the family. I’m just a bit more stubborn than my brother or sister.” There was something in her eyes as she looked up at James. An odd twinkle of some sorts. She gave him a soft smile. “Thank you James. I…I don’t know what to say.” A small giggle escaped from her lips but her expression turned serious and somewhat sheepish. “I just…don’t want to be a burden to you or Sirius.” Hailey raised her head to look at them with a rather guilty look.
The brown haired girl flushed at Sirius. “I know you are Sirius.” Her small smile grew somewhat bigger as she giggled again. Hailey quieted as she slowly took the salve from him, feeling that she had been in this situation before. And she had. Whenever they came back from breaks the first thing that Hailey had done was search for Sirius. It had always been that way ever since her first year. The year that everything had gone horrible for her. She opened it up and carefully, gently, rubbed it on her hand as she whispered a soft thank you to the two boys. Hailey remembered the first time that he had done this and, it was at this memory, that she raised her head to look at Sirius in the eyes, allowing the fear and emotion showing through them. He would be able to decipher the look in her eyes. He would be able to read her as he always did. A comfortable silence spread between the three students. It was broken up by an occasional sob or a sniffle from Hailey as she let the salve or balm settle. She knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight. She hoped she would be able to sleep tomorrow or the next day. All she needed to do was not to think about what he had put her through. Tagged. James and Sirius <333 Words. 892 Notes. Blahk. it's your tyranny that drives us, ADDS THE FIRE TO OUR FLAMES |
[/div] It never failed to shock James the lengths that some humans would go to, to cause another pain. He just couldn’t understand it. Why would someone even think about inflicting any of this on anyone, let alone actually doing it? It was abhorrent. It made him feel sick to his stomach. Sure, James threw a few hexes at Snivelly because he was jealous that the boy held the brunt of Lily’s attention (until now). But the idea that he would tie him up, push his hand repeatedly into a fire and write horrible words on him in his own blood . . . no, James felt appalled at the idea of actually doing it. Fantasising jokily in his head maybe but carry it out and get some sort of sick rush from it? No way.
The guy obviously didn’t have a conscience. ”I’m going back to that classroom,” James said determinedly, a steely glint in his eye. ”And I’m going to comb it for anything, any evidence that could send him down.” Rodolphus was surely too arrogant for his own good, he must have left something behind. Or was James just getting desperate because he so badly wanted to see some punishment? He was fed up of the purebloods in this school getting away with so much. It was time someone put the pureblood elitists in their place and who better to do that than James Potter and Sirius Black? And it wasn’t just at school where he wanted things to change. It was in the wizarding world as well. He wanted to make a difference and suddenly, James realised what it was he wanted to do when he finished school in two years time; become an auror.
James had to do something. He had a fifteen year old girl sitting in front of him, crying her eyes out and fearing for her life. Now that he knew, James didn’t think it would be possible to pass Lestrange or Peterson in the corridor without at least kicking them in the shins. He couldn’t act like nothing was wrong, not with Hailey so obviously distressed and even though she was begging him not to. He would be looking out for her constantly, probably for the next two years. James was sat on the floor next to her now, also leaning against the wall as Sirius made a good point about it not mattering if these guys were dead, throats slit in their sleep. Though that would be an easy way out and James knew that all manner of torture scenarios were running through Sirius’ mind at this very moment, the look he gave him told him that. ”It’s going to be okay, Hailey.” Because really, what else could he say? ”Sirius and I are going to look out for you. We’ll escort you to every class if needs be. Neither one of those bastards are going near you ever again.”
They weren’t empty words. James knew that he and Sirius would do everything in their power to keep her from even seeing the backs of either one of their heads again. ”I’ll say anything to anybody, I don’t care who they are or who they think they are, if they need telling where to go, I’ll tell them.” James wasn’t really going to piss off Hailey’s father or brother, he did have a little more sense than that because as much as he really would love to tell them to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine, it would be Hailey that suffered the most. But the sentiment was there. And she smiled and let out something that counted as a laugh and James smiled too, ear to ear, warm as he rested his forearms onto his knees. ”It’s not a burden, its good practise for when I become an auror and Sirius is used to following girls around.” Fact, no?
”You are good at healing her.” James said softly, the realisation hitting him that they must have been through this scenario countless times before. ”You got anything for crazy then, Pads? Because you’re obviously losing it if you think your jokes are better than mine.” He only had to look at the expression on his best mate’s face to know that he cared a lot about this girl. He’d never seen him look at any member of the opposite sex like that before. He gave his friend ‘that look’ the small smirk, the slight lift in his eyebrows that said, ‘you like her, don’t you?’ It might not have been the best time to bring it up, but James couldn’t help it. Trying and failing to hide the cheesy grin on his face, he returned to look at Hailey, applying the balm. ”You sure you’re okay with that? I’m sure Sirius wouldn’t mind helping you.” Because what were best mates for but trying to embarrass them in front of girls. Not that James had had much luck at doing that over the years but still, it was always worth a try and he figured it was another shot at lightening the mood and creating a casual atmosphere for Hailey.

TELL ME THAT YOU'VE GOT EVERYTHING YOU WANT&& Y O U R B I R D C A N S I N GBUT YOU DON'T GET ME, YOU DON'T GET ME Where James Potter might not have known what he wanted to do with his life, Sirius Black had always known. As far as he was concerned, the ministry was just as corrupt as the muggle Nazi Party... and that included a large majority of the Auror division. Where James might have seen it as an opportunity to fight back, Sirius knew all too well of the truths behind it. Although many Aurors may still have had the best of intentions, there was no hope for them whilst working under a corrupt ministry. His father had been a part of the wizingot after all, his mother’s uncle having worked as an unspeakable. Pureblood families had the money to protect themselves from the government, the power to manipulate laws how they saw fit. So, whilst many Aurors may have worked to put these pureblood supremacists away, people like his parents continued to pay their way out of trouble.
It was for this reason, among others, that Sirius had always been interested in guerilla movements. Whilst he knew too well money would be scarce, he also knew he could not pledge an allegiance to a ministry that his father could so easily manipulate. Later, once he had joined the Order, he would wonder just how much his cynicism had influenced his life. In all reality, the likeliness of he, Remus and James joining the Order without these ideas were slim. For all Sirius’ hatred of the ministry, he really did want to see the end to this war. He wanted to see the downfall of the Dark Lord- and laws could only get in the way of things. For all his hatred of the ministry, Sirius honestly couldn’t see how much good they were actually doing- how many death eaters they were actually putting behind bars.
He supposed that’s where he and James were different. His best friend had always been a stickler for moral goodness, for helping people and doing the right thing. He was not blinded by this twisted hatred of his family; he was logical and refrained from acting too rashly. Sirius on the other hand, wanted nothing more than for everything to just end. He didn’t care how many death eaters he had to step on to get there. He didn’t care how much danger he put himself in, how long he would have to spend in Askaban. He just wanted it to end.
In some ways, the boy supposed their differences were a good thing; James had always been there to tell him when he’d overstepped the line. He was the one that would stop him from torturing and murdering Rodolphus should it come to that, if only because he wouldn’t want his friend to spend a lifetime in Askaban. Because the truth of the matter was, Sirius could be scary when he wanted to be.
”You’d never be a burden to me” Sirius mumbled quietly in response, face soft despite his apparent anger. He could never be hard with Hailey after all; he could never yell or scream at her. Never, in a million years, could the eldest Black hurt her. ”And it’s like James said, they’re never going to get close enough to finish the job... ” he finished, pulling out a burn salve from his pockets.
Smiling slightly at James’ obvious crack at his dating habits, Sirius could not help but smirk. Later, he would smack his friend upside the head for being such a jerk... but for now, he would simply laugh. ”It’s normally the other way ‘round yeah?” he sniggered, winking, ”but I suppose I can put aside my dignity for a good cause, consider us your new body guards Hails”
Not once allowing his smile to falter, Sirius shot a grin towards James. Soon, his attention was returned to its rightful place... to Hailey. One look at the girl was enough to tell him everything he needed to know, enough to tell him just how scared she really was. ”Crazy can’t be cured Prongsy... I’m afraid you’re stuck with me” He replied offhandedly, eyes fixated on the girl before him. He was worried.
Forcing himself to look away, Sirius could not help but smile slightly at his friend’s expression. He knew exactly what ‘the look’ meant, knew all too well what was running through his best mates mind. Shaking his head slightly at the boy, Sirius sniggered. Whilst he could deny his feelings all he wanted, James Potter knew him inside and out, knew him far too well to be lied to. The boy had caught onto his little crush it seemed... even if he himself hadn’t quite figured it out yet.
”I’m sure Sirius wouldn’t mind planting Moony’s chocolate stash in James’ trunk either” he rebutted, smiling all too innocently towards his friend. tagging James and Hails xDD words somes lyrics your bird can sing by the beatles notes i don't know whether to 'aww' or be utterly terrified by Sirius, also, i've made some assumptions here, feel free to kick me up the butt and ask me to change them credits this was made by brooke !
