It was a good day for at Hogsmeade trip, the sun was shining, there wasn't a cloud in the sky and it wasn't too cold and it certainly wasn't too hot. It was perfect weather and a perfect day. A tall boy made his way down the path toward the village, a smile on his scarred face. He had some pocket money and he planned on spending it away in the village stores. Maybe get some new books, and some sweets a couple jokes and some things for his cat and a few things for his friends.
He spent a good portion of the day just shopping and enjoying himself and then he decided to just relax with a book and eat his sweets. Luke passed by Severus on the bench, giving a short wave as he made his way along and then sat down under a tree and stretched out, he opened his book and started to read, eating his treats as he did so. He turned a page and then, got the funny feeling he was being watched. Luke peeked up over his book, his blue eyes focusing on some girl. The quiet one. She was staring at him.
He shrugged and went back to his book, intending on ignoring her. But then, he looked up again and gasped in shock, she was inches from his face! "Geez!" he yelped, banging the back of his head on the tree. He scowled and rubbed the spot furiously to make the pain go away.
"What?" He hissed, "Couldn't you just tap me on the shoulder like a normal person?" But apparently, she wasn't a normal person, for before he could back away and give himself more personal space, she started badgering him with questions.
(Ick. Short. But it'll be longer next time. I promise.)

one more day down these stairs, his room is cold now and it hurts like hell. he holds tight, he stares. it’s almost over and it’s running through his head. they don’t know me, they don’t know more than i show.
-------------------- Today was not a good day to get on Lita's bad side. Not only was she dealing with the fact her journal had been stolen - her journal full of her home life, the truth about her muggle born heritage, and her gooey doe-eyed love for Severus Snape - and not only had she been listening to nothing but insults and banter thrown about in the Great Hall about "the grease-ball Snivelly"... when Lita had gotten physically mad about it, they had gone after her. The insults and banter turned to her, and they called her everything under the sun except a white man. She probably would have been beaten up too, had she not been a girl.
It was just one of those days she needed to escape... maybe grab a butterbeer or two to calm herself down. Mmn, butterbeer. Sighing as she wandered through Hogsmeade, the sight of Severus on one of the benches had her smiling if only for a moment; moving to stand next to him, the girl wanted to reach out... stroke his hair, hug him around the neck, rub his shoulders, anything, but standing close to him was probably the second best thing. Lita would never be doing those things unless, I dunno... Severus was unconscious, or dead or something. Running a hand through her hair, the girl almost announced she was gonna go wandering again if Severus wanted to join her, but a tall - and attractive - Gryffindor walked past, nodded at Snape as he went.
Wait a second.
Blue's narrowed, and the girl growled under her breath. That was the Gryffindor kid that stood up for Severus a while back... she had seen it, and she had been about to go do something about it, until the big muscley-arms did. The negativity she had for the entire day, however, dampened any praise she may have given the boy, and with a short, "I'll be right back." to her friend on the bench, Lita made her way in the direction the Gryffindor had gone.
Looking around her, she finally spotted the boy sitting against a tree. Sky blue's glared, especially when he glanced over his book at her. What did he have planning in that buff brain of his? Was he trying to get Severus on his good side? Keep him close and then WHAM! catch him off guard and prank him? Another low grumble, and when he went back to his book, Lita stomped her way right over to him and stared down at him with an angered expression on her features. Today was not the day to piss Lita off - even if Luke hadn't done anything directly to her... or done anything wrong at all. When he glanced up, saw her, yelped, then jumped back, Lita let a sarcastic and near cynical smirk crease her soft lips. His his of a question made her chuckle, and before she could stop herself, she stepped closer to close the distance between them.
To anyone else who didn't know better, it would have appeared to be a rather intimate moment - Lita was so close, she could feel his breath on her face, and she was betting he could feel hers as well. Their bodies were almost touching, and their faces were inches away from one another... yet this was far from intimacy. This was intimidation - something Lita was really good at, despite what others truly thought about her. The mute girl. The stupid girl. "What business have you messing around with Severus?" She growled. "What, you think it's funny to make him trust you? Lieing, cheating, disgusting Gryffindor." Another sneer, and she backed him up against the tree. "What are you planning? What are you and your brainless buddies gonna do to him this time?" Whoa, girl. Calm yourself.
-------------------- she’s walking up to him so slowly. it’s about time, it’s about time to fly away, but wait; this one is different cause she’s lonely. fold your wings, you’ll need them more one day.

She was too close. It was obvious that the girl, Lita....(he was pretty sure that was her name) was trying to scare him. Sighing slightly, Luke reached out, put his index finger on her forehead and pushed her face away. "Personal space." he said firmly and then he was a little surprised that she actually spoke so much. He knew she could speak, he'd heard her a few times when passing by other Slytherin students, but this was the most he'd ever heard her say.
"What do you mean?" He asked, a little surprised and then raised an eyebrow. Boy this girl was annoying! He sighed and put his finger on her brow again, this time pushing with even more force as he stood up. "I'm not 'messing around' with the guy." he told her as he marked the place in his book with a bookmark and put it back into the bag he was carrying it in. "I'm not going to make him trust me or anything like that." Okay. The lying cheating disgusting part was really starting to get on his nerves. He backed away against the tree, truly annoyed now.
He sighed deeply and then grabbed her by the arms, forced them to her sides, picked her up and hung her from a strong branch on the tree by the back of her jacket like some giant coat. "Hang out there and listen to me." He said firmly and smiled slightly, backing away a bit. "I'm not a liar, I don't cheat and I'm certainly not disgusting. Hi." and he stuck out his hand "My name is Luke and you suck at first impressions." he told her, grabbing her by the hand and shaking it, as if this was all a nice, pleasant everyday introduction.
"Let me explain myself, not that I should have to but at the risk of being bitten by you I'm going to go ahead and explain things." he watched her struggle to release herself and grinned, "Look. I don't like how everyone treats Severus." He said, "He doesn't deserve to have his ass handed to him as much as he does. I stood up for him because it was four on one and that's not fair. If it was one on one and he was armed, I probably wouldn't have done anything since he can more or less take care of himself."
He smiled slightly, "I'm not planning anything except maybe becoming his friend and no. My friends and I aren't planning on throwing him off the Astronomy Tower or anything like that. So calm down." He told her, sounding amused "If you want to know why I want to try and become friends with Severus, it's because he's actually a pretty interesting guy. I couldn't care less what my housemates think of me. I was raised to treat everyone the way I'd like to be treated and so, since I'd rather not be treated like a giant pinata, I'm not going to treat Severus like one either."
He then reached out and with one hand, plucked her down from the tree by the back of her clothes and set Lita down on her feet. "Now." he said with another smile, "Why do you care so much about how I treat Severus?" he asked her, "I mean, it's not like you're his sister or anything. I don't even think too many Slytherin students are all that fond of him. They certainly don't go out of their way to help him out. So......again....why do you care?" he was actually quite curious about her reasons now and wanted to hear them.

one more day down these stairs, his room is cold now and it hurts like hell. he holds tight, he stares. it’s almost over and it’s running through his head. they don’t know me, they don’t know more than i show.
-------------------- When his index finger pushed on her forehead, Lita narrowed her eyes, only leaning back slightly and taking half a step back when he announced personal space. Okay, so she liked her personal space as well... but right now, she was just so angry that someone could--hey! He pushed her back with more force the second time, and she finally took another step back, letting some space between them. Watching him with a furrowed brow, the girl couldn't figure out why he was being so... well, so calm. Here she was - one of the least intimidating Slytherins there was - trying to scare him into giving her answers, and then there he was... well, not caring. "Yea, right. I've seen people 'help'," she lifted her hands to do finger quotations, "Severus before... only to turn around and beat him up themselves."
When he moved around her and away from the tree, Lita almost began growling at him with more accusations... until she felt his hands on her arms and her body being lifted from the ground. The initial fear, of course, was that she was about to get her ass kicked. It was almost second nature for her to flinch and duck her head, and as soon as she was hung from one of the branches of the tree, she began swiping her arms out, kicking her legs, and yelping in fear. Oh, this was it. Some big Gryffindor beef cake was gonna kill her. This was the end.
Dear step-loser, I leave none of my possessions in your care. I wish to-- Huh?
He took her hand in his and shook it as if they were simply having a pleasant conversation. Hmn, Luke huh? Suck at first-- why, she should..! "Lita, and you just suck in general. Put. Me. Down!"
Explain himself? Explain. Himself? That was a laugh. She began struggling again, kicking at him instead of just in generally, and swiping her arms at him. The blonde hair that was normally kept well taken care of was beginning to frizz and obscure her vision, and in her last attempts of freeing herself, the girl just blew the bangs from her face and glared up at him. Smirking sadistically at him, the girl finally allowed herself to relax a bit, arms reaching over her head to attempt catching the fabric that was caught on the branch. To no avail. Lita settled for listening quietly, finally letting herself go limp, and just let her body hang there like a rag doll. His grins and smiles made her glower in irritation, but she did take in everything he said.
He stood up for Severus, yes... she saw that. But how could he be trusted? She'd seen it happen before... she'd seen the pranks and false hopes. His explanations into why he felt he wanted to be friends with Severus had Lita tilting her head slightly, neck craning a bit with her awkward hanging angle so she could gaze up at the taller boy from under her blonde veil of hair. When he paused to reach out, the girl flinched again, shutting her eyes and waiting for the blow she was expecting... instead, he just lifted her from the branch and set her down on the ground gently. "Bloody hell, you're strong." she caught herself mumbling, hands brushing off her clothes and straightening out her shirt and jacket soon after being set down. His questions made the girl tuck her chin down a bit, cheeks heating up, but she could have passed that off as nothing but flustered frustration. "Look, I see how everyone treats Severus and it's not fair at all."
She would avoid the question for now.
Sky blue's blinked up at Luke, and the girl rubbed the back of her neck in slight embarrassment - however her scowl was still plastered to her features. "So, you think he's interesting. Want to become his friend. ... You don't care that he's everyone else punching bag?" Curiosity pushed the girl to finally pay close attention, her eyes studying his features and actions, making sure he wasn't throwing off any signs of lies or deceit. "You're right... he doesn't deserve the treatment he gets. Uhm..." Another wave of embarrassment. "Sorry for... insulting you. I've had probably the worst day this year so far." she sighed, rolling her shoulders in a shrug and adjusting her clothes again. "Why do you care that I'm sticking up for Severus?" she snapped back finally, eyes glaring at her boots. Yup, she'd avoid his question like the plague if she could.

"If Severus doesn't attack me and give me a reason to defend myself and kick his ass, I won't beat the hell out of him." Luke said with a small smile, "And I don't think Severus will attack me if I don't give him a reason to."
To his surprise, (not to mention worry) Lita flinched horribly as he reached for her. Did she think he was going to beat the hell out of her? That was weird....but not totally unthinkable, for he was pretty big guy and he was much taller than her. Had she got beaten up by a guy before? He made a mental note to ask about that later. Maybe he'd be able to put a stop to it if it was still going on.
"Hey!" Luke said brightly with a big smile, "We have something in common! We both suck!" He couldn't resist, it was too big of an opening not to take. "And ....not until you calm down. Just hang out there and cool your heels Lita." He told her, shaking his head slowly. He watched as her hair frizzed right before his eyes, and he had to bite his lip to keep from laughing at her. She looked like she'd just been rubbing balloons all over her head.
As he reached out for her, his suspicions were confirmed. Yep. Someone was hurting her. He shrugged slightly, "I pride myself on being strong and improving myself. Plus, you're pretty light." He added, watching as she adjusted her clothing. "So .....your goal to make things fair is to stick your face into the face of people a hell of a lot bigger than you and potentially pissing them off? Yeah. Good plan. Lemmie know how that works out for you."
He shrugged and nodded "Yep, yep and nope. I don't care what people think about me and my friends. If they're going to abandon me because I want to befriend someone everyone seems to hate for no reason then I don't want to be their friends in the first place."
He leaned back against the tree, "Nope. He doesn't." he said again and then shrugged slightly, "I figured as much." He laughed as she dodged the question, "Because, besides Lily Evans you're about the only girl who does care if Severus get the snot beaten out of him."
Then, Luke straightened up and reached into his bag, the flute necklace dangling down from his broad neck into it. "Let's see.... ah!" and he pulled out some cauldron cakes "Want some?" He asked, and he smiled warmly at her, which as usual made the scar on his face seem just a little less intimating.
After a moment he asked, ".....Someone's hurting you aren't they? You've come to except to be hurt by people bigger and stronger than you. Maybe men." He said quietly and looked at her, concern showing on his face "...........I know we just met, but if you want, I'll see what I can do about putting a stop to whoever's harming you." He told her seriously, meaning every word of it too.
