Your Sister
The Slytherin table, was as always, full of sharp sneers and whispered insults about the other House's. Reila, and a few choice others passed up the opportunity to join them as was not uncommon. The elder Thomas girl, while intent to crack a smile when it was expected, or required to give her input; did, and did so in a way that left people satisfied enough not to question her loyalties. But for the most part, she ate in silence, ankles locked beneath the table and shoulders tight to her sides, never fond of being surrounded by large masses of people. It was suffocating. Enough so that it prompted her to finish her meal that much faster. Once the spoonfuls of pumpkin soup were shoveled down with a sort of hastened elegance, she set the glinting silver on the table with a gentle so it wouldn't clatter - the table manners that had been drilled into her as a child, never failing to make itself apparent. Dabbing at her lips with the previously unused hankerchief, she rose from her spot, the girl beside her quick to ask where she was going. Reila Thomas gave a casual quirk of the lips, "Library," Was all she said, turning to leave before she was asked to ellaborate. Reila never felt secure with her lies, despite being able to do them so well, and she figured the less she spoke of it, the better.
Departing the chatter of the Great Hall, the corridors were esentially barren and quiet apart from the clatter of her heels against the stone flooring. Glowing red lanterns showered the length of the passage, her shadow dancing at odd angles as she followed the flickering flames down to the moving staircases. The portraits hanging on the walls as she began to clamber upwards were chattering as well, over their own meals, keeping too themselves for the most part until Reila reached the fourth floor where she was left to wait for the staircase to slide into place. "You're a little thin to be skipping dinner, aren't ya?" Reila turned around to stare at the plump old woman in the frame. She had a large black mole on her chin and black hair as curling as a pigs tail. She cast the potrait a cold, but unaffected look, "I've eaten," She responded simply, turning back as she heard the staircase slide in to place behind her. "Have a good evening," She spoke without looking back, her hand finding the rail as she continued her way up the height of the castle, nothing but a simple 'hmph' trailing her. It wasn't until she reached the seventh floor that she exited the hall of the moving staircases, stepping into another long corridor with a window placed at the end of it.
The sun was already setting, the sky tinted an orange hue beneath the sparse clouds. Reila took personal comfort in this, the stiffness that was always somewhat built into her stature, sinking gradually as she reached the end of the hallway. Now that the stresses of being in the company of others no longer placed any weight on her shoulders, she felt secure enough to relax. Which pleased her greatly as her sister would be joining her once she finished her meal. Or so she was hoping. It had been awhile since she'd had the time to spend with her sister out of the eyes of other purebloods, but they were valuable moments to her and she always found herself looking forward to the private moments they had together. As sparse as they felt.
Pulling her fingers back through her silky hair, Reila turned to climb another set of stairs, these ones spirling up into the Astronomy Tower - which remained empty the majority of the time when students weren't using it for their classes. As she reached the old wooden door that opened up into the Tower, she pushed it open, a fresh autumn breeze immediately entangling itself into her hair. She heaved a sigh and walked forward toward the rail, leaving the door ajar behind her. Leaning against it, she looked down onto the grounds, the wind whistling and raking through the trees of the forest and water rippling gentle on the lake. It was a beautiful sight to behold, and one she never grew tired of.

----------------------------- The Great Hall was full of chatter and the clatter of silverware as they hit the plates or the tables. The usual noise was deafening enough. It also made it impossible for one to actually hear themselves thinking. The Ravenclaw Table, in particular, was chatty. Some were quizzing each other over the assignments for the day. Girls were giggling as they were talking about boys or gossiping to one another. A past time that was held with respect to some people. At the far end of the table, a brown haired girl pushed around the last bit of her food on her plate. Hailey Thomas frowned lightly as she looked around the table. Dinner was in full swing and was expecting to last at least several hours. She was impatient. A note had arrived to her in the tower before dinner. Once she had saw that the note was from her sister, the fifteen year old had slid it open eagerly. It seemed that Reila wanted some time alone with her youngest sister. It was the thought that Hailey had appreciated. The two of them were pretty close despite the situation that was apparent in the family manor.
Hailey sighed softly to herself as she ate the last bit and placed her fork down. She slowly raised her head and glanced around at the hall again. Her eyes rested on the Slytherin Table. The one house that she was supposed to be sorted but the sorting hat had other plans for her. Throughout the years at Hogwarts the brown haired girl knew that the hat was right to place her in Ravenclaw. She would not have been a good Slytherin. They would have torn her up and she knew of two Slytherins that would love to take the chance to do that. One was the same age and year as Hailey and the other was a seventh year psycho who had broken her a month ago. At that thought she blinked, rather surprised. Was it really that long ago? It seemed like it was yesterday she had left the hall before dinner was over. It seemed like yesterday that Rodolphus had found her in an empty classroom and tortured her. She shivered at the memory and slowly got up. A few of her housemates looked up with concerns on their faces.
She gave them a small smile, saying that she had some homework to do. They continued to look concerned as she walked out. Of course Hailey was eager to finally spend some time with her sister. Their father had made it somewhat difficult enough with treating the fifteen year old girl like an house elf. Hailey fully appreciated them and made a point to be kind to them. She was always a kind lady. The manners that her mother had taught her at a young age never seemed to vanished completely from her. The least could be said for her new found beliefs. She started hanging around halfbloods and muggleborns. They were considered to be the least worthy. That didn’t stop Hailey from turning her back on her family beliefs. She ran a hand through her hair. The hallways were quiet. Blissfully so since it was still dinner. For the first time Hailey took a deep breath, finally able to hear her thoughts. She shook her head as she made her way through the halls. Her destination, the astronomy tower. It was a gathering spot for the two sisters to meet.
Her pace quickened as her heart started to beat faster. For some reason Hailey was nervous. She let out a nervous laugh. Her eyes glittered with worry. Did she hear about Rodolphus? She thought to herself, biting down on the inside of her cheek. Did she hear about how he broke me? In no time at all Hailey was climbing the stairs and was at the astronomy tower. Hailey often wondered what her sister thought about her. Really thought about her. She shook her head, having trouble hiding a small snort as she blinked, seeing the door to the tower opened and her sister leaning against the rail. Hailey waited for a couple of minutes before slowly walking forward, closing the door gently behind her. She considered locking it but decided against it. “Hey Rei,” She imitated her sister by leaning against the rail. Hailey slowly looked up at her sister. Possibly her favorite sibling. “It’s been a while since we had a chance to talk hasn’t it?” She jammed her hands in her pockets and winced as the fabric pulled against the hand with the pink scars. The one that Rodolphus had forced into the fire. There was a lot of things that she wanted to tell her sister. But she would save that for later. Tagged. Miss Rei <3 Words. 799 Notes. And Reila Thomas was most inclined to be taken by it. It was both breath-taking and relaxing; two things the elder Thomas daughter was rarely given the opportunity to savour. For that reason, she very much wished for time to be capable of freezing, however the changing hue on the horizon and the setting of the sun reminded her that this was not a possible feat on natural grounds. Magic, surely - could pause time. After all the possibilities were endless. But she hadn't a clue how to go about it, or if it was ever actually achieved with any inkling of success prior. So, she lay the thought to rest and simply let the passage of time dip the sun further behind the mountainous region. Taking a long steady breath, she leaned more comfortably against the rail, her ribs resting against it while her arms propped on top of it, hands clasped over the empty space beneath. The Autumn months were quite possibly her favourite, summer always far too warm for her liking and winter always far too cold, while spring encompassed the rebirth of wilderness and to her dismay; bugs. Where Autumn was a time when silence replaced the rowdy buzz, with an inclination to retire in preparation for the cold. And in school terms, it was the time in which the students had finally settled into their new schedules and routines. And if anyone knew Reila, they would know how important something so simple was to her.
Routines kept her grounded. Focused. She wasn't perfect and much of who she was was designed to protect herself from falling prey to who she wasn't; the very person the majority of her House was acquainted with. And sometimes, if stress warranted it, she could feel herself cracking under the strain of falsehood, wishing she could just be the Reila Thomas her sister knew. But as she blinked against the breeze, eyes cast downwards over the grounds, she knew how impossible a desire that was right then. She wasn't as strong as Hailey when it came to dealing with adversity. Perhaps because she was rarely ever in that position to begin with. There was no immunity. And Reila understood, just from watching her sister, what a great deal of internal strength it took to be in her shoes. In a way, she was almost jealous of Hailey, despite knowing better than to be. Reila was the fortunate one. The one who didn't have to deal with the scorn and indoctrinated hatred pit against her. The one who lived a pleasant life and an oddly simple one in comparison. So long as she kept her guard up. But Hailey...
There was a great deal of sadness in her eyes when she thought about her sister so deeply. Of wishes and desires and hopes and dreams. The wish to be able to spend time with her sister properly and the desire to be a proper family. The hope to be treated no differently for it and the dreams where Reila and her younger sister weren't separated by House titles and unjustified claims. Their night-time talks, curled up next to each other in bed, whispering and giggling; was something Reila could only meet with nostalgia and longing. Sure, she and her sister had never relinquished ties the way their father had with his youngest daughter, but Reila was certainly aware of the affect it had had. Her lips flat, Rei settled her shoulders a bit as she sensed her sisters presence, only turning to look at the Ravenclaw Thomas when she settled in along side her. "Hailey," She said with rare gentleness, her eyes softer than usual. "It has," She responded, looking almost sad at the thought. However, catching her sister's wince as she dug her hands into her pockets, her expression hardened.
Pushing herself from the rail, she walked closer to her younger sibling, "Something happened, didn't it?" She said, concern printing into her voice. It wouldn't have been the first time something happened to her sister. Ever since she'd been sorted, she'd been forced to deal with being shunned and in some cases bullied. And Reila knew her sister well enough to know when something wasn't right. Stopping before her sister, she reached out to touch her arm, pulling up her sleeve with the other hand. Just seeing the edge of what looked to be a burn, she looked up at her sister with a mixture of concern and shock, "Hailey. What happened?" She gasped, instinctively wrapping her thin arms around her sister. "Who-?"

----------------------------- The Ravenclaw continued to lean up against the rail, facing her sister. It amused her that they were alike in so many ways, yet different. She longed for the time they had when they were kids. Before the sorting ceremony. Before everything had gone downhill. She knew that the time would come when the strain of life itself would cause a lot of changes to the sisters. They never really spent that much time with each other at home. Reila would be going to pureblood gatherings and Hailey would be stuck at home doing what her father deemed ‘chores’. She couldn’t help but to roll her eyes at the thought. It was more of a ‘earn your keep while you live here’ type of chores. Her sister’s voice brought her out of her thoughts. A rather terrified look spread across her face. The brown haired girl watched her sister weary as she pushed up her sleeve. She winced slightly as Rei wrapped her arms around her. The fifteen year old girl blinked a few times and leaned up against her sister. She opened her mouth to tell her the lame excuse that Rodolphus had told her to use. It came out as the truth. Hailey told her everything. From the moment after she had walked away after they had exchanged glances. The moment that Rodolphus Lestrange had trapped her in the empty classroom.
She could feel herself shaking as she told her about the torture. Her voice was cracking as she got to the point where the fire was involved. When it got closer to the point where he had written the words blood traitor on her forehead in her own blood she chocked up a bit. She didn’t even look at Reila as she told her everything. Her gaze was casted downwards, staring straight at her lap. She was shaking as she also told her about running to the Gryffindor Common Room with James and Sirius. Hailey felt her cheeks blushing at the mention of Sirius. It was quite clear that she had a simple crush on him but she wasn’t that stupid to tell him that. She knew how he behaved, saw a different girl that was his date every week. She knew she did not want that. Hailey took a deep breath as she finally broke the silence that had fallen after her tale. “Rei, please, please, keep this to yourself. I know you want to go back and hurt him. The next time he said that he would do it again, ten times worse and he would drag Marcus in it.” The brown haired girl shuddered at the thought before sighing. “Marcus Peterson. He…he had almost raped me last year.”
Hailey continued to lean against Reila. The scene was so familiar to her that she did not even bother to stop and think about it. The many nights of them curled up and just talking. She missed those days. She also missed the days where she had no secrets to keep from her sister. “Besides, the Professors would notify father and…well, you know how he is. The last thing I need to tell him is that.” There were other thoughts that were running in her mind. Thoughts that worried her about the future. She often worried that Reila would turn her back against her and join the Death Eaters, following in the footsteps of the family name. It was that thought alone that had made tears gathered in the corners of her eyes. She wanted Reila the way she was. She didn’t want the Dark Arts to get her sister. To get into her mind and corrupted her. The thought made her shiver against Reila. Hailey found herself voicing her thoughts. Her eyes glittered with worry. “It’s not only what happened with Rodolphus and Marcus I’m worried about Rei. I’m worried about you. I’m worried that you would….you would turn against what you believed in. I’m worried that you would follow into father’s footsteps as a…as a Death Eater.”
It was those thoughts that had plagued her dreams, turned them into nightmares. Hailey traced an invisible pattern on Rei’s arm. “I’m worried that we would be fighting against each other. As I plan to join the Order when I graduate Hogwarts.” There were other plans that she had in mind that she told no one but a few professors. “I’m mostly worried that your…well, innocence will be lost to the Dark Lord. That you’ll be worried about nothing except killing and torturing. And what if he takes over?” Hailey’s voice was cracking as she shuddered. “I’m a blood traitor. It would be ten times worse for me. I don’t want you to turn into someone like father. I want you to remain the way you are. Away from the darkness and from the Death Eaters.” She took a deep breath. “Although there might be a chance I’m wrong…” Hailey let her voice trailed off. She looked vulnerable. Tagged.
