The lovely month of September was a huge red flag that school was beginning for every teenager. Unlike many of her friends Amelia had a fondness for the hall of Hogwarts and the camaraderie between friends. Of course she missed her family, but in the end she loved being in a place where she could advance and learn new things. Some of her housemates thought she was absolutely bonkers for loving school, and perhaps it was a bit on the weird side of things, but in her mind it all made sense. School was the bridge from childhood to being on your own, and frankly Amelia could not wait to make a name for herself. Hogwarts was a necessary link to the most exciting chapter of life. Sometimes she questioned whether or not the sorting hat had placed her in the right house. Sure she was humble and loyal, but she took pride in being intelligent and determined to be the best academically. Weren't those generally traits of the Ravenclaw House?
Labels didn't really mean much to her, and that was what house titles were. Throughout the years she had realized that being in the Hufflepuff House did not mean she had to act like one; most of the time she did not. She also liked that her whole family consisted of Hufflepuffs. It was one of the reasons she didn't mind being in the house (and she could spy on her two younger siblings like a good older sister!) Denying she didn't do just that would be a flat out lie, and Amelia was certainly not one to tell a lie. Right now, however, she was not spying on them; she was sitting in the courtyard relaxing and reading a good muggle book.
Amelia loved to read muggle literature even though she knew it wasn't all that wise to read such things with proud purebloods roaming around. There was a certain streak of defiance in her, and her desire to not conform was intense. Often this put her in very interesting circumstances, but in a strange way she loved being in them. She actually welcomed them every so often. Being able to tell purebloods why she was right and they were wrong was very fulfilling even if she was sent to the hospital wing for a broken bone.
Today she was not looking for a moment to preach (surprisingly.) Her intentions today were innocent, and she was reading simply to pass the time. Amelia was waiting for Molly Prewett. To say the two were best friends was an understatement; they were practically sisters. The moment they met each other that first year of Hogwarts they connected and have managed to remain very good friends ever since. Whenever they went out of the castle shopkeepers and people on the streets sometimes mistook them for being related because they looked so much alike. Amelia sported vibrant red hair as did her good friend. Living in muggle London most of the time was hard because she never got to see her friends, and today was actually the first time since last year she'd seen Molly. Mia was very excited to catch up on all the latest gossip her friend would have to bring her.
