It had all been a big mistake, a huge error and it was rather..... embarrassing to say the least. Luke had been practicing charms in class, it was all going great! At least until it was turn to demonstrate his progress.
"Go on Mr. Denmark!" Professor Flitwick said, looking straight up at him, the poor guy. "You've had all week to practice. You can do it."
Luke nodded, seriously doubting he could do it all. A locomotor charm was hard! Much too hard. It wasn't from lack of concentrating either. He knew how to focus, but it was just.....so....hard! "Locomotor pillow!" He cried, but the pillow didn't budge. Everyone else had gotten control of it, but not him.
"Try again."
And Luke did, except instead of going where he wanted, or even wanted a chair flew into the air and flew across the room, missing the Professor's head by inches, actually ruffling his hair as it passed.
".....I think you would do well with....some extra help." Flitwick said, moving away from Luke, who was blushing furiously. "Miss Evans? Would you assist him?"
And so, it was an hour later that the class was emptied out, and Luke was left standing there with Lily. Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair "I don't see why I have....so much trouble with all this!" He complained, embarrassed about the entire situation. It was common knowledge that charms and transfiguration were his two worst subjects. "Everyone else got it, even Sirius and James and.... and they're just as bad at this as I am!" his hand jumped to the flute necklace, slowly stroking it as he started to pace.
This was embarrassing! Why did it have to be Lily who taught him? She'd surely think he was a fool. A failure, an incompetent idiot who couldn't do a simple charm. Sighing, he stopped and looked back and Lily. "Okay." He said, "Let's....get this started."
And so they did, but no matter what pointers Lily gave Luke, he still couldn't get it! The more frustrated he grew, the more likely he was to send his objects off in any direction except the one he wanted them to go. Scowling he sat down hard in a chair, he hated to give up but.....it just seemed....hopeless!
"Dammit." He growled under his breath, drumming his fingers on the table top. "Lily.....look.....this is taking forever. I'm sure you have much better things to do than sit around an try and teach me something I just can't.....can't do!" he wasn't happy at all, he was embarrassed, annoyed and angry, not a very good combo at all. He sighed again and shook his head, stroking his necklace once more.
"Lily.....I just don't get it. What am I doing wrong?" He asked, trying to keep himself calm, but the strain was obvious in his tone. "I don't want to quit....I hate to quit but....but we've been at this forever! I just don't see how else you can help me!"

--------------------------------I think I'm falling in love with you My heart is beating faster than I want it to--------------------------------- Charms class. The only class that was considered noisy enough to hold a conversation and not being worried about being overheard. Although this time, it sounded like Flitwick was testing everyone one by one instead as a whole class. There were grumbles about it. To one, Lily Evans she did not mind at all. It meant that she could focus on something other than the apparent going ons that had happened the past few weeks. She started to bit down on her lower lip as she remembered James. A twinge of embarrassment was there as she had started to cry in front of him. Oh Merlin. This first month wasn’t going well at all. She angrily flicked her wand at the pillow. It flopped over and decided to stay put. Calm down, she told herself silently. Calm down and focus. She took a deep breath and flicked her wand again. It worked! There was a slight smile on her face as she did it a couple more times before she decided to call it quits. The Professor had decided to move on to another student. Lily watched Luke as he did the Locomotor Charm several times. There was a thoughtful look on her face as she continued to watch him.
She was startled when Flitwick had asked if she would help him. “Of course Professor," The sixth year answered completely without hesitation. That hour seemed to have gone by as the students were already gone. Lily frowned listening to him speak. “To some people it comes naturally. Others might have to work harder to get better at different subjects. It was the same way with me in muggle primary school. Before I found out that I had magic."She started to run a hand through her hair. It was always a habit of hers whenever she was thinking about something. A flash of annoyance went through her eyes at the mention of Sirius and James. She really did not want to think about them right now. She focused all of her attention on the problem at hand. “You know what they say. Practice makes perfect.” Lily told him kindly and nodded. “Let’s see what you can do.” Whenever he was doing something the red haired girl was giving him pointers. Helpful hints to make the pillow move. His stance, his grip with the wand and she even told him to empty out his thoughts. “That may sound silly but it always works with me whenever I have something else on my mind.”
“Just take a deep breath in and breath out. And focus on what you want. You might end up getting it that way.” She raised an eyebrow and shook her head. Try as she might Lily could not think of anywhere she wanted to be right now other than helping her fellow classmate. “I’ll be here with you as long as you need to Luke,” She promised him. Anything to help keep my mind off the Marauders, she thought but she wouldn’t dare say it. “We already worked on your stance and your grip. Maybe you’re not believing that you can do this. You really must think that this is what you want.” For the first time talking with him, Lily sounded stern. “You can’t give up. I’m sure that you want this more than anything. Let’s get to it,” She really didn’t give him any room for self doubt. [/blockquote] Tagged!? Lukeeee Words!? 572 Notes!? I apologize for the lateness! Let me know if anything needs to be changed. He was becoming more and more frustrated as the tutoring wore on, his stance had been adjusted and his grip had too....but still....still it wasn't enough! Luke listened to Lily and then, it hit him like a ton of bricks. "What I want?" He repeated, stunned that he hadn't thought of it before. The boy laughed, shaking his head. "That's my problem." He said "Motivation. It's like when I train."
He crossed the room, going to the pillow and tossing it aside. "I don't want this. I couldn't care less about this pillow. So, I don't see any reason to summon it, therefore I'm not doing the spell right." He explained, undoing the clasp of the chain and removing his necklace. He held it up, the wooden flute swinging slightly. "I could summon this no problem. I want this." and he put it down in place of the pillow then stood back where he'd been standing for the better part of an hour.
Sighing he closed his eyes and breathed slowly in and then out and when he opened them again, his blue eyes were alight with determination. He was going to do this! He had to. He waved the wand, "Accio flute!" He cried and sure enough, the instrument flew across the room and landed in his other hand.
"YES!" Luke whooped, celebrating with a back flip and then as he landed, he ran to Lily and hugged her, not too tightly but firmly enough that it could be called a bear hug. He stepped back smiling, and as usual, it made the long scar on his face seem a little less frightening. "Thank you!" He said grinning from ear to ear.
Backing up again he put the flute in a different spot, "Maybe that's why I can't do Transfiguration all that well either." He said thoughtfully, "I mean....Severus once told me it was weird that I was the reverse of everyone. Meaning, I was good at the hard stuff and bad at the basics. I always thought that maybe I had a little squib in me or something but .....maybe I don't. Maybe my only problem is motivation or ....I don't know.....and I don't care." He added, "I really don't want to quit trying....I've never allowed myself to quit before when I was training so....why quit at magic?" he asked and sat down,
"But, taking a break isn't the same as quitting. Now that I've figured out how to summon my flute necklace, I can summon other things. I just have to want it." And he leaned back against the wall, a smile still on his face.

--------------------------------I think I'm falling in love with you My heart is beating faster than I want it to--------------------------------- The corners of her lips twitched upwards into a small smile. “That’s all you got to do when it comes down to your school work. Especially your worst subjects. Motivation is hard when you are doing it by yourself and need the help.” Lily was speaking from experience. While she was a natural at some subjects, like Charms and Potions, she had to work extra hard in Transfiguration and History of Magic. She was working extra hard in all of her classes now that she was a sixth year. If she wanted that St. Mungo’s career she would have to excel. Oh Merlin did that put a lot of pressure on the red haired girl. “We can set up a tutoring schedule with you to help you get better at Charms if you want.” Lily had decided to ask him rather than set up everything herself. She had found out that some people didn’t want the help and so she left it at that.
“Maybe find a time where we’re both not doing anything? Maybe say away from the Common Room and away from the idiot Potter who-” She stopped dead in her tracks as her cheeks turned crimson. She could not believe that she had actually said that out loud and to one of the few people that she could trust. Lily quickly backtracked. “Never mind what I said there,” she told him hastily. Lucky for her, Luke was speaking. She smiled. “We’re going to have to learn how to summon things we don’t want Luke.” Uh oh. The good old teaching voice was coming out of her mouth. And once it was out there was no stopping it. Some people had often commented on the fact that Lily should become a Hogwarts teacher.
The idea was certainly laughable but it really wasn’t for sure. She pulled her mind to the current situation and quirked an eyebrow as he took off the necklace. She had always admired the flute. Lily watched as he shouted the summon charm and to her great surprise it had done just that. The red haired girl laughed as she hugged him back. Her eyes were twinkling. “Anytime,” she told him, still laughing. “Anytime Luke.” She listened to what he had to say and frowned a little. “That could be the possibility. Not everyone has their natural subjects.” She looked at him in complete surprise. “You still talk to Severus?” The question was out of her mouth before she could stop it and winced. Lily was the last person to tell people who they can and who they cannot hang out with. She thought she had ran out of hurt feelings. Not a time to be thinking about that now, she thought to herself.
“Everyone has different abilities when it comes to magic,” Lily had found that out in her second year. That and she had done some research herself. “Maybe you need to think about magic the same way you think of the training.” She looked up at him with a small smile. [/blockquote] Tagged!?
