hands shaky, she reached down to the vanity table and picked up a pair of pearl diamond earrings that her mother had bestowed upon her for her big day. the earrings had belonged to her mother, and her grandmother before that. she tried as gracefully as possible to slip the earrings through the hole in her ear and clasp the backing on them. her hands finished their task, she dropped them to her lap, along with her eye gaze. her nails were done in a french manicure and the lace fabric underneath was all part of a dress specifically designed for her. and it fit her like a glove.
she couldn't believe this was it. the day she had been looking forward to and counting down to for months. june twenty-first was finally here. aralynn smiled not being able to control how happy she was about today. today was in her wedding day. after today she no longer would be the famous aralynn nott. instead, she would bear the mulciber name.
aralynn chantelle mulciber.
the name rolled over in her head hundreds of time like a song playing on repeat. but this was one song aralynn was not going to get tired of. aralynn mulciber. she was finally marrying the man she had fallen in love with in her final year at hogwarts. it had been a long road to get here, but she had found the love of her life, no matter how strange the beginnings to their relationship were. and then there was overcoming obstacles of distance and not being at school the same time, because aralynn was a year older than him. then there were the problems with her father and the arranged marriage. thankfully, everything had worked out and her father finally realized aralynn knew what was best for her, and embraced his new future son-in-law with the zealous he lacked at the beginning.
her father was waiting outside for her. the thought penetrated her thoughts abruptly and she felt the rising of her heartbeat. there was nothing more to do. the day had been planned, arrangements made, and now all she had do to was walk down that aisle. the aisle that anthony would be standing at the end of, waiting to take her as his wife. she breathed one deep breath, nodding to herself as if confirming she was alright and ready to do this.
pushing the chair out slightly, she stood, the dress falling to the ground around her and heart seemingly to fall into her stomach. she still had butterflies after all this time, and she lightly touched her stomach in affection for those butterflies. how on earth had anthony mulciber broken through to aralynn. how had he been the one to make aralynn re-evaluate the way she was living life and re-evaluate who deserved her in a relationship. she was only seventeen when he had come into her life in full force, and now at twenty-two she could barely contain her joy of spending the rest of her life with him.
she walked to the door, her peek-a-boo white heels sparkling on her feet. she wasn't afraid of falling. she had been walking in heels for years. she wasn't afraid of falling or tripping. she was ready and the excitement was building inside of her. cautiously, she opened the double doors of her dressing room. there, just outside the door her father sat, waiting patiently. he turned and saw aralynn, face lifting and a smile spreading across his face, though the threat of tears welling in his eyes beginning to show. aralynn smiled largely back to her father and walked to him as he stood, holding his arm for her to take. her father didn't like showing his emotions, but he had always been proud of his children. aralynn was the first to wed, and she couldn't imagine how he felt about his first little girl walking down the aisle. she took his arm, and kissed him lightly on the cheek. "thanks daddy," she spoke, eyes then going to meet his, "i couldn't have done this day without you." the weight of those words were heavy as they knew the turmoil they had encountered before getting to this day. she was so thankful her father finally saw that it was anthony who was the one to make aralynn happy. he was the only one for her.
her father clasped his hand over aralynn's and responded warmly, "i wouldn't have wanted you to either." there was a moment of comfortable silence between the father and daughter, almost a silent way of acceptance and love and aralynn felt her heart tighten. she would not cry yet. not before she even got out to see the groom. "shall we be on our way?" her father asked and she nodded, taking another full breath of air. her father led the way to the back of the elegant church where her bridesmaids were waiting and she could faintly hear music playing in the background.
that was one thing in which being a wealthy pureblood came in handy. no expense was spared for her day, and though she and anthony put in most of the money themselves, their families, hers in particular, had wanted to shower the couple with gifts and money. aralynn knew what she would be walking into. the church was splendid, the flower arrangements white and red just the way she had seen them in her dreams, and a church filled with hundreds of people.
as her father and her turned the corner, she saw where her sister alexandria, and best friend mika waited for her in their long, strapless, dark red bridesmaid dresses. they matched the flowers perfectly and fell from the two blonde women beautifully. when they say aralynn they both strided over to her, squeezing her hands and smiling excitement. they had been there for aralynn through thick and thin and she was so thankful they were here today to celebrate beside her.
the music started up and aralynn knew there was no going back. only forward. and she wanted to run down the aisle to start a life with anthony. she reminded herself to breath once more as she felt the butterflies in her stomach. mika and alex both hugged her tight as they handed her the bouquet and soon there after began walking down the aisle. aralynn stood still for a moment, wanting to remember this moment for the rest of her life. her father's arm in hers, she turned the corner to begin to walk down the aisle, and immediately her eyes fell on anthony and her breath caught in her throat. she walked slowly down the aisle, not seeing anyone around her except the man who was staring back at her, smile spread across her lips. as they reached the end of the aisle her father handed her over to anthony and aralynn took his hand, feeling the familiar touch and sparks as their flesh touched. her eyes reached to his, her lips mouthing the words she had only ever said to him before, 'i love you'.

she had gone to her office to record down several observations she had made and to finish tedious paperwork the ministry required their department to do. aralynn had always enjoyed learning and enjoyed working on projects, but doing pointless paperwork was something she had never understood. but it was all procedure they had clearly stated, and aralynn guessed it was better to have records of everything than not and miss something crucial. she had managed to get through most of the paperwork without her mind being too distracted, but she couldn't focus any longer and decided to take a break, mulling at her window and watching as the rain soaked up the ground beneath it. she only imagined the coldness of the rain, seeing that it was october and the winds had begun to change, blowing harsher winds their way. she gazed out the window, her mind racing with thoughts and questions, the main one stirring hope and anxiety within her belly.
aralynn was late. she hadn't had her period this month and she was almost two weeks late. at first she had accounted it down to stress. perhaps she had been more stressed out than she thought about work, her body taking the brunt of it. but now she wasn't too positive that it was stress. something in the back of her mind was nudging her to realize the truth. and that possibility was all she could focus on.
she hadn't told anthony yet. he worked at the ministry of magic as well as her, just in the department of law enforcement. if aralynn hadn't gotten into the department of mysteries she supposed she would have opted for law enforcement. she was good at persuasion and manipulation and had never had a problem getting people to see her way. anthony was good at it as well. in fact, aralynn thought he was great, though she was biased. they had been married for just over two years and aralynn couldn't have been happier. sure they had their arguments and disagreements, but as far as aralynn was concerned, they had gone through the roughest patch when they were younger and were stronger for it. nothing could tear them apart.
they had moved into the mulciber manor after they were married, and aralynn was thankful that the life she had grown up in was still the life she was going to be able to lead with anthony by her side. the manor was a large place, with lots of extra bedrooms and house elves to serve when needed. it was big and sometimes aralynn felt the home was missing more people when she was alone. but she had loved decorating the building and continuously enjoyed having dinner parties in the large dining room. she really did have all she had ever wanted. well, almost everything.
she hadn't told anthony she was late yet. she didn't want him to worry, or get his hopes up. in fact, aralynn wasn't really sure how he was going to act if the reason why she was late was because she was pregnant. they had talked about wanting children, but they hadn't really talked about when. this wasn't planned, but aralynn couldn't help the excitement that was beginning to bloom inside her if she really was pregnant. she needed to get home and find out. she needed to take that pregnancy test she had bought yesterday and hide in the back of her underwear drawer. she couldn't stand the thought of not being sure any longer. making the decision, she decided she would knock off work a little early. she told the receptionist hilary she had come down with a migraine and would be heading home for the day. it was already 3 o'clock, so she was only leaving an hour before normal. anthony would be home then, so she had an hour.
when she got home, she immediately went to the bedroom, her heart quickening with each step towards that dresser drawer. deciding to let emotions go, as hard as that was, she was not going to be scared nor excited. all she needed to do was figure out the truth and settle her mind. was she pregnant or not? it was a simple question, but the answer could change her life forever. ripping open the box, she headed for the bathroom. this was it. just do it, she told herself and nodded, encouraging herself to push forward. she took a deep breath and got it over with.
then, she waited.
those sixty seconds of her life seemed to be the slowest sixty seconds she had ever watched tick by on the clock. as she waited, sitting on the edge of their tub, thoughts and possibilities swam through her mind. images of the life that she had and the life she could have were playing in her head. she imagined holding a baby, big green eyes and a mop of brown hair on its tiny head. she imagined anthony holding the child, and the three of them being so happy and such a perfect little family. but then was that what anthony wanted now? aralynn would have to give up her job at least for a while, while being pregnant and afterwards. aralynn wanted to be a good mother. she wanted to spend that time with her kids. would she give up her job to stay home for them? that was something she hadn't really considered before. would anthony be alright being the sole worker? not that they really had anything to worry about. both of their families were wealthy beyond their belief. but did anthony want children yet? was he ready to be a dad?
but then again, she might not even be pregnant. this thought disappointed aralynn and she felt her heart sink to her stomach with the doubt. would she tell anthony she had thought she was pregnant? how would he have reacted? relieved? disappointed? would they try for a baby soon if she wasn't already pregnant? all these questions circled in her mind.
the clocked ticked sixty seconds and aralynn's breath was caught in her throat. this was it.
her hands a little shaky, her eyes unsure of what they wanted to see, she gazed down at the pregnancy test stick in her hands. in the spot where the indication would show was a blue bar. aralynn's mind raced to process. 'blue bar? what does blue bar mean? blue bar means pregnant. i'm pregnant? i'm pregnant!' aralynn let out a shriek of joy. she was pregnant! she couldn't contain the happiness that was exuberating was her. she clasped her hand to her mouth, the shock and delight casing a wide spread grin on her face. she was pregnant!
just then she heard anthony's voice coming from downstairs. startled, she quickly rose to her feet, unsure over what to do next. she looked at the clock. it was only three thirty. he must have gotten off early! aralynn froze for a moment, indecisive as to what to do with the pregnancy test and what to do with herself. she set the pregnancy test down on the counter and ran out to the bedroom just as anthony was coming into it. he looked her up and down, worry seemed to be written on his face. 'hilary must have told him i went home sick,' aralynn thought, 'that's why he's home so early.'
"hey," aralynn said aloud, probably too eagerly. "you're home early." alright, so currently her head was in the clouds and she wasn't being the most graceful with her words. she had barely had enough time to process she was pregnant herself, and now here was anthony and she needed to tell him. she wasn't think about anything negative anymore. she was excited and thrilled, and now that she had discovered she truly was pregnant, the thought of anthony not being accepting of it didn't even cross her mind. "i'm not sick anthony," she spoke, eyes and lips beaming as she stepped forward to take hold of anthony's hands. "i'm pregnant."

----------------------------- Anthony took a deep breath as he stared at himself in the mirror. He tugged down on the tux, making sure that there were no wrinkles or anything like that. He wanted to look good. He wanted to be sure that everything was going good for today. The day that would forever be in his mind. The day that he would finally take a woman who he had been pursing ever since his sixth year at Hogwarts. Anthony could not help but to chuckle at the memories. Those days were rough when he was in his seventh year. The two of them had to deal with the fact that Aralynn could not be there anymore. There was distance issues as well as other things. The black haired boy was very tempted to return to his sleazy behavior. Someone had talked that out of him. He was in a committed relationship. He had to stay strong, not for himself but for her. James had rarely approved of this relationship but the truth was Anthony could not care less. He had cut the line a long time ago. That damn bastard, he thought to himself, scowling a little in the mirror. The door creaked open and the hairs on his neck stood straight up. Well, well, speak of the devil himself and he should appear, he thought dryly as he slowly turned to look at his father. It was a miracle that James wasn’t drunk yet. Oh, wait until the reception begins, he thought darkly as he glowered at his father.
James chuckled. “Relax boy. You’re doing well enough. And that woman is far too beautiful….” The twenty one year old had to bite back a snarl as he continued to glower at him. His hand twitched, wanting nothing better to do than to smack him. Or kill him. Whichever one usually comes first. The bastard had the gall to say that about my wife. It was a hard time to get his emotions under control. His hand twitched again as he turned around. James was watching him closely. Anthony continued to bite down on the inside of his cheek. I must not lash out. I must not lash out. He repeated the mantra for several minutes. It seemed to have done the trick. James chuckled darkly as he walked out. Anthony followed, glowering darkly at his back. He just stared at the scene that had waited for him at the back of the church. He took in a sharp breath. It was all…..words could not describe the emotions that he was feeling. Words could not simply describe the absolutely beautiful breathtaking scene. He glanced up at Theodore Nott, who was the best man. Anthony could feel his lip curling as he loathed the man but knew it wouldn’t do any good to cause a scene today. After all he had promised his Aralynn that he would be on his best behavior. He thought back to the wedding planning. A look of amusement spread across his face.
He could consider himself lucky that he was a pureblood. It certainly had its benefits. The two couple had come up with most of the money themselves. James had certainly surprised Anthony with coming up for half as well as Aralynn’s family. The black haired boy had collected himself as the music started to play. He saw Alexandria and Mika walking down the aisle and couldn’t help but to smirk at Alex. It was really because of her that he had gotten together with her sister. He fondly remembered the times that Aralynn had tracked him down, demanding to know why he wasn’t interested. The blazing look in her eyes would forever be in his memories. The music then started to play. This was it. Anthony took a deep breath as he straighten his posture. His eyes glued straight ahead. He breathed in deeply as Aralynn came around the corner with her father. She was a sight to behold. A smile played across his lips as his eyes twinkled brightly. He couldn’t wait to get her alone later on. The black haired boy nodded to Mr. Nott as he gripped her hand. He could barely here the priest talking as he mouthed back, ‘I love you more. Forever.’
*~* Anthony stretched out in his office at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. He was supposed to be reading a letter that he was going to send to the head but his eyes held that glossy, faraway look. He ran a hand through his hair. A lot of things were on his mind lately. His father had died two months ago. During the funeral he was overcome with emotions. Happy, regret, fear. Happy that his ‘father’, for a lack of a better word, had died. He was happy that he wouldn’t be going through one of James’s drunken moments. Once those thoughts had entered his mind Anthony immediately felt regret. This was the man who had helped deliver him. Who had shown him so much. Anthony vowed to be a better father than James ever was. The black haired man shook his head at himself. He tried to focus his attention on other things. The fact that he was at twenty four years old and he was climbing up the ladder at the ministry. He was still a wealthy pureblood who was married to a beautiful woman. What was next for him? Children? There was still a chance for that to happen. He couldn’t count the number of times that him and Aralynn had stayed up late discussing the idea of being a small family. The small family that Anthony didn’t have the chance to experience during his childhood.
He wanted to have a boy and a girl. Two children and that was it. As long as their first born was a boy he would be alright. Amusement showed in his eyes as he drummed his fingers on his desk. Anthony had somehow survived without being a Death Eater. Lord Voldemort was defeated by only a mere baby boy two years ago. Thank Merlin both of them managed to get out of being arrested. He breathed out a sigh as he glanced at the half-finished letter. The door opened and he snapped his head up, narrowing his eyes. The look changed to one of concern as he recognized the woman as Aralynn’s assistant. He frowned when she had told him that Aralynn had gone home early. “Thank you for telling me.” Anthony told her. She just smiled as she left. He leaned back in his chair, a worried look in his eyes. He pulled out his watch and eyed the time. It was two hours before he was due to get off but he figured he could get out early. He was concerned about his wife. Getting up, Anthony made sure that his things were put away. Anthony stuck his head in Charles’s office. “Sir? May I have a moment?” Charles, the head of the department, looked up, annoyed but relieved when he saw who it was. “Yes Mr. Mulciber. Is something wrong?”
The twenty four year old frowned. “It’s my wife. She got off work early and I’m worried she might be sick. I know it’s two hours early but I’ll make those up next week. The letter is half finished but I can work on that at home and send it by owl.” Anthony watched him, anxious. At last Charles smiled. “Your wife is important. You have my permission to leave.” He sighed in relief. “Thank you sir.” In no time at all he was walking through the front door at the manor, frowning in concern. “Aralynn!” He shouted as he laid his cloak on one of the couches. “Aralynn! Where are you!?” Panicked rose in him. He wasn’t ready to lose her. Anthony breathed a sigh of relief as he saw her coming down the stairs and couldn’t help but to smirk. “Charles gave me permission to go home. I told him I’ll make up the two hours for next week. Are you sick?” Her next sentence, however, made his mouth dropped open in shock. Pregnant. She’s pregnant? We’re going to have….”Aralynn!” The next thing he knew he was pulling her in his arms, holding her tightly. You don’t know how I feel hearing those words. I am excited beyond belief. I know I can be a better father than James was.” [/size] Tagged. Aralynn Words. 1408 Notes. Gah! I am so so sorry for the lateness hun! Let me know if you need anything changed! Credits. as he spoke into her ear about how happy he was and how much better a father he knew he would be than his own, she squeezed him tightly. she knew without a doubt that anthony would be a wonderful father. his own father james and anthony had never really gotten along, and aralynn cold understand why when anthony told her all about his past when they began dating. even when aralynn met james, she wasn't that impressed, but maintained that he was to be treated with respect, even if after the engagement, her own family wasn't too fond of him. but aralynn was polite enough and held strong to anthony's side for his support, knowing what his father had done to him. her allegiance fell towards anthony, not james. and when he had died a couple months ago, aralynn had mixed feelings about the whole thing. and now thinking about what a contradiction anthony wanted to be, a bitter part of her was glad he wouldn't be around to see his grandchildren. she kissed anthony's cheek, holding him tightly, "i know you'll be a wonderful father anthony."
pulling away from anthony, she looks at him, finally able to catch her breath now and smiles to him. "i'm so glad you're happy. i was so nervous you wouldn't be excited, because, well, this wasn't exactly planned." aralynn shrewd her face slightly, a part of her unsure how the pregnancy could have happened, or when, but another part of her thankful for whatever mistake allowed her this blessing. her and anthony hadn't planned for children right now, but there was no reason why they couldn't have happily welcomed children into the world right now. they were financially very well off, and aralynn was almost twenty-five. they were mature and ready to do this. at least, aralynn felt like they were ready to do this.
"oh my gosh. i'm pregnant." the realization finally set in and aralynn clasped her hand to her mouth once more. the happiness bubbling inside of her was too much. this was crazy. they were pregnant! "we're pregnant!" she exclaimed loudly not afraid of acting silly and jumping slightly in the air. "we're pregnant!" she repeated. "i can't believe this, but we're pregnant! we're going to have a baby. a baby!" aralynn couldn't help how much joy was flowing from her anymore. the realization that there was a life growing inside of her had made her simply burst with silliness and exhilaration. she threw herself at anthony again, wrapping her arms around him and planting a kiss upon his lips. the kiss was filled with passion as she couldn't help but feel the love for him as she did so.
pulling away from him thoughts began to erupt through her head, and she vocalized them to anthony, knowing it would be better to keep him on the same page, even if her mind was going so fast. "we need to tell our friends and family. should we have a party to announce it? i don't know if i'm going to be able to keep it a secret for very long. oh, do you think it will be a boy or a girl? what should we name it?" all these thoughts popped into her head and she couldn't help but feel obnoxious for it. what was she thinking? she had nine months to figure a lot of this out, and for one thing, she didn't want to find out beforehand whether it was a boy or a girl. though that would make things slightly more difficult for decorating the new nursery. a nursery! they were going to have to transform one of the rooms into a nursery.
she thought about telling her family, telling the small amount of anthony's family that they were close with, telling their friends. this called for a special occasion. they would probably have to throw a party and then she would be able to announce it to everyone at once, not making several phone calls. this was so wonderful. absolutely wonderful.
as she calmed herself down, she placed her hands on the sides of anthony's face, taking in the features and lines of his face. admiring his beautiful eyes and kissable lips. she stroked his face with her thumbs, the weight of the situation hitting her in a good way. she wanted to take all of this in. she wanted to show anthony how happy she was with him, how amazing he was, and how incredible they would be together as a family. "i love you so much anthony, and i'm so glad that we're going to get to share this together. you're going to be a wonderful father, and i'm going to be the best mother, and we're going to love one another and love this child with all our hearts. because our child deserves the best. and we're not going to have expectations like our parents. we're going to cherish him or her for what they are and encourage them. and together, as a team, we are more than capable of doing that." with those encouraging words, she leaned forward and kissed anthony. everything that she said she meant. they were going to do this, and they were going to do this right.
