Tap. Tap. Tap.
The fingernails on the desk did a rhythmic dance as the small blonde stared blankly ahead, the voice of her History of Magic teacher droning on and on and about some war or another. Normally she was interested in this class, the halfblood child finding a lot of things interesting since she hadn’t grown up in this world, at least not for the most part, but today it had been one of those days where none of her classes were holding her ever flighty attention. Tiredness wrought from boredom flooded her body and she was finding it increasingly difficult to keep her eyes open, eyelids drooping and head resting more weight against the palm of her hand. Her imagination began to take over, assuring that she didn’t actually fall asleep yet effectively forcing her mind to go places other than on her lesson.
“BRIANNA!”
The small blonde started suddenly as a hand slammed down on her desk, her open inkwell wobbling slightly at the force, and her blue eyes looked up at the face of one of fellow Hufflepuff classmates, one hand covering the inkwell before it spilled everywhere. Judging by the light shuffling sound of everyone the class had ended and the students were beginning to put their items away into their bags. Sighing lightly and swallowing tightly, trying to push her heart back into its rightful place in her chest, Brianna began to put her stuff away.
“You are so lucky the professor didn’t see that you were sleeping. If you got any more points knocked off from our house then…”
Brianna rolled her eyes lightly while putting her items away, being careful to tighten the cap on her inkwell as she did so, ignoring the voice of the girl next to her. There were few people who managed to annoy her, but this girl…classmate and housemate of hers…had accomplished the improbability. The best thing for her to do was ignore the voice until it was nothing more than an annoying buzzing in her ears, which would eventually turn to nothingness, just as the teacher’s voice had during the lesson. Finishing putting everything away, Brianna stood and walked out of the classroom while the girl was still talking, ignoring that rise in tone that suggested she was following her. Starting on her way down to lunch her eyebrow twitched when part of her realized that she was still walking after, talking and chastising, and so she turned down a hall and broke into a flat run.
Her small form weaved in and out of the taller students with ease and it didn’t take but a couple of minutes for her to lose the annoying girl back there in the crowd. It was a good thing that Brianna wasn’t particularly hungry since she didn’t have plans on going down to lunch now, and instead she found herself wandering through the mostly empty hallways of the third corridor. She was careful to stay within the limits of where she was allowed to walk, yet at the same time staying out of the sight of any professors or prefects that might also question why she wasn’t at lunch or in class. But wandering could only hold her attention for so long before she was carefully trying doors, finding most of them to be locked.
Finally, after trying a few handles, one gave way and she poked her blonde head in slowly, looking around to make sure she wasn’t going to get into trouble, and then pushed her way in. It was the trophy room, which she had heard plenty about but never actually gone into, and her gaze was immediately drawn to just how shiny and large some of them were. Blue eyes graced over them slowly, absorbing details and reading the plaques at the bottom, even finding a couple with her brother’s name on them ( which made her smile ), before moving onto the next. Her attention was so absorbed on what she was doing that she didn’t hear the door open again.
