A year had passed since Balthazar and Rita had graduated from Hogwarts and the thief and the gossip had never stopped being in contact with each other, even though Rita was busy with her job at the Daily Prophet. Balthazar's parents loved Rita to pieces and his mother was especially fond of the girl, she had a special relationship with her. Whenever Rita was upset over something her own mother had told her, Siobhan would comfort her and be the kind, loving mom Rita always wanted.
His father Liam treated Rita like a member of the family, like the daughter they never had. He wrote her letters often enough and every birthday, holiday, achievement or sometimes even just for the hell of it, he sent her presents. He wasn't trying to bride her or anything, he just liked to spoil the girl like he did his own son.
Balthazar himself was extremely pleased that his parents had taken such a shine to Rita and he loved them for that. The thief couldn't have been happier, even if he'd tried. He loved the girl with all his heart and the fact that his parents loved her just as much as he did made everything a thousand times better. He stood, dressed in a dark green tuxedo and fixing his hair.
"Da'!" He called, his Irish accent thick on his lips, "Where's the present I bought fer Rita?" He asked and then, his mother came out of nowhere to 'help' with his hair. "Stoppit mom!" He yelped as she attacked his hair with a comb, "I doona need yer help, it's fine!" But she wouldn't take no for an answer.
"You're meeting your girlfriend fer dinner lad!" Siobhan said with a smile, "Ye canna go looking like tha'!" and so, it was a full ten minutes later did his mother finally finish his hair and much to his surprise, he actually liked how it looked!
"....Thanks." He said and then, took a present as long as a shoebox but twice as deep from his father. "Thanks da', keep it in me room with ye? I'll be back....uh ....whenever." he paused and looked back at his father and mother and smiled at them, then left the house and appparated away with a crack.
He stood outside the Skeeters' home and rang the doorbell, waiting patiently on Rita or her mother or father to appear. He then nervously buffed his shoes on the back of each pant leg.

It had been a wild year, Rita had been going steady with Balthazar for 3 years now, she had a job at the prophet and had designated Friday nights for dinner with Balthazar and his parents... His parents had accepted her into their family so fast and she couldn't ask for a more loving and accepting environment, one she would be proud to join... Rita often found herself going shopping or to lunch with Balthazar's mother and they would gossip and chit chat about things as if she was already Balthazar's wife....however who knew when that would really happen? Her own mother had been talking to her lately to ask if he had done it yet to which she answered a flat no, and was responded to with comments about why he probably hadn't yet. These comments included that Rita was probably much too fat, too outspoken, to boring, or to ugly to have him want to take her for a wife...it was too stressful so eventually Rita had stopped listening and spent a good portion of her day and nights out of the house Tonight though, was about her and Balthazar. He had asked her to go out with him that evening and she had eagerly accepted getting dolled up for the occasion.. She looked stunning.. Rita's mother heard the doorbell and rushed to answer it seeing Balthazar and putting on a bright smile. "Oh hello dear, Rita is on her way down, she may be a tad slow she seems to be putting on weight lately.." She said in that sickeningly sweet voice. Rita descended the stairs and glared at her mother. "Actually i've lost 5 pounds mother...thank you now shoo.." She stepped down and smiled. "Well don't you look handsome.." She smiled and kissed his nose. Wearing Rita's Mother

He didn't approve of how Rita's mother insulted her right off the bat, as if nothing she did was good enough. "Believe it or not Miss Skeeter," he said with a forced smile, "I'd love Rita even if she were over weight. A few pounds doesna bother me." there! That would show her. He smiled at Rita as she appeared, looking like a stunning beauty queen in her killer red dress.
"Thank ye lass, but you look ....well....hm...I canna quite put me finger on the word since 'beautiful' doesna even begin to do you justice." and he took her by the arm. "Don' be asking me where we're going either lass. It's going to be a surprise." He said, just leading her away down the sidewalk. Smiling, their arms linked, Balthazar walked along with her, just enjoying her company. With a smile, Balthazar lead her to a good spot for apparating and did so with a crack, taking her along with him. They ended up in an alley and he took her out of it.
"How have ye been lately?" He asked her as they walked, "And ye shouldna listen to yer mother lass." He told her fondly, "Ye doona need to lose anymore weight.....even if ye gained a twenty pounds, I'd still say ye looked great, because ye would. Yer perfect Rita. Don' let anyone tell ye different." and he kissed her cheek tenderly, then led her to a restaurant and inside, where he'd booked a table in the very best place in the house. It was dinner theater, and while customers ate, a show was performed on stage.
Balthazar smiled, pulling out Rita's chair for her, "I think ye'll like this place." He said and ordered pasta with an alfredo sauce and chicken, along with a side salad, a soda and tomato soup. He smiled across at Rita as she ordered and then, raised his glass to her "To a wonderful night." and touched the glass to hers, then took a sip. And old lady from the next table over leaned over, a smile on her face.
"You two are so very sweet!" She gushed, "How long have you been going out?" her husband told her to stop bothering the children, but Balthazar laughed and shook his head.
"She doesna bother me." He told the man and looked to the woman, "We've known each other since we were wee ones." He said, "We've officially been going out for three years." and just to drive Rita crazy, he said "And I'll tell ye somethin' else too....but keep it under yer hat." and he whispered into her ear which made the sweet old lady smile and laugh.
"Oh that is so darling! Don't worry young man, I won't spill the beans." and she smiled at Rita, "You're a lucky girl." and she talked to her husband again.
Balthazar chuckled, he didn't really mind the lady, he'd seen her using magic before so he knew she wasn't some muggle who'd dared to talk to him. Smiling, he focused on Rita again and laughed, "I'm no' tellin' you a thing lass." and then he stood "Excuse me, I have to use the restroom." and away he went into the men's washroom where after checking that no one was around, apparated with a crack.
He raced into his house, "Change of plans da'!" he said, and snatched up the box, running back out of the house "I'm giving her the present after dinner." He called out, then apparated again. This time, he really did use the bathroom for its intended purposes. He used a spell to make his pocket much bigger on the inside and pushed the box inside.
Exiting the bathroom, he went back over to Rita and sat down, subtly pulling the box out of his pocket under the table where she couldn't see, and using his feet to hide it under his chair behind his legs. "Sorry 'bout that." He said with a smile and then, dinner was served all around and the show began.
It was a robbery mystery and the actors were real professionals, they really sucked people into the show. Balthazar ate and watched, every now and again he'd lean forward and whisper his theory on who had robbed the man. The entire plot was very well thought out and was funny as hell.
Halfway through the show at intermission, waiters and waitress passed around little envelopes with the suspect's names inside. Smiling, Balthazar took the pen he was handed and looked at the contents of his envelope. "Ah, we're supposed to say who we think is the killer and how the killer did it." he smiled across the table at her, "I'll no' be telling ye who I think it was." he told her with a smirk, "That'll be my little secret." and he started to write.
The suspect were the man's friend, the man's snubbed brother-in-law, a maid, all of the party guests and the man himself. By the end of the play, it turned out to have been the man in the wheelchair, and his leg wasn't really broken, in fact, he didn't have a leg at all where the cast was. It was all stuffed to the brim with the stolen goods.
When the announced who had guessed correctly, Balthazar was the only one who'd done so. He smirked and then shrugged, "It was nothing." He said with a laugh, "I suspect him the entire time."
Words: 919 Thoughts: Rita's gonna be sooooooo happy!

When Balthazar snubbed her mother after the rude comment she made Rita could hardly contain the want to kiss him right then and there on the floor like an animal.. She refrained and took his arm smiling; "You don't look too bad yourself big boy." She winked and pecked his cheek. Once he told her that he had a surprise for where they were going she pouted but was grinning underneath.. "Agh you know suspense kills me.." She said and stuck her tongue out at him before they apparated.
After steadying herself she looked up at the handsome lad and shrugged. "I've been just fine, been busy with work which is a blessing because it gets me away from the wicked bitch.." She said with an eye roll. "I know baby.. thank you for always sticking up for me and for being there when she says those awful things.. It means quite a lot to me... believe me." She murmured squeezing his hand and following him.
The restaurant was incredibly interesting, like nothing she'd ever seen before. You sat down and had a nice dinner and these actors went up on stage and put on a show for you while you ate! It was utterly spectacular that muggles had something so interesting in their culture.. "I think I'll like it as well." She smiled ordering a glass of merlot and some cream of mushroom soup and a salad... something simple and light... besides mushrooms were her favorite. The clink of their glasses made the magic flow between them, every date with Balthazar had been a wonderful one...nothing ever disappointed..
Rita had to admit though, when Balty leaned over to swap secrets with the old woman she was pouting. She hated not knowing things, especially surprises involving her... "I am a lucky girl aren't I... he is the most wonderful man... If only I knew the other reason I was so lucky." She teased nudging the boy before sipping her soup.
She had finished her salad by the time they came around with the envelopes... Balthazar had just returned from a rather long bathroom break and Rita was penciling in whom she thought was the murderer... She thought it was the duchess but when the envelopes were checked it turned out Balthazar was the only correct one.
Rita leaned over and pecked his lips. "That is my man.. always knows everything.." She winked. Feeling like the luckiest woman alive..

Balthazar laughed lightly, enjoying the company and the entertainment. He watched Rita's every move, when he wasn't studying what was going on on stage. As they ate, Balthazar stole a few tastes of her meal, just to see what it was like. Once the meal was over and the entertainment was finished and everyone except for the old couple, who wanted to watch, Balthazar took the box from under the table and held it out to her. "Open it lass." He said softly. It was enchanted so that fresh air circulated around inside it and it was many times bigger on the inside than out, and lying on her side at the bottom, was a puppy. Around its neck was a black collar with a tag. It yawned, exposing a curled pink tongue and ran forward, leaping out into Rita's arms. The tag was engraved and read, 'Hello Rita, my name is Sammy. Will you Marry Us?' While Rita had been distracted with the puppy, Balthazar had gotten down on one knee and was holding up a ring "Rita Gertrude Skeeter.....will ye marry me?" He asked, staring up into her eyes. In that moment, he saw his entire future with her. They'd move into a large house, big enough to raise a family and keep the dog. They'd have children, as many as they wanted. Those children would be perfect little angels, they would be adorable and loving and kind....to purebloods. Rita would be at the top level at the Prophet. She'd come home and he'd ask her how her day went, she'd tell him how great it was and then they'd spend time with the kids. They'd grow old together, they'd become grandparents together. He was watching her during the split second in which he'd been thinking all of this, the old couple was happily watching the two of them, cooing to one another. (Bleh. Horribly short. Anyway, the links are in green.)

When the box was presented to her she blushed and her lips widened into a smile... her heart beat was quickening and she opened up her box and looked at the puppy inside with wide awestruck eyes. She stroked the puppy behind the ears and watched it nuzzle into her chest and neck. Rita took the tag of the collar in between her fingers and gasped at what it said... Her brown eyes moved to look at Balthazar and the question she was going to ask was caught in her throat..
He was down on one knee with a ring that looked as if it was carved out of solid diamond. "Balthazar? You.. oh my god..." She whispered and clapped her hand over her mouth holding the puppy to her chest.. She could see their lives flash before her eyes, the wedding...him in a charming suit and she in a gorgeous gown...His mother crying and his father looking so proud... Then they would get a house, a big one with ornate and elegant accents that suited the tastes of the young couple... Soon enough she would be pregnant and he would talk to their children in the womb and once they were born spoil them rotten. Watching them grow and thrive and turn into perfect people the way they were meant to...
They would grow old loving one another and holding one another...until the moment they died... There was no other answer but "Yes... Balthazar... I would be utterly honored to be your wife!" she said wiping her eyes and setting the puppy down, She leapt into his arms and pressed their lips together in a wonderful kiss.. "I am going to make you as happy as I can.. "
