one more day down these stairs, his room is cold now and it hurts like hell. he holds tight, he stares. it’s almost over and it’s running through his head. they don’t know me, they don’t know more than i show.
-------------------- Oh, everything seemed to be going pretty well lately. Alright, so sure... Severus had all but nearly lost his life when a bunch of Gryffindor bullies took things too far in the Forbidden Forest. People had whispered a little bit when he was brought to the hospital wing - rumors had a tendency to float around Hogwarts quicker than wind. Who was that girl always visiting him? Is Snivellus friends with the stupid girl? The rumors, sure... they were irritating, but at the same time, they were the least of her concerns. Severus was getting better, almost healed now, and though she still checked up on him now and again, their meetings were becoming less and less pronounced; the rumors, however? They died down, sure, but they never ceased.
Escaping to the library seemed a good idea at the time. It was quiet, and it looked pretty miserable outside - Severus wouldn't chance going to their little tree hide-away in this weather, would he? It was the perfect opportunity to catch up on some late reading, Lita had figured, and what better a place than the second most quiet area in Hogwarts? Nobody really liked the nooks and crannies in the library - it was far too quiet and eerie at times for the regular students to enjoy spending any amount of time there, unless with a big group of friends. Lita on the other hand... she welcomed the eerie calm of the book filled walls. The paintings of people who walked around and sometimes spoke to each other, or other students, had always sort of set Lita on the edge of her seat... but it was none more believable than a teenage girl with magic coursing through her veins.
The blonde had all but given up on reading the next text book to Herbology, and instead had begun doodling on the blank pages of her binder. The Quail quill flitted awkwardly over the parchment in front of her, the long strokes and sudden dots and pauses in her movements showed she knew what she wanted to draw and write... but didn't quite know where to begin, or how to go about it. The youth had settled on drawing your typical heart shape. It was shadowed, and sketched with cute little hearts surrounding it - sure, a simple girlish gesture... but did she dare adding anymore to it? The girl traced an "S.S" in the air above her paper, but actually writing the letters down, but she did it enough times, that if anyone were watching her, they'd catch onto the double "S" she so longed to scribble down.
It was juvenile, however. Girlish dreaming, and little doodles.
Lita was normally really good about keeping an eye out, and listening for others, however she hardly heard or noticed the other in the room with her until she felt a presence and a pair of eyes staring at her. Or... in her general direction. Swallowing, Lita covered her paper with a few more blanks, setting her quill down and slender arms moving to cross over her chest with irritation. Uhm, hello? Didn't anyone say it was rude to stare? Turning slightly in her chair, sky blue's settled on the Potter boy, and a low growl ripped through her as her eyes narrowed. What in the blazes did he want? Motioning with her chin towards the main entrance, the girl silently demanded he leave her vicinity right away. He had no business around her... especially after she had been the butt end of one of his pranks before.
-------------------- she’s walking up to him so slowly. it’s about time, it’s about time to fly away, but wait; this one is different cause she’s lonely. fold your wings, you’ll need them more one day.

expecting the worst, i do a lotIT'S NOT CALLED LAZY IT'S CALLED AN ART Someone had done Snivellus over. James should be prancing down the corridors and shaking the hands of the Gryffindors that had done it. But honestly, he felt a bit miffed that it hadn’t been him to do it. Never had he actually knocked the Slytherin unconscious and rendered him to the hospital wing for several days. Though he imagined, considering it had been Gryffindors chasing him, that James had had an influence on the attack. He was always moaning loudly about Severus in the common room and it wasn’t like it was a secret that he hated him. Or maybe he just liked to think he had a hand in it because it made him feel better. James was yet to make Snape really pay for his use of the ‘M’ word towards Lily Evans before the summer and he was anxious to get on with some revenge. Yes he was definitely irked that he hadn’t gotten there first.
But he’d have to worry about plotting later because he had work to do and that meant a trip to the library. No, you didn’t mishear; James Potter was actually going to set foot in the library. For the third time this week, James hadn’t handed in his charms homework and the professor had gone to McGonagall and she had threatened to ban him from the Quidditch pitch unless he handed it in tomorrow and so he had hurried to Moony who had promised to meet him in the Library and help him through it. Stupid charms, it wasn’t his fault he sucked at the stupid subject and spent half the class gawping at Lily and her wonderful wand work. He wished he hadn’t continued with the class, he wouldn’t have done expect it was a guaranteed slot with Lily and he just couldn’t pass up that opportunity. Maybe he could get her to tutor her . . . but then he remembered she was already helping the giant that was Luke Denmark. He sighed as he entered the most morose room in the castle.
Why anyone chose to spend any time here was beyond him. James had spent a considerable amount of his fifth year in the library actually as he had read up on how to become an animagus. But even though doing that had been an enjoyable, albeit reckless, experience, he hadn’t particularly enjoyed the hours spent between the dusty shelves of books. Moony would be late, it was a given, he’d been due to go to the hospital wing because it was nearing his time of the month and he always spent ages there. James hoped he got out soon though because he couldn’t leave this essay any longer. As he peered between the volumes hoping to find something that would help him with the blasted paper, someone caught his eye. Actually, it was her quill movements not on parchment that first caught his attention. Was that an ‘S’ being spelt out? With a frown, James’ gaze went upwards and his mouth opened interestedly as he saw her face. It was that Lita girl who never spoke. Weird person she was, an oddity and therefore James found his path to be towards her.
Someone’s words, he wasn’t sure whose, maybe Wormtail’s came to him as he carefully creeped up behind her to see what, if, she was writing anything. ’That mute, Spades, she’s been visiting Snivelly a lot apparently.’ James hadn’t reacted much to his friend’s appeal for attention because Lily had just entered the common room and stolen his concentration but evidently his brain had stored away the information. Finally, she felt his presence and made a movement; an obvious indication to leave. He shook his head animatedly, mocking her, and stuck out his tongue in defiance. Coming over to stand adjacent to her, he pointed to the parchment in front of her and then at the quill. ”What are you doing?” He asked aloud because no, James Potter could not stay silent for long. ”It was stupid of me to ask though wasn’t it? Because you don’t talk.” He said it scathingly and with a roll of his eyes.

one more day down these stairs, his room is cold now and it hurts like hell. he holds tight, he stares. it’s almost over and it’s running through his head. they don’t know me, they don’t know more than i show.
-------------------- The exaggeration of his shaking head and then mocking tongue poke soon after had Lita narrowing her sky blue's, and she tossed her hair over her shoulder with irritation. What business or right did Potter have comin' around and bugging her while she was busy studying? Okay, so... she hadn't been studying, but she had been earlier, and who was James to know what she had been up to before he so rudely interupted? When he moved to stand near her, Lita kept her eyes fixated on the boy, like prey waiting for the predator to make it's killing blow. She wouldn't forget the little prank directed to her a year or so back - not that it was particularly bad, and it had been forgotten about rather quickly by the students of Hogwarts... however, she held grudges pretty badly, and she wasn't through with hating James with every fibre of her being... especially because he seemed to be the biggest instigator with Severus' bullying.
That just didn't fly well with her.
When the question was asked, Lita moved to shuffle her papers a bit more, covering up her doodle hearts, and note at the bottom of the page; "Visit Sevvy and ask about wrist." followed by another tiny heart at the end of the sentence. Heavens forbid he should see that! Shaking her head a bit, Lita thrust her hand at her Herbology text book, glowering at James and giving him a "are you stupid?" expression. The blonde ran a hand through her locks, staring at him with a hardened expression from under her veil of bangs. If this were a different, alternate universe, James Potter was the kind of guy she probably would have flirted with - but not only was he her love's arch nemesis, he was a Gryffindor... which automatically made him her enemy to begin with. The youth's upper lip lifted in a sneer as he rolled his eyes and spoke again, the girl's own sky blue's glaring before turning to her pages.
Gathering up her papers, the parchment she had been doodling on nearly slipped from her grasp, and in a panic, the girl whipped her arm out to catch it, blue's widening only slightly at the idea of it getting captured by someone else - especially James Potter. The comment hadn't gone without heed, and Lita grumbled under her breath as she gathered the rest of her books, flicking her hair off her shoulder to expose her heated neck. A faint pink had blushed her neck and face, an involuntary reaction to her almost getting caught in the act of being... well, girly. Swatting her hand out with irritation, Lita made a "shoo" motion, quirking a brow sarcastically and exaggerating the movements. She wanted him to go away, but knew it wouldn't be so easy.

expecting the worst, i do a lotIT'S NOT CALLED LAZY IT'S CALLED AN ART No, he didn’t get a reply. He hadn’t been expecting one but it would have made a change. Did she not get bored with not talking? How did she resist the temptation? A world without words, James couldn’t understand how she did it. He was suddenly struck with the temptation to try and coax speech from her. He was an expert at winding people up; surely he’d be able to infuriate Lita so much that she would at least tell him to go away out loud. He was already growing irritated by her motions and hand gestures. It was really quite rude actually. Typical Slytherin thinking that she was better than everyone else. Too good for conversation. Well James wasn’t going anywhere fast. He was procrastinating on writing an essay after all – he was in no rush to get to that.
He shrugged his shoulders, holding his arms out at either side, expressing that he didn’t understand what she was trying to tell him, even though it was clear as the day. He chuckled at her, shoving his hands casually into his pockets. Mistake, because he missed the opportunity to grab the piece of paper she had been sketching on. He was incredibly nosy and extremely curious as to what she was hiding. It hadn’t taken her long to gather up her belongings and hide them from him. James would get it out of her eventually he was sure of it. And if he had to revert to snatching the paper off of her, then so be it. ”I hear you’ve been visiting Snivelly during his stint in the hospital wing.” James smirked at her, her flushed reaction to almost losing her precious piece of parchment had not gone unnoticed and it had sparked his curiosity further.
For now he was content with winding her up about Snape, she obviously considered him a friend if she was spending her free time by his sickbed and so that seemed as good a place as any in his mission to tease dialogue from her. ”Writing him out a sympathy card were you?” James mimed writing in the air and put on an imitation of what he thought her voice might sound like, slow, lamentable and of course, high-pitched, ”Dear Snivelly, I’m so sorry the nasty Gryffindors hurt you, I hope you feel better soon so we can both be outcasts together again. Your only friend, the mute.” He chuckled again, ruffling his hair up with his hand nonchalantly. This was much more fun that writing an essay.
James didn’t like how his naturally loud voice carried through the silence of the library. It bothered him that he had to use a lower voice than usual. He loved being the centre of attention and to make sure things stayed that way, you had to be loud and boisterous and the library was one of those places where that couldn’t happen. That was one of the many reasons he didn’t like the place. The way the silence was absolute and every time you uttered a single word it felt like every student in the place stopped going about their business to either eavesdrop on your conversation or glare at you for disrupting the peace. James didn’t like feeling uncomfortable and the library certainly made him feel that way. The Gryffindor couldn’t bring himself to understand why Moony did his thinking here when there was nothing but books and your own depressing thoughts for company. Eurgh.
Probably why Lita fitted right in. No talking allowed in the library. James laughed in his head at his own little joke. It was petty but he amused himself and hey, that was all that mattered.

one more day down these stairs, his room is cold now and it hurts like hell. he holds tight, he stares. it’s almost over and it’s running through his head. they don’t know me, they don’t know more than i show.
-------------------- The actions he threw at her, with the questionable expression had Lita sneering, and she turned back to her books, about to pick them up and shove them all into her bag until James spoke again. Sky blue's shut tightly, and Lita took in a slow and hitched breath, trying her best to keep her cool. Lita, back home during the summers, was known around her neighborhood for having a short fuse, and often times didn't back down from a fight - she floored quite a few people, not that she'd brag about it. She never started a fight. Just finished them. Narrowing her eyes, the youth opened them once more, turning her face slightly to glare at the Potter boy from under her veil of blonde bangs. There was no use trying to argue with the kid - it was best just to let laying dogs lie, and keep up the impression that she was a mute. Maybe one day he'd smarten up and leave her alone.
When he mimed writting in the air, however, the sympathy card comment made her blood boil - her face heated up with slight embarrasment that she had been caught miming the "S" in the air a few times... however, she could have easily masked her reddened face as lividity instead of sheepishness. The mocking voice made her growl, and the more he spoke and mimicked her, insulting both Severus and herself in the same sentence... well, not only did a cold shiver run down her spine, but her entire attitude seemed to shift from that reserved untalkative girl... to a blood thirsty killer. Yup, her anger could be quite terrifying at times, and it wasn't until his little giggle that she finally lost her top.
Slamming her stack of books down on the desk in front of her, Lita growled, upper lip twisting in an attractive snarl of silence. Instead of her slouched and bent over position, the blonde lifted herself to a tall and postured stance, bright blue's swirling with fury, and she took a stride or two quickly over to James to close the distance between them. Forget her papers and her books and her little girly notes... James Potter had pushed her last button, and it was about time someone on the pointy end of his bullying stick put this little brat in his place.
"Holy Jesus, would you just shut your hate hole for five bloody seconds, Potter!?" The fury in her voice could have been pegged as sultry, almost seductive with the growling undertones. Tucking some loose hair behind her ear, the girl moved slightly closer, narrowed glare staying quite trained on his features; searching for any sign of submission, or at least the tiniest amount of fear. She was sure she'd see at least shock or surprise at the fact she could actually speak. "Your nasty shit-head Gryffindor buddies left Severus at the bottom of a ravine to die. To die, Potter! You think that's funny!?" Another sickening growl, and she tensed her muscles, not about to back down from this fight.
"Now, I suggest you leave. Now. Before I really lose my temper." Do not underestimate the power of an angry female threatened by her love's arch nemesis.

expecting the worst, i do a lotIT'S NOT CALLED LAZY IT'S CALLED AN ART To say that James was in his element was an understatement. Sure, if he could change something then it would be the location; the library wasn’t usually where he liked to spend his time goading others but he could deal with that because it was really quite amusing pushing Lita’s buttons. And oh so easy. Sure, he wanted to get a reaction from her eventually but he quite liked that she wouldn’t say anything back to him; made it easier for him to continue winding her up. Was she blushing or was that just her face heating up in anger? Either way James was very pleased with the effects his words were having on her. And he would follow her around wherever she decided to try and escape from him to. No one got away from James Potter simply by walking away.
With a cocky smile on his face and his hands shoved casually in his pockets, James leaned haughtily against the desk, amused with the glare on her face. His content mood didn’t last for long however. It seemed his words had had more of an effect than he had bargained for and he was shocked by what happened next. He jumped as the silent Slytherin slammed her load down onto the table next to him but that wasn’t the brunt of it. James couldn’t help but take a step back as Lita lifted herself to her full height. No he wasn’t scared of anybody let alone stinking Slytherins, he was just taken aback that was all. Taken aback by the fact that the lonely mute girl actually had some fight in her? Wasn’t she supposed to just sit in the corner and sulk? What was the world coming to?
If that wasn’t enough she then started to shout at him. That’s right, not just mumble a few words of discontent but full on let leash on him and it freaked James out. Not to mention her voice was completely the opposite of what he expected it to sound like at this level. His jaw dropped open with a gasp, gobsmacked, opening and closing like a pathetic goldfish as she let rip. Man this girl could pull all the punches. As Lita took a step closer, James took a step back. Dammit. It had been automatic; it hadn’t meant to do that, showed even more weakness. Don’t let the crazy Slytherin girl get the better of you Prongs. He rallied himself into response. It took a hell of a lot of effort to pull himself out of the state of shock he had gone into. Speech! From Lita Spades!
James pulled his expression (using a lot of effort because seriously, a lot of words had just come from the girl who never spoke!) into one of mild enjoyment once more. ”Now, now young lady don’t take that tone with me. Quiet voices only in the library.” He pulled his hand from a pocket and wagged his finger condescendingly at her. ”It’s rather amusing yeah.” He continued, referring to the way Severus had been treated. ”But I wouldn’t have worried too much about it, Snivelly’s not got enough soul in him to die.” James chuckled once more. ”He’s just a hollow shell dripping with grease attached to the world’s largest nose.”

one more day down these stairs, his room is cold now and it hurts like hell. he holds tight, he stares. it’s almost over and it’s running through his head. they don’t know me, they don’t know more than i show.
-------------------- His step back and goldfish impersenation had Lita grinning sadistically, a chortle of attractive laughter escaping her. "Nice. That's sexy. Is 'Goldfish Impersonator" one of your hobbies, Potter?" It was purred, almost melodically, yet the venom in her words were bluntly obvious. She was not impressed with the boy in front of her right now, yet he looked dumbstruck... and that made her feel better. It was beautiful that Slytherin house's mascot happened to be a snake... as when Lita straightened herself again to a proper postured position, it must have resembled a snake rising up preparing to strike at it's prey.
It was obvious that James had a hard time pulling himself from his shocked state, and the transition from surprised gasping fish to cocky ego-tistical jerk had Lita sneering. His waggling finger made the youth tense up again, but she kept quiet for now, simply glaring at him from through her blonde locks. One swipe of them, and they were out of her face and tucked behind her ear - not that the look didn't give her a slightly more crazed and flustered look. Sky blue's flicked over his form, glanced over his shoulder, and then trained back on his face. What a load... a complete load of--wait. Did he just say he was amused by Severus almost dying? Amused? A low growl ripped through her, and she took another intimidating step closer; however, she still kept quiet. She wanted to see what else he would say before she needed to use any drastic measures.
When the insults grew more elaborate, Lita grew more angered, and when he finished the last word of his rude comment, the girl threw herself at him. If her attack was successful, it was a simple push of his shoulders - palm connecting with his broad shoulders and shoving roughly so his back smacked against the book shelf unit behind him. At least... that's what she hoped happened. If she didn't manage to knock him back, she would simply glare, blue's narrowing maliciously. "You have a thorn bush shoved up your ass, Potter? You're sure being a class 'A' prick." The blonde leaned forward, her expression one of pure hatred. She was a scrapper with muggles... but with other wizards? Lita really knew better than to pick a fight with another wizard. "Watch it, 'least you want a fat nose yourself." The flexing of her fingers to form a fist was meant to be intimidating... even if it came from a skinny blonde girl.
Turning away from him, forcing herself to calm as much as she could, Lita made her way back to the desk to gather up her things. The Slytherin girl didn't know if James was the type to fight a girl, but she wasn't about to take her chances. "If anybody is a grease-ball around here, it's you, you piece of filth." Lita sneered, gathering up her books and papers, and not realizing the one she had been scribbling hearts on had somehow begun to stick out of her pile. Running a hand through her hair, she scoffed, a breathy laugh escaping her in sarcasm. "I really can't believe you. Are you so heartless that you'd care less if Severus died? He's got more of a soul than you ever will, Potter." Another growl, and just as she was going to pack everything in her bag, the slip of hearted paper fluttered out, and landed on the floor between them. Ohshit.

expecting the worst, i do a lotIT'S NOT CALLED LAZY IT'S CALLED AN ART Once this girl started talking it was apparently difficult to get her to shut up again. James had thought he’d quelled the noise after her jibe at him (which he ignored apart from narrowing his eyes because he’d still been in his oh my Merlin faze) because she went back to simply glaring at him from underneath her hair. She had this feisty look going on that generally James found quite attractive (see Lily Evans for further details) but she was a Slytherin and so that automatically made him not look twice at her. Even though there was this nagging feeling that he wished she wasn’t a snake so that he could flirt with her. But still, that was all beside the point because she was here defending Severus Snape. Anyone who did that was not in James Potter’s good books.
His cockiness however did not last long because as soon as the final word had left his mouth she was onto him. Literally. Shoving his backwards with more force than James imagined could come from someone so petite. And James wasn’t necessarily small or light either. He was tall, still growing, but with enough extra weight borne from Quidditch. And yet she managed to cause him to stumble backwards and bash into the bookcase behind him. Later James would put it down to being caught unawares. The goldfish impression was back as he hurried to push himself upright, rubbing his back where it had painfully caught the wooden shelves behind him. ”Are you out of your mind?” He asked angrily, already having his own opinion to that question. He had gone from arrogant to cross in a matter of seconds. Lita was lucky she was a girl otherwise his wand would have been out hexing her into next week because he did not agree with being physically attacked and threatened with more (he did not miss her hand balling up into a raised fist).
What’s more she then had the nerve to turn her back on him! As if this was over. James might not feel comfortable with pulling his wand on her but he sure had a few more things he’d like to say. His anger did not dissipate quickly around Slytherins, particularly those that abused him. He followed her to the table, his face burning with rage and embarrassment. He was just about to speak his mind when Lita turned to him again and his keen eyes spotted love hearts doodled on a piece of parchment sticking out from the pile of books she was now holding. James would bet his broomstick that was the bit of paper she had been scribbling on before he’d interrupted. Once again, James’ mood switched quickly, this time back to curiosity and a cunning plan was forming in his mind as he spoke. ”Is this why you don’t speak? Because when you do you unleash a torrent of unfair abuse?”
One of her phrases caught his attention and his eyes snapped back to focus on hers. Did he care if Snivelly died? He supposed not. ”No.” He snapped back at her. ”Why should I? He means nothing to me. . .” He trailed off, things were clicking into place in his mind. .. Two plus two was most definitely making four here. And if he needed any proof then he got it. The piece of loose parchment fluttered free and this time James was ready to grab it. He snatched it with a Quidditch player’s sharp reflexes and the confidence brimmed to the surface once more. With a look of triumphant joy, James studied the paper. ”But you care about Snivellus don’t you?” He said, raising his brown eyes to her blue. The final piece clicked into place and with a tone laced with amusement, shock and disgust he said, ”You’ve got a crush on Snivelly, haven’t you?” He waved the parchment emphatically over her head, the beginnings of a laugh protruding from his lips.

one more day down these stairs, his room is cold now and it hurts like hell. he holds tight, he stares. it’s almost over and it’s running through his head. they don’t know me, they don’t know more than i show.
-------------------- The accomplishment Lita felt when James slammed against the book shelf made the girl smirk cynically, a small bubble of laughter threatening to escape. While he rubbed his back, sky blue's just trailed along his form. There was something alluring about his anger that flared up. It was an understatement to say Lita's views on what was attractive and what wasn't was... warped. With her homelife, and the way she was raised, she had had to deal with some slimeballs - perhaps that's why she found this angry Potter attractive in this moment. Perhaps that's why she found herself in love with troubled Snape. It was a little odd, sure, but in this particular moment, the girl felt... empowered. She knew James wasn't stupid enough to fight back, her being a female and all - so in reality, she won this fight.
When she had gathered her things, and turned to glare at him again, Lita flipped some hair over her shoulde - a subconscious flirting style of hers whenever she was in the presence of someone "powerful" or authoritive. Not that she would admit to anyone James made her feel inferior on a regular basis. Another flick of her eyes over his form, and when she lay her gaze on his curious and somewhat cunning expression, the girl offered her own little flirty smirk in response to his words. "Oh, Potter." she purred, her lyrics venomous and her expression wicked. "If anyone's ushering unfair abuse," she stepped closer, lifting her hand to lay it on his shoulder before slapping his cheek playfully - not hard enough to hurt, but hard enough to make a small cracking sound, "it's you." All his torture? Cruel to Snape, cruel to her, cruel to others - he was being hypocritical.
Turning away again, she hadn't noticed the paper sticking out from between her books, and when he focused back on her, the girl growled lowly, eyes narrowing. "You really wouldn't care." A disgusted scoff escaped her, and she ran a hand through her hair. "Of course you wouldn't care, you're disgusting filth." Spitting out the words as if it tasted gross on her tongue, she hadn't had the time to react when the paper slipped out from her stack... and the hand of James Potter snatched out to grab at the parchment. Sky blue's widened in fear as she saw what was on the paper - had it been any other sheet, she wouldn't have cared too much. Who cared about Herbology notes? But this... scribbled on, hearted, cutesy noted paper? Lita scowled, moving towards him to try to snatch the paper from his hand, though his eyes focusing on her had her freezing in place. "Who cares if I care about another living creature?" she sneered, and as she went to reach for the parchment above his head, his next words had her stumbling forward a bit, nearly falling into James' chest.
Did she have a crush on Severus Snape? No. No, she didn't have a little crush. She was head over heels in love with Severus Snape. Eyes narrowed, then widened... then narrowed again. "No, I don't have a crush on Severus." she glowered, reaching up to try and grab for the paper again. Curse his height! Lita was tall for her gender and age, sure, but he was still a little taller, and it took her on her tip-toes just for the false hope of grabbing the corner of her page. "Give it back, Potter!" she barked, hopping a little before finally attempting intimidation. Dropping so she could fix her posture, the girl straightened her spine, chin lifting a bit and she sneered. "Give it back, or I'll shove you through that book case this time."

expecting the worst, i do a lotIT'S NOT CALLED LAZY IT'S CALLED AN ART James raised his chin defiantly as Lita took a step towards him, but his head tilted downwards, a frown creasing his forehead as he inspected her hand on his shoulder. The sudden and unlikely contact sent a charge through him – a feeling he had not expected. And he didn’t see it coming, the small slap, that vibrated against his cheek. He blinked several times at her, his brain not quite being able to process what had just happened yet again. He was not used to getting so much of a fight from his victims. What happened to the girl that just stood and took it? Had he actually managed to break her completely? At that thought, something inside James exploded and he realised it was his ego. He was quite proud to have been the one to unleash this aggressive nature from Lita. And he showed it with the arrogant smirk on his face. Her actions hadn’t irritated him as she probably intended, but rather increased his conceit. ”Feisty. I like it.” His brown eyes, widened, half in question, half beguilingly, ”Fighting like a muggle, isn’t that usually beneath you Slytherins?” He said with a wiggle of his eyebrows.
”As if you’d care if I died?” James argued crossly. Though why he was trying to prove his point to a Slytherin of all people he couldn’t quite comprehend. Why did he care what she thought of him? Maybe it was the subtle flirting, the little hair flicks and her eyes raking his body that made him want to defend himself. And so he continued. ”Regardless of how I treat Snivellus, you wouldn’t give a damn if I was lying face down in a ditch now would you?” He raised his left eyebrow questioningly, daring her to defy him. He said it because honestly, James didn’t care if everyone in the green and silver house dropped dead tomorrow. If anything, he’d be quite happy and also relieved. Though it’d take away some of his fun because he quite liked winding many of the Slytherins up. And if he didn’t care about the Slytherins, he was pretty sure that they didn’t care about the Gryffindors. The isolated pride-filled creatures that they were, they obviously didn’t care about anyone other than themselves.
The laugh that had previously threatened finally escaped his lips at the scowl on the girl’s face. ”Oh I care, I care when that person is the least attractive git on this planet!” The young Gryffindor had to physically stop himself from howling with laughter because the very thought of Lita fancying Snape brought tears to his eyes. James’ free hand jumped to his hair, ruffling it up at the back, consciously this time, as if making a statement that he was much more appealing. He was watching her reactions carefully and they only made him believe his statement more. With a flourish, he lifted the paper higher out of her reach, hanging it tantalisingly above her. Until, with a satisfied grin on his face, he watched her retreat and then he dropped his arm, pocketing the parchment with the intentions of displaying it to the whole Gryffindor common room. ”Ho, I seemed to have touched a nerve.” He simpered, his tone a touch patronising. Because he had to milk this situation, he just had to. It wasn’t every day he discovered someone was willing to go near Snivelly without a ten foot long bottle of shampoo. And it was hilarious.
”So tell me, Lita,” He started casually, his tone good-natured with a slight undertone of mocking, ”What is it about Snivellus that attracts you to him?” He shoved his hands into his pockets, quite content that he had the upper hand in this situation. ”Is it the gangly form or the fresh smell of grease?”

one more day down these stairs, his room is cold now and it hurts like hell. he holds tight, he stares. it’s almost over and it’s running through his head. they don’t know me, they don’t know more than i show.
-------------------- The fact he hadn't become irritated with her actions didn't outright kill Lita's mojo... no, his little egotistical smirk just fueled her more manipulative, arrogant, and downright cynical side. She was in Slytherin for a reason - her reason just happened to be tucked away under her selective mutism. At his words, Lita simply quirked a brow, her gaze narrowing on him and she stepped back to lean against the desk - slender legs lifted to cross over one another slowly; yea, Lita Spades was flirting... and for some reason, her tough girl stubborn... "sexy" flirting self only came out when she was being particularly snarky or bitchy. "Mmn, you would like feisty, wouldn't you, Potter?" Lita tastefully ignored the comment about fighting like a muggle - though the words did slice deep.
The argue in his tone as he spoke to her again had Lita rolling her eyes a bit, arms crossing and one hand lifting so she could inspect her finger nails - yes, she was playing it off as boredom. Lita was well known for her mutism and frankly... everyone thought she was just too stupid to speak; on the contrary. Lita was about as manipulative and sarcastic, arrogant and cruel as any Slytherin out there. That didn't mean that she was exactly like them. "Don't be so quick to judge." Irritated growl rumbled through the lengthy girl, and she finally turned her eyes from her finger nails to watch James closely. "I'd care if I found you in a ditch. I'd ask all the typical questions. What happened, and who did what." However, a slightly cynical smirk twitched her lips, and the girl tilted her head back a bit, letting her blonde locks fall over her shoulders and back. "That's not to say anyone would see me crying over your grave, though." Light sigh here.
Uncrossing her legs, the girl absently chewed on one of her finger nails, sky blue's glaring at the bookshelf behind the Gryffindor boy before his laughter finally caught her off guard. At first, the blonde sneered, upper lip lifting in an attractive snarl to bear her pearly whites... his words would probably have made her jump up and shove him again, had he not ruffled his own hair and grinned that cocky smile of his. Oh, so Potter thought he was hot shit, huh? Sneer rolled into a sultry smile, and she kicked herself from her leaned and lazy stance. Taking a step or two closer, her movements slow and calculated, Lita ran a hand through her hair - curved figure finally stopped near the boy, chin lifting so she could gaze at James' face - sky blue's locking with his own chocolate browns. "So, you're saying that you're a much better catch then, am I right?" The youth purred, her tone taking on an almost mockingly seductive melody. "Then tell me. Why does Lily Evans continue to think otherwise?"
Hopefully that struck a nerve. Lita was almost looking for a fight now. She hadn't been this worked up in years.
When he shoved the parchment in his pocket, his hands following soon after, Lita took a small step back - sky blue's narrowed, and it took everything in her to stop herself from launching herself at him and pummeling him until he gave it back. ... She'd probably lose, but at least she'd have tried. And someone like James wouldn't go around saying he got beaten up on by a girl. He was much too proud - most Gryffindor's were. When James began speaking again, Lita leaned herself back a bit, head tilting and lips twisting into a frown. His arrogant stance was beginning to annoy the girl, and when he asked his disturbing questions, the Slytherin female simply turned away from him, tromping back to the desk and finally planting her ass on the table. Legs swayed underneath her, crossing at the ankles as she leaned back on her palms. Avoid the question tastefully, and maybe you can get away with it all just being one big mistake. "Wow, I can really see why that Evans girl fancies you." Sarcasm dripped heavily in her words, eyes rolling dramatically as she spoke. "Tell me, is it your charm that won her over in the end, or was it the attitude of a five year old?" Lawl... it was funny because she hated him. On the outside at least, that's how it appeared.

expecting the worst, i do a lotIT'S NOT CALLED LAZY IT'S CALLED AN ART With a narrowing of his eyes that James forced himself into, he watched his fellow sixth year conduct her movements. It was all planned all part of her little game - that James was sure of and he was determined not to fall into it. But it was so hard. As much as he tried to keep his stare angry and fixed defiantly on her face, he could tell his brown eyes were smouldering and he couldn’t help but let his gaze rake her body. He resisted the temptation to say, ‘nice legs.’ No, he wasn’t going to openly flirt with the Slytherin. Maybe subtly, maybe by accident but he would not choose to do it brashly. The usually animated James Potter had been sprung unexpectedly by the mute Slytherin girl and it had thrown him considerably off balance. He wasn’t entirely sure how to react without playing along with her flirting game. ”You know me so well.” No, that wasn’t the best way to react.
Being cheeky and offensive was how James usually dealt with the Slytherins and so far he’d done a pretty good job here. He just needed to cut out the reflex reactions to her bitchy, yet remarkably flirtatious comments. ”Precisely my point.” He spoke with gritted teeth, moving his lips as little as possible in an attempt to regain his usual demeanour once more. ”I can’t say I’d be shedding any tears at yours either, Spades. As for Snivelly’s,” There, the traditional James Potter swagger was back because it went hand in hand with his jibes about Severus, he was just too easy to attack. ”I’d probably be throwing a party.” Besides, he knew now that to offend Snape was to offend Lita and get underneath her skin. It felt good to be winding somebody up with just words; he hadn’t done it for a long time. It was oddly refreshing.
With complete and utter satisfaction, the sixth year watched Lita jump up from her lazy position. James was relishing this opportunity. Getting a reaction from her was all that he wanted. James nodded, the cocky smirk still etched to his face. He was glad she’d picked up on that. And more then glad to have the opportunity to get a closer look at her. Never would he admit it out loud, but she was hot. Yes she was a Slytherin but he could look and not touch without anyone finding out. He was quite content, even going as far to think that maybe she wouldn’t have a smart reply to that one. He underestimated her of course and his expression went from cocky to broken in a matter of seconds when she brought Lily into the conversation.
Why did everyone do that? He knew he brought it upon himself by broadcasting his obsession with her to the entire school but still, did that give people the right to use it against him? Apparently it did. His face dropped momentarily struck down by her words; they were harsh, they hurt him, of course they did they were true! But he returned soon enough with a remark of his own, said with as much venom as he could muster because he was well and truly pissed now. ”And Snivelly is at the ground worshipping your feet, is he?” Dramatically, he turned his head to look around, ”Nope, I don’t see him paying much attention to you. I doubt he even knows you exist.” He added, hissing the words at her.
James gloried in his success and winning the paper; his eyebrows raised innocently as if he was convinced he was doing nothing wrong. He had hoped to anger her further with his questions but she seemed intent on avoiding his queries. This was the frustrating thing about Slytherins; they never wanted to answer you directly. They always answered your question with a question. The satisfied smirk was well and truly gone from his face now, replaced with a bitter expression and words intent on causing hurt. ”Oh ha, ha, very funny.” He more than matched the level of sarcasm in her voice. ”Have you been charming Snivellus with this quick wit of yours? Oh wait that’s right, I bet you don’t speak to him. Well I’m honoured that you chose me as the subject of your magnificent sense of humour. I have to say bravo, its working wonders on me. Are you sure you haven't changed your mind to me instead?”
