--------------------------------I think I'm falling in love with you My heart is beating faster than I want it to--------------------------------- Nine year old Lily Evans looked up from her breakfast plate as Petunia bounced into the kitchen. “Tuney, do you wanna go to the park with me today?” she asked over a mouthful of eggs. Petunia looked at her with one of her looks. “Do you still want to go there after that nasty boy told you that you were a witch Lily?” The red haired girl frowned at her sister. “He might not be there Tuney.” The elder sister shrugged. “I’m going shopping with mum. She said that if you want to come that’s fine. If you don’t then keep to the neighborhood. Mummy said you can go to the park and that she can come get you later. Be sure to come home before dark.” Lily nodded. “I will Tuney,” The two sisters hugged before the elder one bounced off. “Lily dear are you sure you don’t want to come?” Samantha walked out from behind the corner and Lily jumped before shaking her head. “No mummy.” Her mother smiled down at her as she kissed her forehead. “Remember the rules and make sure you don’t talk to no one.” Lily nodded, wondering if Petunia had told their mother about the weird looking boy. Thankfully for the little girl her mother walked out after reminding her several times about the rules. Lily sat at the table for a few minutes to finish her toast and eggs. She pushed back the chair and got up, taking her dishes with her and walked over to the sink.
Carefully putting them in she felt something around her legs and nearly jumped before remembering it was the house cat. “What’s the matter Night?” She asked petting the black cat. It looked at her with amber eyes, mewling. She smiled and gave it one last pet before running up the stairs to get dressed. Ten minutes later, after putting the cat in what she called the ‘play pen’ Lily walked out, closing the door behind her. The weather was warm for June. Typical weather for the area of Great Britain. She made her way to the park after giving people waves and smiles, to which they returned. Her neighborhood was like a small little town where everyone knew each other. She was about a mile away from the park when a couple of boys that she didn’t knew looked at her with strange looks. Turning rather pink Lily hurried off before they could do anything. They looked rather mean but of course she wouldn’t tell that to her mother. To Petunia maybe. The sisters were good at keeping secrets away from their mother. It helped to be really close as well. She rounded around the corner and the park came into view. She grinned her emerald green eyes sparkling with joy as she skipped her way over the small rocks. Only a few kids were there today.
Weekend afternoon, Lily thought as she made her way over to the swing set. Most of them were probably out with their parents shopping. She let her arms grip the coil wirings and kicked out with her legs. The encounter with the strange boy was still fresh on her mind. He had called her a witch after she showed Petunia a dead flower. It started to bloom in her palm. His comment, however, had made her think about something. In the past two years she had strange things happening to her. Last week while on her way to school Lily had come across a person that was wearing a strange looking piece of clothing. He looked at her for a minute before winking and disappearing. Lily remembered standing there with her mouth hanging open in slight shock. People don’t disappear like that! She then remembered her mother’s dead garden in the backyard. The one that had died after the frost. One touch was all it took before magically bringing it back to life. She was nervous all of a sudden. Maybe there was something wrong with her. Maybe they ought to lock her up in the nearest hospital. She lowered her legs to the ground and skidded to a halt. Maybe the weird boy would be here at the park today. Maybe he would tell her more. Or she would hope at least. [/blockquote] Tagged!? Sev <33 Words!? 716 Notes!? The promised thread is up! Credit!? The credit is to Lily at .live forever.

The weird boy liked going to the park- it was a good place to get away from all the shouting at home. Recently, it had been getting worse. And he knew it was his fault. Not because he had been born, or because he was the kid in the middle of two near-divorcing people, but because… because he had magic. He had recently started showing signs of his own potential, and when his mother had discovered it about him, she had told him to keep it quiet from his father. They had shared in his lovely new gift while Tobias had been none the wiser, and Severus had loved it. His mom was so proud of him- she was happy to tell him all about Hogwarts, where she said he would be going to school, and what her experiences there had been like. He had been so excited about it, after hearing all of her stories. It seemed like a wonderful place and he really wanted to go! He didn’t understand why his father couldn’t know about any of it, and he didn’t get why the old man wouldn’t be happy that his son had, what his mother called, an amazing gift. One night, he simply couldn’t contain himself anymore. Asking a nine year old boy to keep a secret was a little like telling a lion not to eat meat. He had innocently gone up to his father and asked him if he had ever been to Hogwarts. That was it!
Since then, the fighting had increased. He could hear them yelling about whether or not he would be going to the school his mother seemed to love so much. Tobias seemed dead-set against it, always saying that he wanted to have a normal kid, not a freak. Was that what he was now? A freak? No. His mother was magic, and she wasn’t a freak. His dad didn’t seem to understand. Of course he knew he had married a witch, but Severus supposed he hadn’t thought the magic would show up in his own son. Maybe he thought he could just take the woman he loved and move away from the parts of her he didn’t like as much.
Severus didn’t understand- it was much more than a child could process.
So he liked when he could leave the house and let them fight with one another. If he didn’t have to hear them screaming, it was a good day. He knew his mother would get Tobias to see how amazing magic was. If only she would tell him all the stories she had told her son! That would totally convince him, wouldn’t it?
He moved down the street, keeping to himself as he made his way into the park. It was such a nice day, even with all the fighting at home, and he was glad to see that there weren’t too many kids in the place. Some of them liked to pick on him, saying he was poor and had bad clothes. None of that was his fault, but they didn’t seem to care. It didn’t matter- they weren’t magic. In a way, it made him feel superior to them, if not a little lonely. Lonely until he saw someone else with magic, too. A pretty red-headed girl had brought a flower back to life. Severus knew right away that she was a witch, just like his mother. How amazing! Someone else with the same thing as him, and she didn’t look like a freak at all. It only confirmed that he wasn’t weird, if such pretty people could be magic as well. Cooties notwithstanding, he was very happy to find someone else who could do the things he could. Though, her sister had been a bit of a butt-head. And he wasn’t sure he had made the greatest first impression. After he had told his mom about it, she had instructed that he apologize and introduce himself properly. She had seemed just as excited about the whole thing as he was.
Someone he could relate to.
It was luck that brought him to her, the boy smiling when he spotted the already familiar red hair. That was her! But she seemed alone this time, with no jerk of a sister there to make him feel very small. Good! He ventured forward, butterflies kicking up in his tummy, growing more energetic with every step he took.
“H-hello,” he offered quietly, all his courage drained by the time he was close enough to speak to her. “Um… do you… remember me?”

--------------------------------I think I'm falling in love with you My heart is beating faster than I want it to--------------------------------- Lily was kicking at the ground, making the rocks move. She was drawing a circle with her right foot when a shadow fell over her. She was about to scream when she got a good look at the person. Her expression brightened. It was the weird boy from before! She was suddenly nervous. Lily could feel butterflies in her stomach. She nodded at his question. “I remembered you. You were the one that had told me I was a witch.” It was something that she would never forget. “Tuney went shopping with mum so I’m alone. Normally she would be here with me. Mummy said that I can look after myself.” She grinned shyly at him. “I’m Lily Evans.” She introduced herself brightly. “Tuney says your that Snape boy that lives on Spinner’s End.” Really, once she started talking there was no stopping her. She stuck out a hand for him to shake. “My sister’s usually like that but Tuney and I are really close. She helped me out of a few tight spots at school before. The primary school right up the road. Don’t you go there?” It was then that Lily turned pink before biting down on her lower lip. Her mother had always said that Lily was one of those people that loved to talk. Sometimes she would even get out of hand to. “Sometimes I can do things that I can’t explain. I think you saw me bringing back a dead flower yesterday afternoon.”
She was sure that there was something wrong with her. Not a lot of people could do what she had did. The nine year old girl had asked her parents if they believed in magic. The Evans family was a very simple one. Her father had stated that he would know if magic had existed and used a lot of big terms that had confused the other girl. It was her mother that had intervened and told Lily that she did believe in magic. Magic is how you make it. Magic is the way of believing that different things can happen. That was simple enough for Lily to understand. She had asked Petunia but the elder sister shoot down that idea. “Magic is nothing but for useless times. It’s not that simple. Magic is a lot more complicated. Why look at how-” And her sister was off describing how the world was created and how they had come a long way. Lily had actually fallen asleep by the time that she was finished. Shaking her head out of her thoughts she looked up at the boy. “Do you believe in magic?” She asked him shyly. There was food for thought. “Can you do things that other people can’t?” For a nine year old Lily was intelligent. She was always asking questions about anything and everything. She wanted to learn more and more. Her thirst for knowledge was pretty overwhelming to say the least.
If one would go into her room they would see a bookshelf that was full of books. Lily loved to read. She would more often be found sitting, or laying, on her bed with one of her favorite books. She loved reading about mysteries. The fates must have something in store for Lily. She knew she was different than most people her age. None of them can bring a dead flower back to life. None of them can jump from a high point on a swing and survive without any scratches. Petunia had been insisting that everything was fine with her. She had also joked that there was nothing going on in her brain at the time. It was then that Lily had started to wrestle with her sister, who shrieked and tried to push her away. It had been her father that had broken up the fight between the two of them. Petunia was a very proper and prim girl taking after their mother. Lily could never live a life like that. She was too wild and carefree at this stage in her life. She couldn’t even begin to imagine the things that Petunia was going through. She sighed softly to herself as she looked up at him. For some reason she wanted him to tell her that she was not going crazy. That she was right about everything and she was someone special. [/blockquote] Tagged!? Sevve! <333 Words!? 726 Notes!? Severus wasn’t used to people talking so much! His parents fought, but they were always cutting each other off when it was going on. It wasn’t one person going on and on. Honestly, he didn’t know when he was supposed to get involved in the conversation, so he was content to simply listen and let her explain everything until she tired out. She said her name was Lily- he really liked that name. It seemed to suit her, too. It was bright, and pretty. A flower if he remembered correctly. Was she like a flower? She had brought one back to life, if nothing else, so there was some connection there. At least her name was pretty and had other meanings. He really didn’t know much about his name, other than the fact that his mother had picked it and his father absolutely loathed it. Maybe that was why his middle name was the same as his father’s first name. Maybe he was Severus Tobias Snape to keep his father from hating him completely. It made him frown to think about, but he did his best not to let it show- he shouldn’t be getting distracted while Lily spoke, anyway. They had only just met, and his mom told him it was very rude to let his mind wander when people were talking to him. That he wouldn’t make any friends that way. But that was what he did- he liked to think. Like Lily seemed to like to talk.
When she finally gave him a moment, he offered a faint smile, awkwardly shifting on his feet as he tried to bring together the things he needed to respond to. This whole ‘talking to someone else’ thing wasn’t the norm for him. Was he doing it right? “Um…. Yeah… I guess I’m that Snape boy that lives on Spinner’s End… I mean… I do… live there… and I am a boy… I can’t imagine she would be talking about someone else… my name is Severus. Severus Snape…” He swallowed a knot that had formed in his throat, looking down at the ground to keep himself focused.
He just needed to make sure he didn’t mess things up.
“Um, no… I don’t go to public school… my mum teaches me….” He felt very nervous. Was it weird that he didn’t go to school like the normal kids? His father had said they couldn’t afford it, though his mother said she wanted him to have a magic education, not a muggle one and that was why he didn’t go to normal school. She taught him what he needed to know, and he read up on other stuff in his free time. He loved reading- it was fun. His mother said he was very bright, which he was always happy to hear. But was he bright when compared to normal kids? Hard to say.
He’d fallen silent again, and only sought to speak once more when she asked him her next question about magic. He offered her a faint smile at the thought, suddenly in his element again. This was what he knew and what he liked talking about: magic. Everything he was seemed to be connected to magic. For someone to be asking if it was even something to believe in… he couldn’t understand it. “I don’t need to believe in magic,” he said faintly, “do you believe in cats and dogs? Do you believe in this tree?” He gave the trunk of the tree he had indicated a light pat, grinning like a little dork. “Magic isn’t something to believe in, cause it’s real! As real as everything else.” He moved towards her, smiling still as he gave her a nod at her next question. Finally, it felt like he was having an actual conversation with someone!
“I can… I can use magic, just like you. And you know what? Lots of people can. There’s even a school for people like us to go to- a magic school where we get wands and get to use magic all the time! I know lots about it: my mom is a witch, too, just like you!”

--------------------------------I think I'm falling in love with you My heart is beating faster than I want it to--------------------------------- The nine year old girl grinned at him rather shyly. Her emerald green eyes were twinkling with delight. “My mummy said that lilies were her favorite type of flowers. I guess that’s one of the reason why she named me Lily. She has a whole bunch of them in her garden behind our backyard. Hey! Maybe you could come over and take a look at it!” Her eyes were alight with the idea. She couldn’t see why he could come over her house. As long as they stayed where her parents could see them. Meaning that they kept well clear of Lily’s room. Lily never did had a boy over at her house. The ones at school were ‘icky’ and scary looking. Adding to the fact that they had placed a bug in her hair once. She shook her head at the memory. “I’m sorry. Mum said that my mouth has a mind of its own. Sometimes I talk and talk I keep on forgetting.” She perked up as he said that his name was Severus. She could not help but to giggle at him. “You’re funny Severus. I like you. Will you be my friend?” It was amazing at how things took a turn, mostly for the better of the two. The sparkle in her eyes never seemed to have died out. On the contrary they seemed to have gotten brighter.
Lily frowned when he said that he didn’t go to the primary school. “It must be boring being at home all the time doesn’t it?” she asked him then. She could not even imagine being homeschooled. No wonder he didn’t look familiar. Lily would have known if she had seen him around the neighborhood. Now she knew why. “I rather like going to school. The teachers are really nice but the kids are mean. Well…some of them anyways.” There was a faint blush that was slowly growing on her cheeks as she stared at the ground. Her lips were locked tight and suddenly quiet. She kicked at a couple of rocks and watched them skipped across the park. She didn’t speak for several minutes trying to get her emotions under control. The kids at school thought that she was the teacher’s pet because she was always helping them out. She sighed softly before raising her head to look up at him, slowly getting back to her old self. The sparkle started to come back. They had started to talk about one of the reasons that Lily felt she wasn’t normal. Magic. She giggled at him again. “That’s cause the tree’s right there!” She started to become her bouncy self.
“How can magic be real?” She then asked him. “Is it like Merlin or Cinderella with the glass slipper?” She loved hearing those types of fairytales. Her eyes widen at his next words. “A school? I want to see this school before I go! Is it big?” There were a lot of questions that was running through her mind. A lot of questions that she wanted to ask him but couldn’t decide on which one. After sorting out a few she decided to settle on the most important one to her. “Will they accept everyone?” Her eyes got even wider, if that was possible at his next words. “Is your dad a witch to? Does he like magic? Can you do magic without a wand?” It was then that Lily decided to shut up. She quickly bit down on the inside of her cheeks. She could feel them turning pinker again like they were earlier. Calm down, a small voice in the back of her mind told her. Give him some time to answer your questions and you can ask. One by time. It seemed that the nine year old girl did listen to her thoughts. More often than not. She glanced at Severus and attempted a shy smile. A rather sheepish look was on her face. She shifted a little on her swing, anxious to get the answers. Lily was rather impatient and at the age where she wanted things now instead of later. After a stern lecture with her mother, the red haired girl was doing all she can to prevent herself from asking another question. [/blockquote] Tagged!? Sev! Words!? 709 Notes!?
