the ins and outs,Mr Macmillan it’s nice to meet you. That’s an interesting name you have there, care to explain it for us?
Is it? Well Alistair is Scottish to match my heritage and I think Elijah is biblical. Scratch that, I don’t think, I know. It means my God is the Lord.
What about your likes?
winning, competition, reading, learning, socialising, quidditch, dating, parties, my hair, bragging, outdoors, all types of weather, debates, the library (it’s peaceful!) strawberries, romance.
And your dislikes?
rudeness, lateness, being unorganized, not being in control, having to rely on other people, moronsthose that lack intelligence, pranksters, clumsiness, anyone that tries to hurt my sister, anyone that wants to sleep with my sister, being proved wrong (it doesn’t happen very often).
What in life do you fear?
If I'm going to be honest, I fear a number of things. Failure being the big one. I know, I act as if it's impossible for me to fail at anything but I dread that one day it will happen - it's why I take everything seriously and work hard. I also hate clowns. They're creepy, not funny. And blood, I'm not a big fan of that either, even just a few drops from someone's nose bleed makes me feel dizzy and faint.
psyche,
Alistair, can I ask you to describe yourself?
CONTROLLING
You’re asking me to describe myself? We could be here all day. Firstly, I like to have control. It’s not that I necessarily have to be in control of the situation but I like to know that if needs be I can take control (since my way is often the best way). Strange as it may seem, I’m more of a follower than a leader as I prefer to offer my knowledge or guidance to the one in charge and take a back seat. Everything done in a controlled environment produces the highest validity and for me, there is no other way to get the best possible results.
ORGANIZED
This goes hand in hand with control. I like to be organized and know when everything is, where it is, what I’m doing next and so on. I just go a bit crazy if I don’t know. I like to plan and schedule and no one should mess it up. I also like to make lists of what needs doing so that I know I won’t miss anything and as you can probably imagine my school work is all organized neatly under headings and sub-headings with little labels and everything. I know my need to be organized and tidy does border on obsessive but I don’t think it’s a huge problem. For me, it’s a benefit because I know exactly where I am.
INTELLIGENT
You’d think this would be a given considering my house wouldn’t you but I think it’s worth mentioning because you obviously don’t have to live with the section of Ravenclaw house that isn’t as intelligent as they ought to be. Trust me, dumb Ravenclaws exist I’ve seen it firsthand. I know that not everyone is lucky enough to have been gifted with superior intellect (like myself) but if there is one thing I can't stand it’s a Ravenclaw that is more witty than clever.
SARCASTIC
Isn’t this word terribly over-used these days? Everyone likes to see themselves as sarcastic; it seems to be the new cool thing to brand yourself as. Well for me, you can’t say that you are sarcastic if other people haven’t told you so. In fact I think it’s commonly considered that I have a dry sense of humour rather than a sarcastic one. I tend to say things so sardonically that people aren’t sure whether I mean it or not. It means people are unsure of what to make of me if this happens upon first meeting (which it generally does) but quite honestly I don’t even notice I’m doing it. Those who understand my humour are my friends and those that don’t consider me blunt and rather rude. To each his own as they say.
POMPOUS
I say this with a frown because this is what other people have said to me. It’s not a word I’d like to use to describe myself but I suppose it is true. I prefer pretentious though, it sounds more . . . favourable.
SOCIABLE
I have plenty of friends; I’m a laid-back kind of guy. I know I’m not most of the time, but I can be, especially around friends. I’m young and I need to live like I’m young. Yes, be organized and study hard and educate yourself but have fun as well. It’s all about balance and I’m good at balancing so I don’t let myself get worked up over stuff. I’m very fatalistic, whatever will be will be kind of thing. I suppose I can afford to be. No, that’s not very Ravenclaw but it’s the way I am and people like it – they need someone like me in order to balance out the stress levels in the world. I can be quite impatient though, especially with people who aren’t punctual. I hate that. If we agree a time to be somewhere then I expect you there at that time, earlier is fine but not a second later. That really gets on my nerves. And really, it’s quite rude. Rudeness, that’s another thing I can’t stand. It doesn’t hurt to show some respect and give others the time of day. Manners cost nothing. On the flip side, I can be pretty blunt with people, I say it how I see it regardless of who I’m talking to or what the situation. Yes, I’m aware that that is very hypocritical of me. I’m a sea of contradictions. It’s what makes me more advanced than the rest of you.
PUREBLOOD
I was taught that it is a thing of pride to be a pure blood wizard and to uphold that value. It’s not that I’m prejudiced, please don’t think that I am and neither are my parents but we’re very proud to be of pure blood and they, and me as well, would rather it stayed that way. I’m sure if I fell in love with a nice respectable muggleborn that although my family would be disappointed at first, they’d grow to respect my decision. And I have dated half-bloods and muggleborns in the past but I do want to uphold my parents’ wishes.
the quotes,
The following are all quotes from your fellow students, please comment on them with your opinion . . . I’m sure you’ll relish the chance to have your input . . .
”Don’t talk to me about Alistair; I’m still waiting for him to owl me back.”
So I like to sleep with women on the first date and then blow them off. You can call me every horrible name under the sun; I don't care. It’s not my fault girls just seem to fall into my bed and they seem to think that I’ll want a relationship with them. No, I don’t, especially not with the ones who will let me take advantage of them on the first night. I’m not looking for a girl like that, (of course I’m not going to say no) I want a relationship, of course I do, but with someone who has integrity, who stands up for herself and who isn’t afraid to stand up to me.
”He’s a pretentious, arrogant prat.”
I’m not going to disagree. I’m better than you. It’s as simple as that. And if you want an easy life, then you’d better not argue with me. Incorrigible, argumentative, decisive, annoyingly persistent – all of those words have been used to describe me at some point in the past. I admit it, I don’t know how to back down from an argument, and I’m certainly not going to admit that I’m wrong. I’m a competitive, winning junkie. There I said it. I also have this magnificent ability to wind people up. Apparently people don’t understand my witty banter, apparently I’m too blunt for them and their poor little minds can’t take my snide remarks. I can’t help it; the sarcastic comments just fall out! I guess it’s a good thing I can talk people into submission otherwise I wouldn’t have any friends.
”He’s too damn clever for his own good.”
You say that like I rub my advanced levels of intelligence into your face. Oh wait, that’s right . . . that’s because I do. I told you before, I’m better than you. Deal with it already.
family,
do you have brothers and sisters?
I am the eldest and the only boy. I have one sister, Daphne, she’s a year younger than me and I’m very protective of her. She thinks overly so but as her brother I see it as my duty to look after her and make sure that she’s alright. And that includes scrutinising and running background checks on every boy that wants to so much as look at her. I don’t know why you’re looking at me like that I love my sister very much and she deserves the best and only the best. We’re very close and I’m extremely proud of her even if we have rather different outlooks from time to time. She’s family and my only sibling and well, like I said, we’re close.
What about your childhood?
The usual really. Well, in this day and age, with so many dysfunctional and broken families, maybe it’s not usual but idealistic. We’re a pureblood family, two loving parents, two loving children living in the Scottish countryside, the white picket fence included. I spent my days outside (when the weather decided to play fair) wandering about looking for a good spot to sit and read whilst my sister went off acting out her wild fantasies. I used to tag along with that too until I started school and decided that broadening my knowledge was the best thing for me to do. Still, I loved to be outdoors as did my sister so it meant we were always close by.
Nothing went particularly wrong, the odd dispute here and there but overall we’re pretty ordinary. It’s the way I like it and I know I’m better for it. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have anything different to this and quite frankly, I don’t want to know. I’m happy with the way things are and I’d much prefer that they stay this way.
